Well there's certainly mixed views on Christmas. It does make me cackle when people say they love Christmas, yet not the religious side, hmmm isn't that what it's "meant" to be about?

Geenz, I'll join ya, lets go to the beach and eat fish n chips!

Its what its all about if you are religious I guess. If you arent its just a beautiful time to spend with loved ones. Sorry didnt realise not being devout should prevent someone from enjoying the special family times xmas provides.

My bad.

the carol singers door knocking chucking buckets of water on them if they were off key...:)

Some years back we started the desparate's xmas... sounds terrible but what it means is that people can do the family thing at lunchtime and then come together for a sort of anti xmas for tea/supper. You must buy a present of about $5 max that is so terrible that who ever draws it out of the box is obliged to swap for something else. That is the funniest part... there is some really awful garbage out there in the world. Attendees must also bring a plate and a bottle and must dance . dreadful music is also encouraged.

Family xmas's are not always enjoyable but they have become a lot more enjoyable since I have known that in a short time I'd be letting my hair down with a collective of misfits!!

Is it Christmas yet.Its the time i look forward to a rest.Spending time with family and friends.Catching up with ol friends that i see at that time of year.

Putting up the Chrissy tree, stopping the cat from climbing it.
Stringing the lights on the tree, stopping the cat from playing tug o war with them.
Hanging the decies on the tree, putting them back up after the cat takes em down.
Setting up the train around the tree, stopping the cat knock it over all the time.
Sticking a branch up santa's bum so he can adorn the top of the tree, cat free this bit.
Turning on the lights on the tree and going ahh, while the tree wobbles as the cat finally makes it's move on santa.
Wrapping the pressies for under the tree, while the cat tries her best to unwrap them.
Trying to find out where i left my beer only to discover i wrapped that too,the cat did it
Having three different ways of spelling my name and two nicnames so i can wrap a lot of pressies for myself,ok the cat gets some too.

Christmas,i forget about the commercialism(spelling) or the religion. Its my time to show every one my unique pressy wrapping style and share a beautifull time of the year with people whom i care about.

Finding out what loot santa's got for me.

Geez, careful you lot or you might get a visit from three ghosts on Christmas Eve. What a bunch of wet blankets! You won't take my rose coloured glasses off - so there . I bet you guys lie in wait for the Easter Bunny with a double-barrel shotgun, you probably even block up the chimney so Santa gets stuck. Wait, was that you guys I saw stringing out nets to try and stop the tooth fairy?

Serve up the roast, hand out the useless pressies, bring on the rellies, flies, heat, booze, false sentiments and expensive crap. I LOVE IT!!!!!!

In theory, Christmas is good.. I get a forced week off work.

And then the bad stuff starts..
- Shopping centre car parks - just to get my normal groceries - not actually any Christmas presents (I normally try to be organised before the big pre-Xmas rush - and mainly so I don't have to go shopping) [and yes I am female - just not a fan of shopping]
- The family fights: firstly about where we are having Christmas and then the tension on the actual celebration - can't really determin why - just turns out that way and has always been like that. Last year we even invited another family along to try and lesson the stress but they ended up getting caught up for whatever reason and didn't make it so that didn't work either.

But watching my nieces open their presents (and often discard them for the next best one) is kind of "magical" - makes you remember how fun it used to be.. I guess we do it all for them. But it isn't all bad.. it is nice to catch up with my whole family - at least for the first 30mins - even though we all live in Brisbane, we don't get to see each other very often..

I would rather work on Christmas..

Geenz, I'll join ya, lets go to the beach and eat fish n chips
I'm sure 3 wont be a crowd.
Before we run away for the day,I have to get the pre xmas thing done which I really love.
Putting the xmas tree up with my daughter,ya get it out of the box,and think to yourself,Geez ,it only seems like last week I put you away for another year.
Getting all the lights right, then trying to evenly place the decorations around the tree, the floor decorated with more tinsel than the tree,Think, gotta do that next year, buy some new tinsel thats not nannas old stuff, but that would be getting rid of to many beautifull memories.
My sis in Canada always sends us a xmas decoration for the tree, gotta find the right place for the white moose's and the pretty maple leaves.
Thats our piece of white xmas.I can sit back and check out Dees ,Canadien decorations and send her a happy xmas from Australia in my mind.
Then the suns setting in the west, run out the front yard and check out our xmas tree and lights from the roadside.
That looks like a xmas tree well done Now its time to think about fish n chips on the beach

You can't beat a White Xmas...cause its part of Xmas....it makes Xmas...and I think thats why people in Australia have a bit of a neg attitude..

I think it depends on where you grew up, I've been in Australia since I was 4, so when the weather gets really hot it starts to feel like Christmas for me.

I'm not sure why a lot of people are negative about Christmas, but I do have a solution;
If you don't like, just don't do it. If you don't like spending all your money on pressies then don't, just send a card, if you hate fighting with the relies on Christmas, then don't invite them. It's not that hard.

I love Christmas, I love the presents, I love eating and drinking with family and friends...Hell I even love the cake that the kids Mum makes every year.

I remembered something I didn't like about last Christmas. The chair I was sitting on broke and I fell on the ground - very undignified. Let that be a lesson to you kiddies - don't have two helpings of Christmas dinner

I got run over by Santa.... I was 4. Crossing the road and he was comin along in his car to dressed as Santa too I have to add...going to the firestation to give us all our pressies..( dad was a firey.. back in the day) .
All I really remember clearly is the car hitting me and my uncle colin holding me, being so so excited at santa coming, I remember seeing his suit but wondered where his beard went to!
So on hearing he was on his way I just ran out across the road to the river verge where he would ride at the back of the fire truck throwing lollies at us.... god imagine that today....law suits everywhere. And kapow down this lil vege went under the car.
Needless to say I spent christmas in hospital and a wheelchair for a year.. LOL. I had only been out of hospital for 5 months from serious burns the year before.. 2 christmas in a row!!

well I cheat at Xmas,.
Instead of me spending hours wondering around the shops trying to wrack my brain as to what my kids and grandkids want for xmas. I ring or email the oldest and ask what they are getting themselves collectively as a gift,,last year , the boys 6 and 2/12 got a swing set, as they were going cheap ( a gym equipment company around qld was going out of business )and my son-in-law was helping move the said swing sets to another warehouse, he asked how many were for sale at a certain price and between 2 guys they managed to help 10 families have a better xmas for the kids .
I deposit money into their accounts and they do the walking. That means I dont need to pack, wrap, post etc so the cost is down...simple..

Well there's no kids in my immediate family but I always get pressies for my best friends kids. This year, nope, one of the little ones has a revolting "I get everything I want" attitude and after she opened up the HUGE bag of pressies on her birthday from me, she threw them on the floor and said "Is that all!!??" .... yep it certainly is.

Hmm Darren, Christmas can be a very lonely and downright trying time for a lot of people. What about the homeless, do they "need help" because they can't enjoy Christmas Day??

There's a lot of people who don't have the privilege of sitting down with 20 odd people for a meal .... what about them?? What about the people who spend Christmas Day alone? Is it "wrong" of them to not enjoy or look forward to Christmas??

As a kid I wasn't a fan of christmas because of the way I was treated by my parents and that also went for birthdays.

When I got married and we had our own kids I started to really enjoy christmas, ducking out late at night to pickup all the toys and bringing them home to put into the kids christmas bags and sometimes after putting some toys together and getting into bed just before the first child got out of bed to discover that Santa had been to me meant something and still does.

My kids still leave their christmas bags at my house for their presents and my 2 grandsons have their bags as well.

Also for the first time in about 30 years I will be spending christmas with some of my sisters and maybe some friends.

Bah Humbug, definately not but Peace and goodwill I reckon YES
