I'm guessing that's humor?
No. I was actually serious, which is why I asked you the questions.
It's okay not to take the questions seriously--but I wasn't trying to be funny. Often, people who feel inferior believe that they are being patronized, when they aren't.

| The Great Debate! Posted: 10/10/2008 10:43:13 AM | GEELEEBEE... Isn't it becoming more and more obvious how some people REALLY feel the closer we get to the election? I've noticed the closer we get to voting the pettier the attacks and criticism toward Obama become. This speaks volumes to the true feelings of those who support McCain. The more Obama talks about things that are TRULY important to even those who support McCain, the reaction goes STRAIGHT to something so insignificant and small its mind boggling. Stumbled across an article that had people criticizing his pronunciation of the word Pakistan. WHAT?! People are losing homes and business and all kinds of other crap and some are concerned about his pronunciation of the word Pakistan? Point is, the closer his becoming the first African American president becomes a reality the more those racist feelings start to surface.
JOHN MCCAIN does not have the capacity, intellect, temperament, character, resolve, patience, decision making qualities and GUTS to lead and run this country. I say guts because he was 1)too afraid to BUCK HIS OWN PARTY and pick Lieberman who he wanted as his running mate, but instead bowed to pressure from Limbaugh and his GOP handlers. 2). Didn't have the balls to bring up Ayers to Obama's face. I personally think he knew better give what Obama is ready to drop on him when he does. Obama and Biden even DARED him to bring it up in the next debate. Can you say John Singlaub? 3). Afraid to STICK BY HIS WORDS and not run a dirty campaign. Which as it turns out he's running the most filthiest and DANGEROUS campaigns we've seen in recent memory. And has NO shame about it.
And with every insult and attack his numbers drop more and more each day. GOBAMA! 08!

On one hand you seem to voice that it’s unfair to Obama for McCain to bring up Ayers Nope. What I said was ..... And his pitbull partner Failin Palin has done little more than try and drudge up some controversy regarding Ayers, which by most accounts, is not weighing heavily on the minds of voters right now, nor do they believe it to be a contentious matter, because similar remarks could be leveled against Mccains keating association or Palins church affiliations
which translates to.....neither issue is of grave concern. It's all in the comprehension. YOU may take issue with Ayers, and hope to substanciate a close relationship between he and Obama, but no one has has thusfar been able to produce said evidence. Their affiliation does not appear to be that of "chubby old friends".
To begin, I completely agree it’s less important than a real issue such as the economy, but just so we’re on the same page, lets make sure I have this straight… Religion is not an issue so long as it’s not related to the evangelical denomination. Affiliations with terrorists are not an issue, but relationships with estranged family members of terrorists are fair game. That seem like a fair representation of your position to you?
and according to your source they represented 2% of the Republican delegates L-E-S-S... actually, since you like splitting hairs. 47 would be 2%. But nevertheless, a noticeably low percentage. Sorry, but "Lily White" does seem to be an appropriate label for the republican party. Now, your arguement suggest this is solely a matter of choice for blacks, but I would say that the black people recognize there's little encouragement for them in the republican party. And, I repeat from an earlier post, MY EXPERIENCE..... my observations.....HAVE BEEN.... that a great number of REPUBLICANS exhibit very strong predjudicial attitudes, those I come in contact with in general, and some (including some closer than I care to admit) exhibit strong dislike for blacks. I take it from your response that you refuse my challenge to name any significant appointments of African Americans by Democrats. I have no doubt that in your experience you find your Republican friends to be more prejudicial than your Democratic friends, in my personal experience, and historically speaking; just the opposite is the rule, yours more the exception.
In the first one he would not look at Obama. In this one he offered him his left hand any one who knows why people do not shake with the left knows that is an insult. He shakes with his right so do not think it was an injury aviodence move. He wanted to insult Obama on the international stage. If he gave him the finger only American's would have got it. The left hand is an insult in most countries. If you’ve ever watched a politician work a crowded room, they shake with both hands… sheesh associating with known terrorists isn’t a character issue but a left-handed handshake gives you insight into a persons true character?!?!?!?!?
Being that bigoted lefty liberal I am, who does little more than sling mud all day long, a new brief I watched suggested MCCain actually tapped Obama on the shoulder, in order to get his attention, in order to shake Cindy's hand. In all fairness, (something I know democrats are not known for) it appeared plausible of an idea. I'd give MCCain the benefit of the doubt. I’m sure he’s appreciative of your grand gesture of accepting it may have been exactly as it seemed to nearly everyone else who watched it … nothing…

Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, cabinet members Robert Weaver and Patricia Roberts Harris; Andrew Brimmer, the first black Federal Reserve Board member; and Army Secretary Clifford Alexander, Ron Brown, Mike Espy, Vernon Jordan, Jocelyn Elders, Jesse Brown, Hazel O'Leary, Andrew Young, Hobart Taylor, to name a few. Wh-wh-what?!? rayzrsharp, you’re entitled to your opinion, but get real. Or if you truly believe this, then we should all be worried that you get to decide (vote). What great insight do you have that Obama has every one of these qualities that you deride McCain for not having?!? Yes, I do accept it that it is more likely that their relationship is more tenuous than tight because to conclude otherwise makes WILD assumptions with no basis in fact. Kinda like when people proclaim Bush altered intelligence data from numerous sources so that he could start a war for oil … that is along the lines of what you mean by “WILD assumptions with no basis in fact” isn’t it?
First of all, the "meet and greet" at Ayers' house was organized by Obama's predecessor in the legislature. It was HER party at a supporter's house to announce her stepping down and to introduce her successor. Obama's attendance was essentially the same invitation as the rest of the guests with the exception he HAD to attend.
It's a WILD assumption that Obama and Ayers sat around on the front porch drinking beer and reminiscing of the good old terrorist days and most likely and realistic that they didn't. Righttttt… because neighbors who share a common interest in political philosophies and work together in the same community action groups NEVER get together and discuss issues and stratedgy … it’s WAY more far fetched than altering intelligence data.
Several boards? Two. The Woods Fund and the Annenberg. They worked together but served in separate committees. In Obama's 6 years at Annenberg records show Ayers only attending 6 meetings and Obama was not involved with all of those. Both of those were involved in assisting those in poverty and providing education for minorities. As Palin rants about the domestic terrorist, she'd have to live to be 120 to come close to doing as much for good as Ayers has. For the record BTW, McCain's campaign bragged as recently as this week of his endorsement from the Annenberg's. Therefore if they endorsed McCain and created a foundation that had Bill Ayers serve, then using the logic being thrown around here... McCAIN PALS AROUND WITH TERRORISTS. Actually it is several, The Woods Foundation, The Annenberg Foundation, and prior to that, in his official capacity with Acorn’s Project Vote in 1992, he held position as General Counsel, afterwards becoming the Illinois Director. Since these are the only affiliations he acknowledges from that period, common sense dictates either he was more intimate with his neighbor, or he was not a community organizer since Ayers fingerprints are pretty much on everything Obama has reportedly done since he first left law school. As to Ayers contribution, I suppose it’s more a matter of what one defines as acceptable behavior, from my perspective, and I don’t care what he does today, he’s still a domestic terrorist no different than Timothy McVeigh, Ted Kaczynski, Eric Rudolph, or anyone who bombs an abortion clinic or testing laboratory.
I will give you this. There is a relationship even if by mere association. I don't say discount it completely. But this is why I even have anything to say on this matter at all. I hear all these assumptions and jumping to conclusions and I believe that to insist all of this garbage matters in my choice, show me two things. First, show me factual evidence rather than assumption that they are buddies and that they discuss the good old days of when they built bombs together and secondly, show me an opposing candidate that is so clean I can smell the soap when they walk by... if McCain and Palin walked past me now I wouldn't smell the Lifebuoy. I’m pretty sure you took the high road when it came to all the salacious allegations, speculation and innuendo Bush endured in (and since) 2004, I mean evenhandedness is not partisan, it’s a measure of character and integrity.

Would it kill you to actually look at facts? Ayers himself has deplored his own actions from the time he was a member of the Weathermen. He did not participate in the bombing of the U.S. Capital, the Pentagon and a State Department building--he was actually hiding at that time. In 1981, he turned himself in, and later charges against him were dropped.
How does Barack Obama know Bill Ayers? Ayers is a Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and founded the Small Schools Workshop and the Center for Youth and Society--through these institutions, Senator Barack Obama knows Professor Bill Ayers.
Seriously, do the research.

JOHN MCCAIN does not have the capacity, intellect, temperament, character, resolve, patience, decision making qualities and GUTS to lead and run this country.
I wouldn't go that far. I think he has the resolve and the guts. A year ago I would have credited him with the rest of the list as well, but after watching how he's managed his campaign I can't honestly say he's got much more than resolve and guts.
Obama, on the other hand, has continued to impress. Even now, when all the end-game mudslinging has erupted, his version of going negative is far less personal and demeaning than McCain's. I can't help but feel that if he's elected, that will be the end of negative attacks for the duration of his tenure, while McCain seems to be a loose cannon ready to go off in random directions at any time.
As I think of either in the Oval Office, I keep envisioning Obama saying "c'mon, everbody, we can do this together" and McCain saying "You'll do it my way or I'll kick your butt." Granted, we have an infatuation with butt-kickers in this country, but I believe strongly that Obama's approach would ultimately be more effective.
Now if we can just get voters to actually vote this time around - what irks me far more than those who cast their votes different from mine are the apathetic who just can't be bothered. Bush was elected in 2000 by 25 percent of the voting age public, the second time by 28 percent. The fact that we the people have voted with our feet in favor of 'who cares?" is why we so rarely have quality choices to pick from. Maybe all this economic turmoil will wake a few folks up. I sure hope so.

Affiliations with terrorists are not an issue, but relationships with estranged family members of terrorists are fair game. That seem like a fair representation of your position to you? Apparently your definition of "affiliation" differs widely from so many other posters on this thread, and religion is a personal matter. I find much contention and hypocrisy with many church goers I come in contact with here. But, it's their choice. In terms of how I view religion, and religious bodies, let me put it this way; there are scant few religious (as in organized) people I come in contact with (here in the deep south) who have more than a smidgen of spirituality in them. Somewhere, somehow, (again, here where I live) religious bodies and church organizations have been overrun with people who are looking for more of a fraternity house than a place of worship. It's become big business to many, a fraternity, much unlike the church community I knew when I was younger, and yes, I speak from experience. My family was heavily involved in the church when I was young; I H-A-V-E seen it change, just th same as I've seen republicans change from strictly business mentalities to those ushering in a new facad of do-gooders. It's been a convenient hijack. One source needed the other, IMHO's.
I’m sure he’s appreciative of your grand gesture of accepting it may have been exactly as it seemed to nearly everyone else who watched it … nothing… What hasn't been "nothing" is MCains overt hostility towards Obama, refusing to "look" or engage him in the first debate. Another fact about MCcAin is his demeanor, his counterfeit, simulated smile that he seems to always have, a very disingenuous appearance. His hostility seemed overwhelming, something he managed to restrain, but it's been clear, he's hostile, most especially towards Obama. His body language spoke louder than his words, his eyes flittered and twitched erratically, and several specialist in the field of behavioural science noted his anger.

| The Great Debate! Posted: 10/10/2008 5:57:37 PM | I wouldn't go that far. I think he has the resolve and the guts. I don't. I agree with Dance on this one; McCain has demonstrated his lack of either by not standing up for his own principles, convictions, and choices throughout this election. However, he has shown us how flaky he is, indecisive, unreliable, vindictive, unethical, and desperate.
I will give him this, though. I just saw a bit on CNN where some ignorant woman in Minnesota was speaking to McCain at a rally, saying she couldn't trust Obama because "he's an Arab." McCain immediately (and seemingly sincerely) shook his head, took the microphone away from the ignoramus, and told her that no, Obama is not an Arab. He's a decent family man with whom McCain has disagreements. Now, I didn't buy the last part of McCain's statement for one nanosecond, but I do respect that he at least corrected the woman about Obama not being an "Arab", even though I'm sure it was painful for McCain to do so. I'd bet he would have loved to let the woman think that...

JOHN MCCAIN does not have the capacity, intellect, temperament, character, resolve, patience, decision making qualities and GUTS to lead and run this country.
OKAY... let me amend my statement here... IN REGARDS TO THIS ELECTION, I state the following:
JOHN MCCAIN does not have the 1. TEMPERAMENT (mental control needed to stay calm under pressure. Evidence of how he's running his erratic campaign.) 2. CHARACTER ( has stooped to a NEW low in politics. BUT has redeemed himself A BIT when he stood up and said Obama was a decent family man and should be respected EVEN when the crowd booed. So, I have to back off a bit here, BUT he started this volatile atmosphere to begin with. Doing ANYTHING possible to get elected. Now, I THINK he realizes, he's gone to far.) 3. DECISION MAKING QUALITIES (again evidence on how he's running such a shitty campaign. He's all over the place in his scatter shot approach to trying to get elected. This ultimately shows that he didn't have a real plan.) 4. GUTS (again, I know some disagree but, he touts bucking his party line but went with the Palin pick PRESUMABLY because of a potential REVOLT on the floor of the GOP convention had he gone with his choice pick of Leiberman. )
So there. I've toned it down a bit. I was emotional when I wrote the first diatribe, but hey. I'll admit when I go to far. Lets see if my original list applies after the last ditch debate next week. If he decides to go nasty and bring up Ayers or Wright (which I suspect) maybe I'll be vindicated like Walt Monaham. LOL!
|
| The Great Debate! Posted: 10/10/2008 7:25:50 PM | You know, the more I think about McCain defending Obama at that rally today, the more I believe it's just the latest erratic turn in his campaign tactics. Another instance of throwing out whatever he can come up with in the hope that something will stick and he will be able to cut into Obama's lead. I don't believe he was truly sincere in his words, I think he's just saying whatever he thinks might help him turn the polls in his favor. I've lost all respect for the man...sad.
On another note, I saw a piece on TV last night talking about the Bradley effect. The pundit was saying it is very real and that Obama has to be 3%-5% ahead in the polls to be considered dead even. So whatever I'm seeing in the polls, I subtract 5 percentage points, and that's probably where we really are.
He needs to win by a landslide to compensate for both the Bradley effect as well as GOP efforts to steal the election.
On the other hand, the pundit also said she's seen instances of what could be perceived as a reverse Bradley effect ~ where white voters over performed on election day compared to polls that had been conducted; where more white voters voted for African American candidates than had been expected. I hope that's the case, but I'm looking at it from the other perspective, just in case.

| The Great Debate! Posted: 10/10/2008 7:58:12 PM | McCain has ONE saving grace that could work in his favor. I still believe he'll lose but at least he can go out with SOME dignity. He should change the attacks and focus on the economy the rest of the way out. Right now he's acting like a trapped animal. And its BACKFIRING BIG TIME! Especially with this Palin news. If I WERE MCCAIN, I'd stick to the important issues that MOST Americans are concerned with during the debate. But he can't. His stance and positions on all things important has been terrible, unfocused and vague. BTW what is his plan for this country? I know I can go to his site and look but the point is his PLAN for the country ISN'T on the forefront of the American mind. I'm certain VERY FEW could rattle off exactly what McCain wants to do if elected president outside of general talking points. Anyway, I believe we'll see an even BIGGER slide in the polls after the debate because he's PROMISED his base to bring up Ayers and Wright. Which is going to be the final nail before we vote. I am concerned about the Bradly affect to a degree. Evidence of the IGNORANCE at these MCKLAN-- McCAIN / PALIN rallies. But, I'm starting to believe that the number of ignorant backwards ass bigots has diminished enough to allow for the first African American president of the United States to take office. Man, I pray thats the case.
So McCain has a got a few weeks left to regain some type of dignity as we get ready to vote. We'll see.

He'll give it a day or two to see if it's taking hold and if it isn't, he'll change tactics yet again.
I think all he's managing to do is piss off his supporters...the numbers moving to Obama's camp seem to be increasing by the day.

I think maybe YOU need to do some research.On09/11/2001,William Ayers stated"Do I regret what WE did? No.I think we didn't do enough" When exiting the court when he was found not guilty he stated "Guilty as hell ,Found innocent,God I love this country!" Why was he found innocent? Much of the evidence against him was found to be inadmissable because the FBI didn't get all the court orders it needed for the tapes they recorded.Ayers has admitted to involvement in planning the bombings you claim he had nothing to do with.Who is right Ayers or you? As for how Obama knows Ayers? You must truly be naive.I pick that word because it is the most generous term I could come up with.
First of all let me preface my comments by saying I'm amazed Ayers didn't do a prison bid for his involvement but according to Ayers his comments are taken incorrectly.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/in-a-not-remote.html
"When I say, 'We didn't do enough,' a lot of people rush to think, 'That must mean, "We didn't bomb enough s---."' But that's not the point at all. It's not a tactical statement, it's an obvious political and ethical statement. In this context, 'we' means 'everyone.'
Let us be totally clear. Obama's connection with Ayers has only but a microfraction of importance and impact in the daily lives of America. We've been harmed far greater by The Patriot Act and Domestic Terrorism bills that are going to continue to rip our country apart from the inside out.
I wish I was hearing something from ANY candidate that was so profoundly brilliant that I new this country was on its way back but all i'm hearing is bandaids for deep wounds.

Gleebee is is hopeless to explain this over and over to those who choose not to listen. When the other side cries for Obama to come clean it really means for him to support what they choose to believe about him. He has come out and said what his affiliation is/was with Ayers, but this isn't good enough for the dooms days supporters. They think he is guilty by association and they will not be satisfied at any other explanation of the situation. Let's save our breath and move on to other subjects and ignore the Ayers subject whenever it's posted on this forum. | The Great Debate! Posted: 10/11/2008 7:11:07 PM | Did you read the book? You might need to because then you might know the timeline a little better. Like most Obama apologist you entirely miss the point.Knowing and associating with Ayers is not as bad as the misleading answers he has given when questioned. When a man gets a $55,000,000.00 grant and someone leads you to him to be on the board that manages it and you have meetings with him and then you serve on the board of another foundation with him and then someone asks you about him and you say that he's just a guy in your neighborhood. Is that being 100% honest?I don't have as much of a problem with him knowing Ayers as the fact that Obama LIED as to how he knew him. Ayers is just one of many people that he knew for an extended time that he keeps saying he didn't know they were doing the things that they were doing. Either Obama is a LIAR or he is the blindest person to come out of Chicago.I can't vote for another idiot or bald faced liar. As for any name that you might want to call me,None of them concern me because they would just prove my point about the subject.
You have one perspective, I have another. I am not an 'Obama apologist'. Ayers is a non-issue, and a distraction. See--it worked; now you're all distracted by Bill Ayers and Obama, and you're taking your eye off of real issues. The economy...taxes...energy...healthcare...

I need one of them nobel prize winning econmist ~ to explain that to me!~ Just exactly how is that suppose to work? ~
And the GOP has the nerve to offer us a Campaign Slogan"Country First"
I think Country and a Chosen Few ~ has been "first" at everything ~ of some 8 years now! and look what it done for us! ~~ I assure you ~ there's no "village idiot" here.
BUT~~ IT'S True ! ~ there some "Village Idiots" among us!
Bunch of them!
I'm Watch & Listen for them ~ everyday!

Eloquently put, too.
Once again, Dance, you take my words

There "IS" a bunch of idiots among us, and they've had control of our Country for many years. They've turned course and run a strong moving ship straight aground; ironically, many seem to be pushing still, as if the ship hasn't been grounded enough already. They're obviously among those that are profiteers in the brainwashing currently being doled out. The only recourse we people have is to take control of our ship.
The mass majority, those 59 some million who supported Bush, are quitely debating their options while they watch their retirement dwindle into nothingness. Surely, somewhere in that midst, there's a twinkle of light that tells them there's a better way, uncharted waters, and a new captain at the helm (albeit half-black) who has a better vision for where we set course.

| The Great Debate! Posted: 10/12/2008 5:40:03 PM | Mane...tsk.
You had me until
(albeit half-black) Now why did you have to go there? *slap*
I saw Hillary today stumping for Obama in Pennsylvania and although I was not one of her supporters, I really liked a few things she said today:
"It took a Democrat to clean up after the first President Bush and it's going to take a Democrat to clean up after this President Bush."
"We will rise from the ashes of the Bushes."
She said lots of other really good things too but those were two that really stood out. It was an inspirational speech.
So...how many of you think McCain will "take the gloves off" in the Debate coming up on Wednesday? Me...I think he's going to try and take the high road. Question is, will he be better able to hide his contempt and disrespect for Obama this time?
