I was listening to AM sports radioheads. They seem to like the Giants at home, but they are all thinking it's going to be a medium (not high or low) scoring game with it being real close...like 17-14ish. I call BS and say it's going to be a higher scoring game; in the upper 20s or lower 30s. Personally, sorry Sweet Nancy, I predict the Falcons take it in a close one. Hope I'm wrong. Because I like you, I'm pulling for the G-strings on this one. ;)

No need to be sorry Skooch a team is only as good as they play...period! Giants have actually played better on the road this year and Falcons played better at home, so in a away I guess that makes the playing field level. Im HOPING Giants can pull it off. Falcons have had a tough defense this year, Giants who usually are strong in defense has only faired well. Sometimes tight games come down to defenses and big offensive plays, hope Giants Defense shows and perhaps my Cruz will have a few big plays!

Thanks, SweetNancy! The Lions didn't manage to stop the Saints all game. The Saints turnovers managed to stop the Saints on two drives in the first half.

Gee, I dunno, MGM, maybe it was all of the times that the Lions forced the Saints to punt.

*One week after closing out the regular season with a franchise single-game record 617 yards against Carolina, the Saints set an NFL postseason record with 626 yards Saturday night. The previous mark was 610 by San Diego vs. Boston in 1963.

*New Orleans (626) and Detroit (412) combined for 1,038 total yards, tying the NFL postseason record for yards gained by two teams in a game. Buffalo (536) and Miami (502) also combined for 1,038 in an AFC Wild Card game in 1995.

*The teams also combined for an NFL postseason record 839 net passing yards (Saints 459, Lions 380). The previous record was 809 by San Diego (415) and Miami (394) in their 1981 AFC Divisional Playoff game.

*The 34 first downs by the Saints ties an NFL postseason record. The San Diego Chargers also had 34 first downs in their classic overtime victory over Miami in the 1981 AFC Divisional Playoffs.

*The Saints and Lions combined for 56 first downs and 40 passing first downs, each of which are the third-highest total in NFL postseason history.

*The Saints’ 45 points scored tied a franchise postseason mark originally set in the 2009 NFC Divisional Playoffs vs. Arizona.

*The Saints scored 35 second-half points, tied for the second-highest total after halftime in NFL postseason history. The Chicago Bears scored 45 second-half points in the 1940 NFL Championship Game. Three other teams have scored 35 second-half points, most recently Green Bay against Arizona in a 2009 NFC Wild Card game.

*The Saints scored three rushing touchdowns in a postseason game for the first time in team history. Its previous high was two, on three occasions.

* The Saints became the seventh team in NFL history not to punt in a postseason game. The most recent was Green Bay against Atlanta in last year's NFC Divisional Playoff.

*QB Drew Brees completed 33 of 43 passes for 466 yards and three touchdowns. The yardage total is a postseason career high for Brees, a Saints playoff record and the second-most in NFL postseason history. Only Cleveland’s Bernie Kosar, who passed for 489 yards against the New York Jets in the 1986 AFC Divisional Playoff, has thrown for more yards in the postseason.

*In seven career postseason games with the Saints, Brees has 16 touchdown passes and one interception. He has a streak of 215 postseason pass attempts without an interception, including 102 in the Saints’ three-game run to Super Bowl XLIV. Brees lowered his own NFL record for lowest career percentage of passes intercepted in the postseason (0.61%; 2 interceptions in 328 attempts).

*Brees improved his postseason career passer rating to 103.7, third-best in NFL history behind Aaron Rodgers (112.6) and Bart Starr (104.8). Brees entered Saturday with a career postseason passer rating of 102.0 and moved past Kurt Warner (102.8) into third.

*RB Darren Sproles scored his first two postseason touchdowns as a Saint, on a 2-yard run in the second quarter and a 17-yard run in the fourth quarter. It was Sproles’ first rushing TDs in the postseason since his 22-yard run in overtime for San Diego against Indianapolis three seasons ago.

*RB Pierre Thomas led the Saints with 66 yards rushing on eight carries, including a postseason career-long 31-yard run in the first quarter. Prior to Saturday night, Thomas’ career-long run in the playoffs was 12 yards.

*WR Devery Henderson caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Brees on the opening possession of the third quarter. Though Henderson’s last regular-season TD was in Week 2 against Chicago, he has been much more productive in the playoffs. He has a TD catch in four of the Saints’ last five postseason games over the last three seasons, only failing to score in Super Bowl XLIV.

*WR Marques Colston caught seven passes for 120 yards, a career postseason high and his first career 100-yard playoff game. In six seasons with the Saints, Colston has topped the 100-yard mark 20 times, second most in franchise history.

*Colston’s 40-yard reception in the third quarter is a career playoff long.

*WR Robert Meachem had four receptions for 111 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter. Prior to tonight, his previous career long postseason catch was 12 yards.

*Meachem had just one 100-yard game in the regular season – a three-catch, 119-yard effort on Dec. 4 against Detroit.

*TE Jimmy Graham’s 3-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter was his first postseason TD. Graham tied a franchise record with 11 receiving touchdowns in the regular season.

*CB Jabari Greer had two interceptions in the fourth quarter to tie a franchise record for interceptions in a postseason game, matching the mark of Sammy Knight (2000 vs. St. Louis).

*In 113 career regular-season and postseason games before Saturday, Greer had never had a two-interception game.

*Greer also had four passes defensed and shared the team lead with seven tackles.

And, the Saints won their first game in franchise history when the game was played on a Saturday.

Now the Saints need to put up some decent numbers out in San Francisco and if the Giants can pull off an upset in Green Bay this coming Sunday, we can host the NFC Championship game!

Perhaps, caddy, the home team will pull off the upset. But the 49ers have not faced an offense of the Saints quality this season. The Saints would have to go where they have never gone before in winning a playoff game in an opponent's stadium.

And who do you have that can cover Colston and Meachem, let alone Graham???

But back in the old NFC West, the Saints often won in San Francisco. Old times, different players! This should be another hard fought battle!

And this has been a year for many new first for the Saints!

Exactly. The Niners feasted on their weak schedule this year. Niners remind me of many teams that have a great regular season and are one and done in the playoffs. Anything can happen in these games, but I'd be surprised to see the Niners beat the Saints on Sunday.

The trip, the grass and the week's rest are insignificant and non-factors. Home town crowd makes a difference. The best O your D has played against was the Ravens, and how'd that work out for ya? And the Ravens O isn't close to the Saints O.
The Saints D is subject to giving up some big plays, but have played better of late. Gore is always tough but will not run rampant over the Saints. Smith will have to throw well for the 49ers to win and keep up with the points from the Saints.

If you guys are picking the Saints because of their game against the Lions, you all are misled .

Detroit's pass rush was almost zero, zipo, nada, nyet.

After taking the ball Brees could eat a three-course meal and could still have time to throw the ball deep. If the 9ers give Brees that much time, which I doubt, 9ers players can kiss the season good-bye.

caddy, I think that you've been "fealing" your toy between your legs way too often and have lost your "purity of essence" and drained your brain.

Romo threw for over 400 yards against the 49ers. Okay, that was early in the year. A gimpy Roethlisbrger threw for over 300 yards against the 49ers. Both of those games were in San Francisco.

The Saints have a better O line than either of those teams. Here's how I see it unfold. Brees opens up throwing (nothing new there) mid range passes behind the linebackers. The linebackers have to respect that and drop back on the snap which opens up the Saints run game for gains of 5-7 yards a clip. The Saints also have better running backs than the Steelers and Cowboys. And then it's game on! The backers come up, Brees throws over the top. The backers drop back, Brees hands off on the draw or throws short underneath.

You say that the Saints haven't faced a D like the 9ers this year? Well the Texans had the top rated D in the league before facing the Saints. After the Saints put over 450 yards and 40 points on the Texans, the Texans went from 1st to 8th.

The 9ers have thrived on turnovers and getting points off of them. The Saints have been good this year in not turning the ball over. I expect Brees to cautious and not give the 9ers those turnovers to capitalize upon in this game.

No diss to the 49ers or Giants but almost everyone outside of 49er or Giant fans wants to see the matchup between Packers and Saints. Whoever wins that game wins the Superbowl. I just don't see any team from the AFC beating any of those two teams.

everything said to me that the saints will win. But, I will say again it has been a strange year and the saint don't do well on the west coast. Ram game this year. Seahawks last year. The big differents in the game will be Graham. If the niners can take the middle of the field away. They can win. I'm a Seahawk Fan 12 man baby I HATE the niners. I just think there coaching staff will have that team prepared. Who ever win will be beat to sh#t for the following game.

That might have something o do with the two All-Pro first team O-linemen the Saints have on their team. No other team can say that. The Niner D hasn't seen an O-line like they're going to see this Saturday.

with the playoffs here stats are more important than ever.
here you got the saints at the 49ers. one bad offense against one bad defense and one good offense against one good defense.
i like the 49er chances if they can force the saints to punt a few times otherwise the 49er offense isn't gonna be able to keep up.

Yes, HD, you are correct. Just like before last week, the Saints had never won a game played on a Saturday in their history. But, this has been a year where the Saints have managed to do many things that they had never done before in their, or the NFL's history! Do ya wanna see the list again? Be warned, it is a long one. Nevermind, just scroll back through the posts on this thread and you'll find it.

It's time to put those lists to rest and laissez les bons temps rouler as my Tahitian friends would say.
Only half a day of hype left until the best weekend of the year in the NFL and very often better than The Bowl itself.

No more cliches left to say so -

*BRING IT ON!

*Good luck to everyone who still has a horse in the race.

*Ok now no more cliches left.

And Big Ben was yet to lose a playoff game on the road until last week. So the way the playoffs have been going, the generel consensus will suggest that the Saints will end that playoff road losing streak and win this week on the road for the first time, but we will just have to wait and see.
