It will be from people realizing that the man wants to take us down the path of Western European socialism, and, yes, that will include confiscating guns, and probably knives, like they do in the U.K.

Posted: 11/4/2008 12:53:05 PM | Here's the hook, an AK-47 is a Class Three Full-Auto weapon. It's already illegal to own UNLESS you have a Class Three License or a AK-47-Varient which is ONLY Semi-Automatic (One shot per trigger pull)
The Clinton Assault Weapons Ban had 72% semi-automatic weapons on it. Why? Because most people have NO CLUE what a REAL Assault Weapon IS! Assault Weapons are FULL AUTOMATIC FIRE CAPABLE!! By using the misnomer, Clinton got it passed. Of course, after a few years they figured out that ONE, the majority of the companies making the banned guns either went completely out of business OR remaufactured the weapons to be semi-auto only (Intertec's Tec-9 became the AB-10, etc), TWO, that the legislation had almost ZERO effect on the ability of crooks to obtain such weapons as our borders look like swiss cheese, and THREE, The Class Three License Permit Applications quintupled so that citizens without criminal records could still legally own them. So when it came time to renew the ban, Congress looked at it, laughed, and let it die.
Of course, they also remembered what happened the next two elections after the ban passed. People voted Republican in DROVES as a backlash response, so the Dems lost the House & Senate. (Kinda funny because the Dem party STARTED in the South which is still the bastion of anti-criminal gun laws with few laws aginst legitimate owners).
And that's why all the fuss about automatic weapons/ Clinton's Ban is really a moot point. Dredgeing it up again will only serve to do the same thing it did last time...mobilize the NRA and other gun owners to kick everyone out who voted for it. And when they go on the warpath...it has a decided effect.

Now, on to Sen. Obama's statements that he is not wanting to ban your hunting rifles...EVERY STATEMENT that he made since Heller has been Pro-Gun. Every statement AND VOTE except ONE, PRIOR to Heller was ANTI-Gun. This is why people like me are a bit concerned and uncertain whether or not to believe Sen. Obama. Heck, I'm a registered Democrat and I'm STILL waiting until the last minute to vote simply because the issue has NOT been resolved in my mind. | |

Someone explain why you need an AK47? Obama has clearly stated he doesn't want to ban your hunting rifles or guns for protection, but wants to make it harder for criminals or psychotics, etc. to so easily purchase assault type weapons or for those groups any weapon. ..still who needs an AK47..and why are you opposed to more stringent checks on who is purchasing these? Do you want suitcase nukes allowed to be sold to everyone too?

Posted: 11/5/2008 11:39:59 AM | Technically, any rifle can be used for hunting purposes. But I'd not use an AK-47 for hunting unless I was a REALLY awful shot. Well...maybe if a Bear was the target...those critters are VERY difficult to stop, even with a heart/lung hit.
My primary weapon for hunting deer is a Compound Bow, I used to hunt deer with a 12-gauge shotgun &/or a .30-06 bolt-action rifle, dependant on mood & terrain. For varmints I use a .22lr semi-auto pistol or a .22 Magnum Bolt-action rifle.
For burglars I use a 10mm semi-auto Glock. It does the job. Great replacement for my duty .357 magnum revolver!
So what is an AK-47 good for? Making noise, expending massive amounts of ammo in a short period of time, effective range of around 200-300yds if you are a VERY good shot and you've tricked it out a bit, decent Home Defense weapon, but it's best use is for killing insurgents/enemy troops/drug dealers. It just really isn't a good choice for a Hunting Rifle. But it could easily be considered a Proper Militia Weapon.

I remember seeing a video in the 1980s of a 1-shot comparison between an actual AK 47 & a 30-06 hunting rifle.
A watermelon was set on a stand about 50 ft away. The dude fired 1 shot from the AK-47 & it blew a hole about the size of a fist through the watermelon.
The same dude fired 1 shot at another watermelon from the 30-06. The watermelon exploded violently & disintegrated.
...So I guess the previous poster was right...why do you need an AK-47 when a 30-06 is much better?
CONCLUSION: Lets ban the AK because it only looks deadly, but since the 30-06 is a "hunting" firearm, leave it alone - it looks visually harmless in comparison. LOL | |

First of all, I want to acknowledge that you're posting tongue-in-cheek (I think)
This is a perfect example of how the public gets misled by our government. "Assault Weapons" ought to something much more dangerous than "hunting rifles", right?
How about "cop killer bullets"? If you ban bullets based on their ability to defeat lightweight personal body armor, there goes your 30-06 and a lot of other popular hunting rounds. | |

I think I saw that video too.
Maybe for this very reason the AK-47 is a better hunting rifle. Presumably if I'm hunting I'm doing it for food (hunting for sport makes no sense to me). Why would I want to splatter all the meat all over the place. The skin of the animal is also going to be useful for making clothing. The less damage the more material. | |

Actually, the AK is probably not the better hunting rifle. Don't assume the damage it does to a deer is going to resemble that done to a watermelon.

Yea...that was the point I was trying to make...those who dont know any better are duped by the anti gun politicians & swallow their preachings without blinking...even though they themselves are also ignorant of facts & use hype & visuals to ramrod their beliefs on the public.
I also remember hearing accounts of GIs in WW2 using the 30-06 Springfield against Germans in forest warfare. The Germas with their MP 42 "assault weeapon" machine guns spraying hundreds of rounds of lead through the air with abandon, hitting nothing at all with it, while the GI would take aim at that very same German hiding behind a tree, pulling the trigger & firing his 30-06 roung THROUGH the tree killing the enemy soldier WITH 1 SHOT. Cant do that with an AK-47.
Comparing the AK 47 to the 30-06 is like comparing a Corvette to a Maserati. Lets ban the Corvette because it looks far too powerful for Mr. & Mrs. Normal, but leave the Maserati alone...because those who own them seem to fit into a different, more acceptable & refined social class. Credit cards and debt is a new thing...It didnt gain momentum until about 20 years ago..When I was in my 20's..people didnt get in debt...Its a new thing...Not working to well either..People have already spent their retirements with all their equity loans...Theyve already ruined their futures...I know one person with $90,000 debt...Not for a house either...Just vacations...junk...stupid spending.
