Half asleep, unattentive, make-up adjusting, mobile-phone-talking bike riders don't make it out of the driveway.
Half asleep, unattentive, make-up adjusting, mobile-phone-talking car drivers are everywhere. Capeesh?
It's a safe bet that riders are much more highly skilled road users and are more aware of their surroundings, as are truckies. Why? Because car drivers are on 'autopilot' most of the time cos it's a boring and mundane way to travel.
The message here is to switch on your brain when you drive, and open your eyes. Stop to read the map, to brush your hair or to answer the pesky mobile. Today you'll narrowly miss a motorbike, tomorrow you'll clip a bicycle, the next day you'll flatten a pram...

| JUST A BIKER (but you didn't see me) Posted: 10/19/2008 5:53:24 AM | a boring and mundane way to travel. Maybe its only a boring and mundane way to travel when you are a speed freak, adrenaline junkie on a bike who feels the need to push the boundaries and put other people on the roads at risk as well as yourself.
I just find it funny that bikers feel the need to blame drivers and get agro where as car drivers just accept bikers as a pain in the ass they have to put up with. A lot like taxes really.
Capeesh?? | |

| JUST A BIKER (but you didn't see me) Posted: 10/19/2008 6:07:51 AM | just to throw a example into this one.
today as i was out riding (and not being a tool for a change) i was traveling under the speed limit(unusual for me) noticed the car about 150 mtrs in front turning into a side street , noticed a red corrola waiting to turn out of the side street, noticed two cars coming head on, car is in side street , im still about 50 mtrs from cnr , red car idles out of side street diffectly infront of me. at this point im traveling about 60 in an 80 zone have a hand full of front brake , hand full of clutch , trying to break rear brake off mount, bike coasting on front wheel with a fist full of revs. low and behold the driver looks out there window wide eyed with blank look on face as in heading towards there door.
i pull up about 3 mtrs off the door drver looks at me blankly, next thing im going off at them for being a mindless ....., they look at me with a questioning expression as if it is all my fault and they have done nothing wrong. worst thing is i missed them. looking back i wish i had have hit there door , would have been nice to know that maybe in the future they would pay more attention to whats on the road rather than what ever it is they are thinking about. this sort of behavour is why i also gave up on the idea of being a truck driver. i lost count of how many near miss's i had when driving because others are sure morons on the road.
for all the drivers out there that have not riden on the roads , GET OUT OF THE CAR AND SEE WHAT IT IS LIKE FOR A MOTORCYCLIST BEFORE YOU CARRY ON SAYING THINGS TO THE TUNE OF "MOTORCYCLEST SHOULD BE BANNED OR THEY ALWAYS BLAME SOMEONE ELSE"
might make you relise life is valuable and drivers become so complacent.

What is the sound of one hand tossing?
Flap, flap, flap, flap, flap....

| JUST A BIKER (but you didn't see me) Posted: 10/19/2008 8:08:09 AM | I couldn't help but see your post ...It seems to me you don't like people that ride bikes......Your choice !!
???
I ride bikes. People that ride bikes and bikers are 2 different things to me. And your right it is my choice --so fly away. I did clear this up earlier but the post was deleted with another because she was calling people names. You missed it.
That poem isn't about people who ride bikes...if it was it wouldn't have all that crap about your purse and your kids etc. It is about bikers and how we are mistaken about who they are--they are really church goers and Santa Clauses--it is how they think they have no choice in how they live because society is against them...and everyone is picking on them ugh barf. Bullsh*t. You don't live where I have lived....when you see kids being shot over these idiots fighting for the run of the drug trade then you can comment...162 people dead....more than that wounded--one of the people were 4 years old--the other 10 years old--the 10 year old was killed by one of the hundreds of bombs they planted...yes I hate bikers and don't know anyone who doesn't. I don't need to get a life but they definitely do.
.My suggestion to you...........Go get a life!!!!!!!
OK..Looks like you need one . I'll send it for your birthday.

| JUST A BIKER (but you didn't see me) Posted: 10/19/2008 9:01:27 AM | I will add a recent 'accident'... and this one is not a near miss.
I'm approaching an intersection in the right lane, lights are green. In the left lane is a bike and I'm a little behind her, cos I tend to keep behind any bikes to increase my vision when I'm travelling anywhere near them. I just like to know where they are. I really don't think I could sleep well if I killed someone.
We are a few car lengths from the intersection and cruising along and almost simultaneously I notice her brake light go on and the sound of an ambulance that has also come into view in the street to the left of the intersection. I follow her lead and we both stop to let the ambos through. His siren is on, his lights are flashing and he is moving slowly across our path to turn right and head back where we had come from.
The girl and I are both stationary at the white line and have given each other a nod and a grin, and all of a sudden, (there wasn't even the sound of an attempt at braking) the girl and her bike have been collected from behind by an idiot in a car and catapulted sideways in front of the ambos. The girl and her bike (now seperated) both slide through the intersection into oncoming (thankfully stationary) traffic. The car careened behind the ambulance and came to a stop about 30m on the other side of the intersection.
The ambos have stopped in the middle of the intersection and raced to the girl, and a florist shop lady has leapt from her van behind me to help right the bike and get it to the side of the road. Miraculously, the ambos walk the limping girl over to the bike, just as I look up to see the mongrel car driver dissappearing over the rise in the road!
That CAR driver obviously couldn't see the ambulance with its flashing lights AND hear the damn sirens on it... let alone the bike and rider... and if he'd hung around long enough I'd be willing to put my savings on the fact, he would have said "Oh, I didn't see her."
Damn right he didn't. We all just had to watch her fly across the road from a stationary position in his direct line of sight... um, why? Cos she was riding like an idiot?? Cos she was speeding?? Cos she was wearing a red work top and black jeans???.... Maybe some guy in a bandana told everyone someone was a crap lay and she just had to cop it cos no-one on a bike deserves any respect now???
Who friggen knows... The fact is, he didn't see her.
And he should have. | |

The previous posts??.....bikers blaming drivers yet again. No one has tried to say its never a drivers fault but often it is a biker at fault. Everytime you go even a few KS over the speed limit, yes you are then at some fault. If you are gonna play with the big toys then act like big boys and be responsible maybe.

| JUST A BIKER (but you didn't see me) Posted: 10/19/2008 9:43:47 AM | Something to remember to say. You wonder why we ride in numbers? You can't run us all down so its back to a level playing field. +You get air con, stereo etc....... -stuck in traffic.
+We get traffic sneaking, feeling free ,-no protection
Just a small comparison

I received this poem years ago--it was popular out here when the Banditos were slaughtering each other. The few times I received it it was from outlaw bikers. Maybe that is why I read it that way.
My perception of the poem is obviously different from yours. To me it is about outlaw bikers saying that they are perceived wrong and they do a lot of good--and they do have toys run and other things but it doesn't make up for the havoc they wreak. You can't go plant 100 bombs and say 'oh but we did a toy run'.

^^^I'm with her....people who use the streets as their own personal war ground don't earn the right to be glorified in a poem in my book.

| JUST A BIKER (but you didn't see me) Posted: 10/19/2008 2:35:48 PM | I agree that outlaw bikers use decieving tactics to show that they are whorthwhile citizens with charity events etc etc. and people who fall for it are just fools really.
On to the attitude thing, I was riding over thcrest of a hill one day at 100KPH which was the speed limit for the area. I noticed a furniture van coming towards me, and then the vehicle behind him began overtaking and came directly towrds me. I hit the brakes extremely hard veered off the road into the dirt and luckily kept it up. I chased this guy down, caught him at a set of lights and confronted him about his actions. He was quite surprised at my reaction and made out it was my fault because" you bike people are supposed to stay on the edge of the road so cars can overtake".....What the F$ck?????????............
Oh well, I'm here to tell the tale.
Hey, we might be misunderstod, and we might be seen as "different" from society, but then it's no different to animal libbers and greenies.....They may not be seen as mainsteam as doing things the "normal" way, but to my mind they are infact better people for not taking the easy way. Same with motorcyclists, it's not the easy way, and it's not as polluting etc, but some will always see us as having less rights.
I still have a laugh when someone will stand on their high horse about being a greenie, while handing out paper leafets made from trees and hopping into their clapped out piece of junk blowing smoke and chewing fuel.....Some people are so hypocritical it's laughable.

| JUST A BIKER (but you didn't see me) Posted: 10/19/2008 2:52:18 PM | the common demoninator in all of this is HE............ yes the male species on the bike and in the car.
so guys why not make it easier for all of us and stay off the roads totally!!
males are the most aggressive and stupid drivers/riders and cause no end of grief and carnage day after day. i don't have to quote statistics (coz i can't be bothered looking any up) but just listen to the radio news, or read the papers and I think you will see I am right!
so for all of you blaming each other - taking responsibility for yourself. bikers are a breed of their own and their pompous attitude will never help the situation. can't say i have ever seen a motorbike rider going the speed limit and probably never will.
males will always be tossers whether on bikes or in cars - capeesh!

| JUST A BIKER (but you didn't see me) Posted: 10/19/2008 3:31:37 PM | Where is the love ? Where is the innocent until proven guilty ? Where is the 'giving someone a fair go' ?
Caustic, flippant and genernalising comments don't keep you open to undersatnding, it indicates you have shut the door ... on yourself.
Inflexability isn't a strength, its a weakness ... and the anger you carry is more indicative of how you feel about yourself than another person ... you don't know the person, the road they have travelled, the circumstances they are in ...
For your own sake ... let go of the rage so that compassion has top billing in your life.

this might be a presumption but I assume you were referring to me ^^^^ person up there
i never said all male are "a holes" - so to quote me on that one is wrong to start with. males and the predominant ones commenting on this topic (and some females) blame other males - so perhaps a little leway here please, or reread the posts. some of the males have even admitted to it....... so just going on what i know (some people take things way way to seriously too - but I guess that goes with the territory too!) the majority of males are the cause of accidents - be it in the car on on a bike, even dumb and dumber knows that, and speed plays a major factor. not hard to clarify that if you wish.
but again - males (oh and to clarify - the majority but not necessarily all) in cars on bikes = dangerous!

| JUST A BIKER (but you didn't see me) Posted: 10/19/2008 5:14:21 PM | I suggest you re-read the second part of the first line of your own 'last post'.. My opinion re this (and many of your previous posts)..., remains. You did infer exactly..., that all males are 'a' holes. Own your truths. Try not to blame shift.
I say all humans can be 'a' holes at times...., whether they choose to do it in a vehicle or on a bike...., or elsewhere.
The original poem was allegedly for a deceased bike rider and I pay due respect to a human that people loved and respected. RIP

just did and still did not see where I said they were a-holes - your interpretation not mine. perhaps own your truths - and not misinterpret them what others say and then get cut about it. you are just picking on certain aspects of what you think i said - i am only going on the road trauma stats re male drivers, it speaks volumes dont you think about how males drive, not about them being a-holes, which is what you think or would like to think i said. but it is good that we can each have our own interpretations - whether good or bad and not get nasty hey! (oh and i don't think many of my posts say males are a-holes either - i think you don't understand my tongue in cheek attitude, or perhaps you should take less notice or me and more of some other females who truly hate men) so i think i will just agree to disagree with you again re me saying anywhere - and quote if you can that all men are a-holes, i love men - well some of them.
and for the record - i had a brother killed on a motorbike 25 years ago.....so yes RIP paul - so much you missed, so much i missed, so much we all missed.
