IMO wisdom is coming to terms with the things you do not know (or the fact that one cannot know everything).
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/3/2008 5:29:20 PM | | Wisdom and Intelligence are two different forms of cognation. Wisdom is the knowledge that is inherent in your mind, the things you just "know" on your own. Intelligence is the knowledge that you acquire through study and active participation in the world around you. | |
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/3/2008 9:54:17 PM | | Is intuition, hunches, e.s.p. etc., all included in what you just "know?" And to A. .."to err is human, to forgive is divine." I appreciate how you (A) phrased your response.." a portion of wisdom..." How very true. | |

"that is, when a man is capable of being in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason"
That is, as I understand it, to accept that one cannot always resolve a problem immediately and sometimes not at all but one must wait and allow it to ripen.
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/4/2008 6:11:17 PM | | Isn't wisdom the understanding of consequence without any formal cognition process as we know it? | |
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/4/2008 9:06:17 PM | | A....Keats definition of Wisdom is the closest to a "wise" description of Wisdom I can think of. Wonderful. And GBK's following definition fits right into Aloyasha's. Right on brothers and sisters!! Or more sedately, fellow human beings. | |
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/16/2008 10:55:58 PM | | Wisdom is silent, is vigilant, is critical to each and every moment and action and reaction that you, I, they decide to make. Wisdom does not reward or hurrah each of your reactions and non reactions. Wisdom waits until you take notice and awake. | |
|
| Wisdom is compassion.. Posted: 12/17/2008 1:04:53 AM | ...for both self and others, and can exist at any age. We are told to "become like little children," and yet we 'chide' those who do not act grown up!!!
Old age without wisdom is sad in deed. Old age without wisdom may, in fact, mean premature death, although there are old who are not deeply wise.
Deep wisdom in old age may actually lead to a vital old age.
God helps at any age, and enriches all, even those who have not ears nor eyes to see, nor hear.
Perception does influence many things, and one interesting thing about perception is how can can enable or disable us. Simple things, like bringing out the joy in another is made possible by our perception at that moment. Most people do not see the possibilities for joy that exist, one moment after the next.
Nothing really effects true being.
Fear and love are both very close; abandon both and see something bigger.

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/17/2008 11:02:23 AM | | I also think that wisdom is an innate ability to see things from prime source cause to final effect and all the ripples in between. To know this and to choose the part you play to lead to the best final effect for everyone given the situation... | |

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/17/2008 9:11:47 PM | Wisdom is a sum of many things. It is responsibility, principle, discipline, broadened understanding, and experience. Those seeking wisdom tread a path a thousand steps high. | |
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/17/2008 9:26:49 PM | Wisdom is introspection... Wisdom is being reflective in a quite non-assuming way... Wisdom just Is...
like love...something you don't hold...just happens...your quite content you have felt it.
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/18/2008 5:47:20 AM | Someone once said that being able to be content without knowing what the future holds is wisdom, but I can't give you an exact quote or who by.
I honestly don't know what wisdom is, I can't see it, feel it, or touch it, but I hope that some day I'll be able to see that I have it. :D
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/18/2008 8:59:06 AM | Knowledge, experience & love - together = Wisdom
I tend to think 'wisdom' is a tad more complex but then I rarely see the human condition as 'simple' .. hmmm perhaps I ought rethink that! lol For a change I thought I'd keep it short.

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/18/2008 11:27:13 AM | Wisdom is putting knowledge to the test through ample time and being able to have answers that can define realistically the result of how that phenomenon works in real life and being able to describe or predict changes to theories based on the knowledge and experience on that subject.
You have really smart and intellectual people who assume they have answers but it is never wisdom until they put it through the testing in living over and over and over and over...
Just because you can repeat a theory and understand the logic behind it does not mean you are wise until you put theories, self-made or text-book to the test of life. It's like an enlightment.

Really like both of those.
Its an amalgam of all different things that allows us to apply our thought and action in a way that is good for the whole.....
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/18/2008 2:58:27 PM | perhaps it is cynicism as that is often the truths unbared IMO... but i'm just joking sort of...
Wisdom is implementation of the fact that LIFE is not black and white (ie not every story is a stereotype), and the ability to be empathic and compassionate; not with a concious effort, but because you are wise.
|
| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 12/18/2008 9:57:14 PM | | and taking each and every viewpoint and listening and voila! Such joy in the voices that choose to speak. I truly appreciate the dialogue. Wisdom in itself does not welcome voices that speak in closed and dead circles. Wisdom seeks to affirm life in the final analysis. With gusto and no apologies. | |

If all we are doing is trying to proove our intellect to be superior,we will loose most people in the process. So my definition of wisdom/sane."We live in the real world, those who see reality are sane/wise,those who live in fantsy land/religion are not sane/wise."This makes it simple enough for nearly everyone to grasp!

aaah but, venusuranus; if (as you say) you want to "connect with the masses" - I would suggest you not eliminate that Very Human need for fantasy .. fun .. that which seeds our dreams is rarely found in what You perceive to be reality!! NO no no!! There is Great Wisdom in the one who has a Balance of all these things - Wonder/awe, Knowledge, Experience, Love and an ability to not just say - but to Know that No one "knows" everything and the wisest among us is the one who has a smile and not just the ability but the Freedom to say "I don't know."
Just my opinion of course ..

Ouch! This is riddled with questionable assertions, e.g. what is your authority and criteria for defining the "masses"? That smacks of elitism! Similarly, how do you define the "reality" of the real world?
