Oh I see.... You're a binge and purge kinda fella, eh lovey?
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/7/2008 4:29:06 PM | Imagine if McCain won. We'd have a VP who didn't know what three countries make up North America or that Africa is a continent, not a country.
Palin isn't smarter than a fifth grader.
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/7/2008 4:49:06 PM | I am so proud to be an American at this particular moment in our history and just as proud of everyone, especially to under thirty crowd who supported Obama in his campaign.
I am also amazed that 87% of Los Angeles County's registered voters actually showed up to vote in this election. That makes me proud to say I am a native Southern Californian.
To the nay-sayers who make a big deal about our new President-elect "lack of experience" I would say you entirely miss the point.
What we need is change and now there is Hope for that change. Experience as I hear some make such grand emphasis upon is not (IMHO) as important as having a person of extreme intelligence to lead us... someone who draws on that intelligence mixed with intuition and a "think outside of the box" mentality required for change in the way our government does things.
President elect Obama is from my point of view the most intelligent, intuitive and person of incredible integrity to show up for this job and thank GOD he showed up at a time we need that most of all.
Experience = Status Quo. *uck THAT

| Our New President Posted: 11/7/2008 5:24:41 PM | I write for the Colbert family... We have a lot to say about Papa Bear O'Reilly... (That's why I know how to spell his name ). I watch O'Reilly for a good laugh... in anticipation of the gags his show will bring in the evenings.
You better start looking for a job when Obama becomes President because none of the late night talk shows can make fun of a Democrat, maybe O'Reilly or Hannity will hire you.
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/8/2008 12:22:29 PM | "To the nay-sayers who make a big deal about our new President-elect "lack of experience" "
They swallowed the Republican rhetoric hook, line and sinker and did not bother to check out the facts. In actuality, Obama has more relevant wisdome and experience than McCain or Palin. Luckily, the voters recognized that.
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/8/2008 2:59:29 PM | They swallowed the Republican rhetoric hook, line and sinker and did not bother to check out the facts. I dunno about that. More than likely they voted for their party just as dems voted for their party regardless of who the candidate was.
Both parties are into the rhetoric....its called politics. I mean when Biden was running in the primaries, he himself was quoted several times saying Obama lacked experience and was too green to be commander in chief. Then when he was chosen for V.P all that changed and Obama was now the best choice for commander in chief. Yea... its called politics.
I think it would be pretty safe to say it was the independents and other unaffiliated groups that ultimately decided the election.
After all.... it came down to 52% Obama - 48% McCain. Hardly a mandate or landslide by any means....
I am just glad it is over.

you won't see Leno making off-color jokes. By the end of the season, we won't see Leno making jokes on late night at all.....he got the boot, remember? (I still miss the class that Johnny brought to it all!)

| Our New President Posted: 11/8/2008 4:52:13 PM | I think Pete should have a show on late night and call it Petered Out. He can have guests everynight from POF on the show..... could be something along the lines of a half Jerry Springer / half Jay Leno kinda thing.......there can be fights, hair pulling, making fun of weird single people, POF losers, POF winners, live sex, married people who got caught with a profile on POF, forum topics, POF players, guys who got layed on the first date, guys who got slapped on the first date, people who contacted STD`s from POF, dating contests, teary eyed broken heart stories ...the list can be endless .....
I can just see it :
Ladies and Gentlemen......** LIVE ** from southern California.... PETERED OUT hosted by that guy Pete

There is still PLENTY to parody BTW... not the least of which will be O'Reilly AND Hannity... and the Republican party...
You have something with Hannity, but you really don't know WTF you're talking about when it comes to O'Reilly and if you did you would realize that he has pissed off a good portion of the Republican Party this election cycle. O'Reilly was actually way more forgiving of Obama than McCain in all his talking points during this election and I know because I actually watched O'Reilly and didn't just listen to the talking heads that uninformedly bash him for what "they think he stands for".
Looks like when the "hook, line, and sinker" mantra is sung it hits all parties, even the Libertarians, or as I call them, the "Half Measures Party". The guys who love sitting on the fence screaming at any old person cuz' after all, that's what "they do". Talk about not being able to find a square and land on it.
Now you can take your potshots at me if you like because I watch/ed O'Reilly this election cycle, but the unmitigated fact of the matter is when it comes to him and what he stands for you are completely and undeniably FOS.
Other than that, you're one swell guy!!!

| Our New President Posted: 11/8/2008 8:48:02 PM | I left my humble aboad at 1015 catch a bus to cash 2 paychecks. I cashed my checks and stopped at a arcade to shoot some pool and kill some Water Buffalo. It was a game! I did not reall kill any Buffalo or anything. On the way home, at 215, I caught a bus to Laguna. We got to Laguna and there was a protest of prop. 8 going on. I got home at 730. The last moments of my fathers life, his "mate" of 10 years, . could not hold his hand in ICU. Why? They were not married. She could not collect his possetions. They were not married . I am drunk, my spelling sucks, my spell check is lost. Think about if it were you. | |

| Our New President Posted: 11/10/2008 8:44:10 AM | I think the rest of the world will see us as we see ourselves united! In a time of crises America needs a leader and that leader is within each of us. President- elect Obama is a vessel for the people a voice. Civil rights, Women's rights, Human rights a one World Order will be the legacy of Obama brought about by economic awareness.

Yeah, OK... me and the rest of the world. Trouble is... O'Reilly watchers ARE full of shit... and tests have shown this. What was it... 80% of them believed we actually found WMD's in IRAQ... O'Reilly stands for misleading the public through the media... just like Fox News. O'Reilly is fun to watch because he's a hothead who can't support his own points, and when confronted with this on camera, he cuts the mic of whoever is debating him. He's a **** of the highest magnitude.
More definitive proof that you are completely and categorically FOS.

| Our New President Posted: 11/10/2008 10:29:18 AM | The part where you called me a fan. When a group of people, specifically the ones that make the most noise about something, are going on an on about how "wrong" a person is, and when the mainstream never report the news but their personal agenda talking heads come on and tell Americans what to think, I make it my business to listen to the person they're trashing.
I don't like Bill O'Reilly, but I will tell you from watching him, that he is not the person all the haters say he is. Yes, he is an azzhole, but he also can be fair and he doesn't talk over people any more than Maher, King, or for that matter Fox's own resident pain in the azz Colmes.
I've looked at all the studies that are put out by the Fox Haters and by the Huffington Posters and the rest of the crew that make it their business to critique Fox News.
Newsflash! All that crap and Fox still continues to be on top and that my swelled friend is in the end what really boils your shorts.
So cut and paste all your little web references you like. The fact of the matter is he ain't any worse than the regurgitated rhetoric that is recycled day in and day out on the news that all the lemmings stretch their little hungry necks out for more.

| Our New President Posted: 11/10/2008 10:33:19 AM |
Shall I post a few You-Tubes of him losing his temper and cutting off people's mic's? Who is Full Of Sh!t? (Funny... FOS...FOX... close hun?)
I saw how he came unglued with Barney Frank, and I have to tell you Pete. That was PURE entertainment.
Thanks for the Google tips, but I've done fine on my own, and You Tube? Are ya kiddin' me? You may be old, but you sure as hell ain't Moses!
Put the tablets down already!
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/10/2008 10:55:55 AM |
Still, having done fine on your own, you must then at least acknowledge that I'm not FOS when I point out that O'Reilly IS misleading the public INTENTIONALLY, along with the rest of the FOX News team. One of the first rules of brainwashing (which is what Fox is trying to do) is to get you to question your sources. The "Liberal Media" nonsense is O'Reilly's way of preventing his viewers from getting/trusting the TRUTH. Since you've "done fine" on your own, you I'm sure have no problem confirming that if ANY media source is unbalanced in this country, it is FOX News... Right?
Aw come on Pete. Bill O'Reilly is just as convinced of his bull$hit as you are. Fact is guy, people are bugged about Fox News and their ratings. Don't shoot the dang messenger Pete. You could You-Tube and Google all you like and even a deaf, dumb, and blind person could see it's got people in a snit on a daily basis.
For cripes sake. Just put O'Reilly's name in Google and all you see is HATE, HATE, HATE. You trying to tell me something I don't know?
Thanks for the sermon on Fox News. I shall take your words into consideration and continue to watch the wide variety of news programs and make and reach my own conclusions like I've always done.
I don't particularly believe Fox is any more unbalanced in news than say CNN, MSNBC, NBC, et al.
You may have run Kate off Pete, but I can tell you one thing. I am just reporting "my take" on things, just like you. Making people look less than because you think you're smarter and better is just plain offensive. People learn way better from experience when you're not trying to feed it to them via tracheotomy grasshopper.
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/10/2008 4:22:52 PM | Well Pete, I can only say that after the fifth post you made to Kate it was pretty evident what the net result would be. It was like watching a made for tv movie play out before my eyes I've seen twice a year since I was 7. Pretty predictable.
What I observe doesn't necessarily have to be the accurate truth for all, but it is what I observe and what I saw is what I see played out with people who decide they know what's best for everybody, or in the very least come across with that tone. As soon as they see that they aren't going to be able to convince, coerce, strong-arm, or clobber someone into believing as they do, they just devolve to insults.
That's the way I saw it. I am all for standing up for people's rights. Your perception of that right is naturally going to be different than mine or others. Not completely, but to some degree.
I feel the battle is lost when you take it to the low levels I've seen demonstrated consistently over the last several days. Sometimes the desire to be right is so overshadowed by the way in which you get there. Kind of screws the whole lesson/message/experience.
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/10/2008 8:09:54 PM |
I know... It was like the movie "In Search of Bobby Fischer"... I was planning her demise 27 moves ahead. Why did it take you five posts to see it?
I was trying to remember the nice, funny guy I encountered when I first noticed you.
I know... it was horrible. I wish she would have kept to the topic, but instead she kept trying to snipe at me. I was embarrassed for her.
Well since you and I have conversed outside of the forums, naturally I thought it more comfortable to point out you were being mean and nasty. I don't know Kate, but I felt I had more of a handle on you.
No... I don't agree. "Low" is saying someone else is less in the eyes of God (as if they speak for God). Telling someone they are a bigot for say such ridiculous things is my moral responsibility.
Odd really. This whole paragraph kind of flies in the face of the justification you're trying to make.
Who died and left you the moral arbiter? Who's playing God exactly?
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/10/2008 8:54:10 PM | | Maybe because my tongue is covering my eye teeth and I cannot see your point, but then it's tough getting past the prickly stuff. | |
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/10/2008 9:19:54 PM | I really don't care .... How the world sees us .... The rest of the world .... will always find a way to hate us ...... I care about what .... HE .. will do for this country !! .......... Will he be true to his words ???? Time will tell ...
As I see it .... Obama, has the opportunity to make drastic changes ..... and make a difference to the U.S. and the rest of the world.
The ball is in his court ......
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/10/2008 11:41:02 PM | The rest of the world may find a reason to hate us because of our piss poor foreign relations policies that stem back to Reagan. So be it. The fact of the matter is that the world is recognizing that we citizens of America don't condone and won't tolerate the Bush Doctrine. They can now realize that Bush doesn't actually speak for the American people. He only has 27 percent approval rating. America now has a leader who is represenative of America. | |
|
| Our New President Posted: 11/11/2008 1:17:11 PM | skoochie,
If a majority in every other nation on Earth hated the U.S., can you tell me specifically how that would harm us? And if it wouldn't, why should we care what they think?
It sounds like you think the U.S. should appease countries that sponsor terrorism. Do you think that would cause them to leave us alone? If you do, maybe you can explain why, in the late 1930's, appeasement of Germany led to the very war it was meant to avoid. At least forty million people died in WWII because the leaders of England and France refused to confront Nazi Germany while it was still fairly weak.
I fully support the Bush Doctrine, even if Mr. Bush himself abandoned it several years ago. If you think you have a better plan for protecting this country against Islamist monsters who saw off people's heads on camera, why don't you propose it? Tell us how we can defend a country as large as this one against terrorists, without engaging them on their own ground?
From what Mr. Obama has said, he'll do no more than talk with the Islamist Nazis in Tehran. But no one seriously believes anything but force can prevent Iran from developing nuclear bombs (possibly as soon as a year from now.) And once it does, it will very likely give some of them to the terrorists it controls. After that, these weapons could be stashed anywhere in the world, and no one could ever feel safe.

| Our New President Posted: 11/11/2008 3:44:25 PM | Shameless cut-and-paste:
> > One sunny day in 2009 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue , where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.' > > The Marine looked at the man and said, 'Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.' The old man said, 'Okay' and walked away. > > The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.' The Marine again told the man, 'Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.' The man thanked him and, again, just walked away. > > The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.' > > The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, 'Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?' > > The old man looked at the Marine and said, 'Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.' > > The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, 'See you tomorrow sir.'

just hope for the economy to get better so people will be happy and spend money. Or just hope for people to be happy and spend money so the economy will get better.
So that people will be happy and spend money...
