| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/9/2008 10:16:09 PM | Well, here's another man posting.
Although I didn't grow-up in a household that condoned it, I said it oftened.
Thank God I did. Most of my family (including extended family - 90%) have passed, but I know they were never in doubt how I felt about them.
It was odd when I was young and bucking the order, but now, looking back, I'm glad I did.
As far as romantic situations, I say it often when I feel it. However, I never say it until I'm sure.
Hope that makes sense.
We're (men) not oggers, ya know!
So to answer how many times I've said, " I love you?"
Very, very often.
And I'm not even gay! Go figure! LOL

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/9/2008 10:53:02 PM | "Nothing worse than hearing, "I love you???" asked as a question. That's got to be the worst. ...NO...the worst is when you say, " I love you"....and you feel the deafening silence as the words hang in the air."
Both are bad...but the worst is wanting to say "I love you" to ears that are no longer able to hear.
And hey Levi! | |

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/10/2008 4:28:07 AM | | No, I say I love you because it's who I am, not because of or in spite of my upbringing. I say what I feel and feel what I say. Simple. | |

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/10/2008 7:57:20 AM | | Loving and saying I love my family goes without say... They are the center core of my life. I let them know that I love them everyday. But I don't like to use the word with others , unless it comes from my heart. I feel that this is something that one earns, and something to be honored to have ( it is a gift to be given) , and should be cherished. | |

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/10/2008 12:30:16 PM | Why is it that some people think they should get an award for saying "I love you", but a few times? Yeah, I'm guilty of saying it too much...but what does it hurt? It makes someone else feel better, as well as myself...and if I say it, I mean it and it means I'll give it my all.
Why be 'stingy' with love?...especially at OUR ages. I've never regretted telling someone that I loved them. I'd rather say it and have no regrets.....than to NOT say it, and if something happens to them, having a hard time forgiving myself. The ones I've said it to, and the relationship didn't work out....well, it's not like it ever came back to haunt me...and even then, I never regretted that I told them how I felt at the time. The heart is a HUGE organ.....and it holds lots of love.
Like the saying goes....
"A bell's not a bell 'til you ring it - A song's not a song 'til you sing it - Love in your heart wasn't put there to stay - Love isn't love 'til you give it away!" - Oscar Hammerstein

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/10/2008 12:59:10 PM | Gosh, I hope by now *millions of times*!!
You can play the game and you can act out the part Though you know it wasn't written for you But tell me, how can you stand there with your broken heart Ashamed of playing the fool One thing can lead to another; it doesn't take any sacrifice Oh, father and mother, sister and brother If it feels nice, don't think twice
Just shower the people you love with love Show them the way that you feel Things are gonna work out fine if you only will Shower the people you love with love Show them the way you feel Things are gonna be much better if you only will
You can run but you cannot hide This is widely known And what you plan to do with your foolish pride When you're all by yourself alone Once you tell somebody the way that you feel You can feel it beginning to ease I think its true what they say about the squeaky wheel Always getting the grease.
Better to shower the people you love with love Show them the way that you feel Things are gonna be just fine if you only will Shower the people you love with love Show them the way that you feel Things are gonna be much better if you only will
Shower the people you love with love Show them the way that you feel
You'll feel better right away Don't take much to do Sell you pride They say in every life They say the rain must fall Just like pouring rain Make it rain Make it rain Love, love, love is sunshine. Oh yes Make it rain Love, love, love is sunshine Yeah, all right Everybody, everybody Shower the people you love with love

When I say that to my cat - he either bites me or - gives me that "eat chit and die" look and walks off.

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/10/2008 6:02:56 PM | To family it's easy....
To someone else its somewhat more complicated....
I believe that it depends on your definition of LOVE..
To me, love means "someone or something you are willing to die for"...
I only ever met one woman in my life that I could say that about. But thats another story...

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/11/2008 9:28:34 AM | It used to be really tough. had great parents but both were ACOA and children of the depression. feelings were not easy for them, especially dad. I worked on it, realized that my lack of ability to express feelings made me less of a man, not a macho sort like i used to think. now, with time, its easier. i say it to my kids all the time and they get hugged too no matter how much it might embarass them in front of their friends. (actually my son now is a hugger as well and feels no problem expressing his warm feelings, thank god). saying i love you to a female partner is something i hope to do again some day, but i will not say it unless i mean it. words like i love you are meant to strengthen us in hard times and if said too casually they can lead to hurt feelings, discouragement and all sorts of bad things. | |

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/11/2008 8:44:58 PM | In our family, there is a story that has been passed down for several generations.
In some distant past a woman in our family married. She and her new husband had been married for less than a month. They had a quarrel. As he climbed up onto his horse to go to work, she shouted "I hope that animal throws you and kicks you in the head". Later in the day the horse showed up at a neighbors house riderless. They recognized the horse and took it home. Several of the male neighbors went looking for the young man. They found him dead after having been thrown by the horse. Something must have startled the horse. He was thrown and hit his head on a rock.
We always say "I love you" to anyone who matters to us as they leave our presence.
You just never know. | |

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/11/2008 8:58:12 PM | Yikes.. I get the drift of your story... But it's scarey.
It's like having a war, for peace, Or screwing for virginity.
I think I just got the shivers. I'm gonna go call some people!

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/12/2008 5:02:36 AM | I think it's one of the three things you should never be too slow or stingy in saying, I love you, thank you and I'm sorry.
It was rarely said when I was growing up.. I wonder if I broke my parents in?
I love saying I love you - seriously, affectionately, jokingly (as in someone cracks me up laughing and I say 'god I love you'), sexily, to whoever has elicited those feeling in me. I even say it to my car... after all she carries me off on awesome adventures, so far has brought me home safely... if she gets me out of a road I probably shouldn't have gone down then I say both thank you, and god I love you!
This came up in a completely different arena once.. oh that was right it was about saying Sorry.. and a person said if you said it too many times it lost its meaning.
I suggested that if you meant it, it could never lose its meaning.

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/12/2008 8:22:35 AM | My upbringing sucked big time when it came to affection and love. The word love was never mentioned and hugs were very rare. Now I have my own little Family and I get to make it right, the way I would have wanted it while growing up. I hug my boys just because I know when they`ve had a rough day and I tell them that I love them every day. My boys are 16 and 20 years old and sometimes I just send a txt during the day to let them know that I am thinking about them and that I love them. When it comes to men in my Life I say it when I really feel it . | |

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/12/2008 9:33:29 AM | I tell most family members , all the time, I love them. Usually in parting, I tell them. It is just my way of saying good bye until next time, I see them. You never know, what is going to happen in life, and I want all of them to know I love and appreciate them, when we part.
As far as a partner, someone I am in a relationship with, I do not say it very easily for the first time. I always make very certain that the feelings are real before they are verbalized. So I take an extra long time, letting them know , what my heart is feeling. But in an established relationship, where we both feel the same, I say it often enough to not abuse it. I think it is important to let the other person know that your feelings have not diminished or changed.
Too many throw the word around when they aren't sure, or aren't feeling them, and people get hurt. Even by this ripe old age, I have said the "L" word to a very few, only when it is true.

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/12/2008 5:06:02 PM | Many, many times. But only when it was true.
Since I have had the good fortune to have years with people in our home to say it to daily it was perhaps a bit easier than for some.

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/12/2008 11:38:59 PM | Here, here Rossal.
My late husband was not the type to say things like that, however the last words he said to me before his accident were "I love You" and although I knew in my heart that he did love me, I cherish those 3 words like never before.
No regrets here. I love you too honey.

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/13/2008 12:03:24 AM | | I have no idea the number of times, but I can name each individual that I have said it to. They are not just words to be taken lightly. Everytime I say them they come from the heart. They are like the NA term "miataki" which loosely translated means "you are now a piece of my heart". | |

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/13/2008 6:50:38 AM | I tell my close friends that I love them every time I speak to them.
My sister hears those words from me each and every day.
The people I am close to in my volunteering and at my church hear them every time we are together.
I have only said them to 4 men with whom I was romantically involved. After having my sentiment laughingly tossed back at me in a very hurtful fashion by the first man, it was many years before I trusted enough to say them again to a man.
I will probaby say the words, meaningfully, many more times in my life.

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/13/2008 3:27:04 PM | Sadly, my father never said those words to any of his children. He showed us in his own way...teaching us about the stars and the constellations, and how to ride a bike, taking us fishing, and disciplining us when we needed it. As we got older the only time he interacted with us was when he disciplined us. When our mother's illness became terminal, he hid away from the impending loss by becoming a workaholic. I often wonder if he ever regretted that decision.
I will not miss another opportunity to tell those important to me just how much they matter in my life.

| How Many Times Have You Said I Love You? Posted: 10/13/2008 6:26:55 PM | You've got it right, Pig.....lol Maybe add unconditional in there as well
Personally, I've written about love, listened to song and read story about love and based on all of those 3rd party versions of love, my personal experiences of love just don't seem to stack up.
With respect to a significant other, maybe I'm too hard on myself and I should realize that outward expressions of love can only be as sincere and free flowing when you understand, respect and love yourself....and if I find someone who can help me get there, then I guess I will tell them so.
