Posted: 9/26/2008 12:24:38 AM | | I attended a POF fishy feeding frenzy last month in Florida and was hugged walking into the venue. A really pleasant & magical surprise, It really loosened me up for the rest of the evening. Leaving I was hugged more than once & it was cosmic. A hug, embrace? Who knows?. Nothing can ever take the place of human to human physical contact. It's the ultimate communication..Sharing the energy & electricity of human touch puts smiles on both our faces & sends me to Shangri la. | |

Posted: 9/26/2008 9:44:26 PM | | I personally have no problem receiving hugs from either gender on a first meeting ,but keeping in mind we live in Canada,and the English part of it ,I don't offer them to people I don't know very well.Well actually I have ,you know how when some one gets really,really angry at you ,and their face turns red,and their eyes glare,and their yelling all sorts of really ,really bad things at you ,I offer a person like that a hug ,I really think he needs it. | |

Posted: 9/26/2008 10:27:09 PM | I don't like strangers that close in my personal space, of either gender. I'm extremely touchy/feeley and affectionate with my significant other, but even a bit reserved with close friends, and I don't want strangers touching me at all.
Being greeted with a hug from a complete stranger at a POF event would be an uncomfortable experience. | |

As expected, the lady guests were greeted with hugs or a handshake, the choice assessed by demeanor and acquaintance. It was pretty relaxed and casual and yes, it was all good.

In this culture most people are a bit tense about it. The chest to chest thing is too close for some people.
Perhaps a gentle squeeze from the side is more appropriate for some (definetely safer in all cases).
I have seen Persians demostrate deepest warmth and affection simply by looking into each others' eyes while holding each other by the arms/forearms.
Perhaps a gentle squeeze on the arm while being welcomed is the best aknowedgement a person can receive to feel wanted/connected.
