oh yeah...I forgot, the democrats have done a great job here in Michigan the last four years...gold paved streets for all of us!
What do you have against Palin...the fact that she's a woman? Shes so new there's not much to know about her yet.

Nope nothing about her being a woman. I believe in stem cells and the right to choose. I mean the right to life people have that choice but they want to ban that same right to choose?

But I seriously doubt I would want Palin representing us internationally. She just doesn't seem to have her act together. I say the same thing about McCain. In general the democrats act professionally and presidential while McCain and Palin do not.

Now mind you I have voted republican for many years, not the last Bush term but many years. So I am not a democrat at heart.

Robin, you are right, I should not have said movie. I should have said documentary which it is. The film basically paints a picture of the true power in this country being the Central Bank. Other names that have been used are Tri-lateral Commission, Illuminati, and the Bilderburg Group. They are ultra rich people who use their power and money to control events around the world. They are committed to bringing about a One World Government. Their biggest strength is that few people believe they really exist, even though one of their numbers, David Rockefeller has admitted they do. I had heard stories over the years but never paid too much attention until the 2000 election when I watched George W. giving his acceptance speech while Florida had not been called yet. I would recommend everyone seeing "Zeitgeist".

Fact is, you can’t point your finger to only one side of the aisle and blame them for screwing this country up. It was a bipartisan with both parties having their hand is creating this mess.

RD-another good documentary is The Fog of War Documentary about Secretary of Defense Robert Mcnamara. You can find it on Google video a lot quicker than finding it in a store.

Doesn't change my vote...He wasn't my first choice, but right now, he's the only choice.

There are some good posters on this thread, and I do not believe they are trying to change your vote. The good ones are responding to posts with facts that support it, or refute it. The bad ones just make comments without sources or fact to back them up.

As I've said before, how one votes is their choice. If you only vote Republican, that's your right. If you only vote for candidates that are against abortions, that's your right. What I can't respect is when one cites distorted views, or lies, about the opponent to support their vote. Just be honest about why you are voting the way you are, if it's because of their views, or race, or sex, or party affiliation - just own it. (BTW - the use of 'you' is in the generic sense, not toward any poster)

Tony, "OK, so how did all those regulations get removed?"

Tony, they weren't removed. They were never in place. Both Mr.s Bush and McCain warned again the minimal regulations which were in place, but to no avail. FMAC and FMAE were creations of the dems, a noble(?) cause which went south, and were watched over by the dems since the Carter years. Janet Reno, Mr. Clinton's attorney general, threatened banks with litigation and loss of flexibility if they failed to adhere to this flawed policy. Senator Obama's name, according to the National Review, was one of "Plantifff's name" on a piece of litigation against Citi Bank of Illinois for practicing, in my opinion, proper banking policy rather than caving to the dem's highly flawed program.

"So if they wanted regualtions why didn't they get them?"

Why weren't regulations placed when the republicans controled congress? GREED.
Democrates were not going to allow chains placed upon their Frankenstein monster. It has beeen shown to be a Golden Goose for them and apparently some on the other side of the isle. Also, Barney Frank, a high ranking dem, played the race card as the bulk of these loans were administered to minorities.

"So you are saying that the democrats controlled everything yet some how being the minority?"

Nope, I'm not saying that at all. They had great filibuster power though, as proven by the great many minority judges who President Bush nominated in his first term but were shot down by the dem's. But I'll stay on target and not bring that to the fore.

"So McCain has fought and Obama has not? How? Is it in anyway that matters?"

It matters in the fact that he is not in LOCK-STEP with any particular party and so he more readily can move across the isle for support of his programs. Programs which are for the betterment of WE THE PEOPLE. Senator Obama has indicated that he would, indeed, move across the isle but has yet to do so. This is his history. SenatorMcCain has a history of doing so, much to the dissapointment of the republican party.

Tony, thanks for allowing me the opportunity to clarify some of my thoughts. Candidly, I don't have a ton of facts as I'm not a computer wizzzzz, as shown by the fact that I've yet to master putting quotes in that little highlighted box. LOL I've all I can manage just to turn this flamin' computer on. However, I do have a memory.

You speak of the Community Reinvestment Act that was put in place to address discriminatory lending practises and redlining. It only effects financial institutions that are covered by FDIC insurance. Government way of saying if you are going to participate in a government back program (FDC) then you better not practise discriminatory policies. Sounds like a good idea, depends on how well the policy is constructed and implemented on whether it will be good in practise.

Why weren't regulations placed when the republicans controlled congress? GREED.

The CRA does have regulations and even allows community groups to participate n the enforcement. I can't speak to the republicans motivation.

The CRA was changed under Clinton's administration and this has lead to much of the problems we are seeing today. Phil Gramm wanted to allow banks to expand into investment, insurance, and commercial banking, while allowing more banks to get out of having to adhere to CRA. Gramm had the votes and could withstand a veto, so it became law.

Tony, they weren't removed. They were never in place. Both Mr.s Bush and McCain warned again the minimal regulations which were in place, but to no avail.

There were regulations in the CRA. It's up to the regulatory agencies to enforce them. Under bush, regulatory enforcement was not a good thing. Regulatory agencies (EPA, Mining, Banking, etc) were diluted under bus, by placing people in power that worked for the companies that they were to regulate (fox guarding the hen house).

Sub-prime loan is what got us into this mess , and the worse of the worse are 'security backed mortgages'. A big part of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac downfall were these 'security backed mortgages', the bush administration pushed them to accept them to meet their CRA obligations. I can not say what the bush administrations motivation was, but it was an unwise decision.

Senator McCain has a history of doing so, much to the disappointment of the republican party.

I keep reading, and hearing, this rhetoric, but it is not supported. It's like "if you say a lie enough it will become true". McCain voted 89% with bush and 95% in 2007. The 95% is important as it showed he was willing to kowtow to the conservative republicans to get the nomination for president.

If that's the only grammatical, or spelling, flaw in my post, I can accept that. I would worry more if it was a misstatement or bad fact or bad logic that bothered you.

I am one flawed individual, that's for sure.

flawedbutfun,

"If Bush and McCain (i.e. the GOP) were serious about it they could have done it..." re firmer controls on FMAC and FMAE, "as they controled the White House and the Congress. Me thinks they were not serious about it. "

I would disagree. Dems, of course, were against regulating their own created Golden Goose, as were some republicans who also accepted money from these two organizations. Also Barney Frank, a high ranking dem, brought up the race card and, unfortunately, this card seems to trump any other.

In regards to your statements about Senator McCain in 1995 and 2008. I would have to admit that I am not surprised. In my opinion if we have a free market system which has served us well for over two centuries, and in my opinion is the standard for theworld, why regulate it? Unfortunately, government intervention into the mortgage industry mandated that banks and morgage industries use poor banking practices. At that point, it was no longer a free market.

A flip-flopper? Personally, I've never put a great deal of interest in a flip-flopper title.
Who, of us, have never changed our mind when presented with more information which proves our original position not has positive as we've once thought.

"Let's look at actions and not rhetoric, McCain vote with Bush 95% of the time. Now that's Mavericky of him, quite the agent of change."

So, he's voted against Bush 5% of the time. And I know it's quite popular to hate Bush at this time, but not all of his programs were flawed. And as I mentioned to Tony above, he is not in lock step with Bush. He has a history of going against his party and voting for or sponsoring bills which are, in his opinion, to the betterment of his/our country. I'm not aware of Senator Obama's break from his liberal, democratic friends in the political system. In fact, as I mentioned in a previous post, Senator Obama had a great opportunity, in my opinion, to effect change in the corrupt Chicago arena and failed to do so. That's his history.

In regards to your position on Palin:
She's anti-abortion. Those who are pro-abortion always indicate that they are pro-choice. Okay then, why are they upset that Gov. Palin chose life for her child. "It's her body. It's her choice." Right?

Stem cell research. It seems to me that stem cell research has not been outlawed. It continues this day. I could be wrong and, gosh, that's never happend before. LOL
But, I believe Gov. Palin is against embryo stem cell research. So, let's create a life so that we may kill it and harvest that which we desire. Spooky..... And if I'm correct, embryo stem cell research was not outlawed, only the government funding of it.

Regarding the removal of those who do not agree with her, there are those who serve at the "pleasure"of the governor. If you are planning a party, running a business, or managing a state, you would obviously want to surround yourself with those who believe as you do. Makes sense to me.

The librarian was retained as it was shown that the public favored her over others. Wow a public official, the mayor, listening to the voice of the people. Gosh what a refreshing idea.

The Chief of Police and a public safety commissioner: I'm not aware of the situation regarding the Chief of Police, but I would assume you're referring to that which has been called "Trooper-Gate." I know the "official" reason for the dismissal of the public saftey commissioner, but let's face it. If a state trooper tazered(sp) your or your neighbor's 10 year old son, I would bet that 90% would call for his head. This trooper should not only have been fired but charged with assault as well.

OH,OH..... Just been called on a run by my company, gotta go. But I'll close with the following.

Unqualified? Yes, agreed, there are more experienced candidates available, but do they have a history of reform. Annnnnd, there are those who would put an even LESS QUALIFIED person into the white house.

Racial issues? I'm sorry I just can't leave without addressing that. Candidly it's bull-shiviky, to believe that mine as well as most votes against Mr. Obama are racially motivated. Afterall, there are just so many issues about him not to like , but my time is closing.

Hey, thanks for taking a look. I hope that whom ever may become president that they are the very best president in the history of the world. We really need it at this point in time. The truck awaitith..... Please forgive any misspelling or dropped thoughts. No time for editing.

Just one man's humble opinion.

Too many things to respond to, I will just address a few so I can keep this post short ad get back to work.

In regards to your position on Palin:
She's anti-abortion. Those who are pro-abortion always indicate that they are pro-choice. Okay then, why are they upset that Gov. Palin chose life for her child. "It's her body. It's her choice." Right?

Who is upset about Plain's choice, I've never heard anyone say that. That is a 'strawman' argument.

Sounds like you are Pro-Choice, allowing a woman to choose. We can agree on that point. I am against politicians who through laws, or Supreme Court appointees, limit the woman's choice.

Stem Cell research

Complex issue, that requires lots of background information before addressing. Too much for this post (i.e. difference between embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells, how each is harvested, tissue cloning, organ cloning, etc.)

What I support is government money in Stem Cell research (embryonic and adult) to work on cures for diabetes, alzheimer's, etc. Private sector dollars pale in comparison to government research dollars. If the government does not support a broader Stem Cell based research we will continue to fall behind other countries in medical advancements. It's already happening. In this case you could say government regulation is hurting America (weird that the Republican party is on the opposite side on a regulation issue LOL).

Racial issues? I'm sorry I just can't leave without addressing that. Candidly it's bull-shiviky, to believe that mine as well as most votes against Mr. Obama are racially motivated. Afterall, there are just so many issues about him not to like , but my time is closing.

As a follow up poster already said about my comment on race. I am referring to what is known as the 'Bradley Effect'. It's been shown that people tell pollster they are voting for a candidate or for a proposition and then vote the other way. There has been must talk about this happening in this election. No one ever said 'most' votes against Mr Obama, usually it's estimated at 4-6%.

Really no regulations. And the republicans believe in regulations? Ok, I just don't see that as a fact. So how did the airline industry get unregulated, how is it that even McCain said he wants less regulation before of course the meltdown.

So now it's bipartisan and everyone wants deregulation, so then everyone believes in less government too?

Well I guess everyone can believe what they want. The facts just speak for themselves.

Well everyone has their own opinions.

But in the long run, I as a republican have been waiting for a long time for McCain to state his economic policy. But lets look at the facts:

He wants to tax your healthcare! Um, nope that's not good. This fact while not on his website is reported by all media. Why does he hide this fact then?

The economy, nope, nada nutin honey. What does it say? Remove gas tas for a summer, do something (who knows what) about the value of the dollar and send a strong msg to other countries......

Um how does this help anyone in the middle class? or the country?

Go to his website, this is what it says, or do I have to copy and paste it?

John McCain's policies will increase the value of the dollar and thus reduce the price of oil.

John McCain believes we should send a strong message to world markets.

So this is his plan?

All I know is that we probably can't trust either of them but at least Obama appears to have something that has a little meat and potatoes to it.

The Obama site has tons of detail, not like McCains that has no substance at all.

Enact windfall profits tax and give it back to the people. (Hmm, so big oil might finally be accountable!)

Fight for fair trade.... Can you even argue this?

End tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas. IT'S ABOUT TIME!

Please google cost accounting. You don’t have to be a financial wizard to understand indirect expenses and overhead (administrative, electricity, heat, taxes). As I highly doubt OPEC or our own oil companies use different accounting methods than what is standard, WE will pay for his windfall profit tax with a higher costing product.

It’s not hidden and please check out both of candidates plans on factcheck.org
If you have the time and energy, go to govtrack.us and pick a year and chose weather you want to see enacted or introduced or a multitude of other statuses of a bill. Then look to see what they’re about, who introduced them, and if they have been enacted, how each party voted.
I have yet to see an unbiased media when it comes to politicians, they either lean left or right and will shine the light of good of their chosen candidate

And that would mean higher profits so then again we would get it back from more windfall taxes.

In the long run it's a check to make sure the companies are not gouching us.

Factcheck.org is not McCains site. So it's a hidden tax by McCain. I have checked out factcheck.org and it seem Obama tells the truth much more than McCain, which makes me lean toward Obama even more.

And how does either candidate plan to keep OPEC in check? How much of our oil is from them? Nail them with a profit tax and end up in a vicious cycle of rising gas price? Or have them stop supplying America? How much oil are we producing domestically? Is it enough? If not then we’d get into a cycle where demand is great than the supply. Again….rising gas prices.

How much of that 'profit tax' would be returned to the consumers? How much would the Government keep?

Alternative energy. That would go a long way!

I never can understand why we don't push E85 (15% gasoline and 85% ethanol). It cuts 85% of our oil demand for cars, trucks, and machinery. If the government provided tax write-offs to convert our vehicles, and offered ethanol production tax subsidies for 5-10 years , individuals and companies would put the investments to switch over, we could become energy self sufficient.

I am sure research would figure out what is the best renewalable crop to supply all the ethanol we need (may not be corn), improve the mileage, etc. The infrastructure is already in place (gas stations, distribution pipelines, etc) so it wouldn't require major change.

hybrid automobiles are deductable beginning with the 2007 tax year...so we already get a kickback if we choose to buy a car that can go 250 miles on an 8 hour 120V charge...taxes will go up, as they always do...one way or another...maybe a bunch of believers out there voted "yea" on the 6% sales tax...property taxes are higher every year, that was the great trade we got

Those phony "flex fuel" beasts that GM puts out get tax incentives as well as hybrid gas-electric vehicles in the 4000 lb range with a high air resistance profile.

My 2003 Civic Hybrid has a theoretical range of 650 miles on one 13.2 gallon tank, and I typically get about 620 miles per tank. Hybrids do not plug in, at least not without aftermarket modifications.

Ethanol is a big subsidized slab of pork to pay off the agribusiness lobby. CNG shows some promise, but in the Western US it must compete with electricity production and CNG vehicles have limited driving range due to the weight and bulk of the tanks required.
