In the first UFC's with no weight class and rounds.Gracie at 170lbs took on Dan Severin a qualified greco-roman wrestler at 260lbs.
Severin had Gracies head pinned against the cage wall and the floor.Gracies head and neck were bent at 90 degree angle with most of severins weight bearing down.
Gracie was pinned in the painful looking position for 11 minutes and finally countered and suddenly won in quick fashion.
By far the most amazing performance I have ever seen.I don't know where he got the balls to survive that 11 mins.He was totally spent at the end.One of the "manliest" performances I have seen in any sport.

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 1/19/2009 12:30:07 PM | my two favorite fighters are Quinton Jackson and Thiago Alves. 1st Rampage, I like everything about him. He has the most colorful personality out of any of the fighters in the sport. I feel his standup is as good as anyones in his weight class. His ground game isnt legendary but he will ground n pound.
Now, for Thiago Alves. Plain and simple, this guy is a f u c k i n beast!! Besides Anderson Silva, i feel he has the best Muay Thai in the sport. He is also well versed in BJJ although he is more comfortable on his feet. Heres where a lot of people will disagree with me. He has a title shot with the winner of GSP/Penn winner. I think GSP wins against Penn and then loses to Alves. I think this guy is gonna rule 170 for a long, long time. Lookin forward to getting some feedback!!!!

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 1/19/2009 2:06:13 PM | dtigers11, I thought Alves was the fighter of the year for 2008-he beat three Top 10 welterweights, and in each fight he was the underdog.
We will most likely see him in a title fight sometime this year, although there are some rumblings that he's going to fight Mike Swick this spring.Swick is a dangerous guy,but I think Alves stops him early in the fight.
And I love Rampage as well.I think he walks through Jardine at UFC 96,assuming he has finally learned how to check a leg kick.

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 1/19/2009 8:19:05 PM | | Loved that fight with Gracie & Severn as well - I remember watching it live, thinking nothing was happening with Gracie being pinned up against the cage, left the room for no more than a minute only to come back to him holding the cheque in the middle of the octagon. Thank god I was taping it cuz I had no idea what happened to turn things around so fast! | |

Anyone else looking forward to Bob Sapp - Bobby Lashley in June?

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 4/28/2009 2:58:29 PM | my favorite fighter is anderson silva. i just love his style. he is so graceful yet devastating at the same time. no one in MMA can come close to matching his style while i can name a list of fighters who all fight the same the same way.
there are so many fighters training the same way and they all fight the same way. nothing can prepare them for silva's style. he can dance circles around you and pick you apart with KO punches at will.
