I cut my nail all the way down to the pink bit... no white bit allowed... it drives me barmy! I cant stand long nails... and nail varnish makes my nails feel like they cant breathe!

A lady should always have her hair done, her nails and her heels smooth

I love my nails long and painted but lack the time to daub numerous coats and sit still for drying. Am lucky to have strong nails but don't fret too much when they break and would not want any false ones thanks.
I tend to spend more time on my feet and currently favour slutty red varnish with glass beads, then hide them in boots!
I don't really care what any guy thinks of my nails as I do them for me.
But would not be keen on a guy with long nails.
Dislike chipped nail varnish too, eekk!

I don't like long nails on men, although if you meet a guitarist, they sometimes have a nail or two, you get used to it.

Agree chipped nail varnish is awful, I find with a weekly manicure, you have no option but to sit and wait for drying and it tends to last longer before chipping because of all the layers they apply. (Also as you've spent so much on having them done, you are more careful not to chip them)

I do mine for me too - I use my hands a lot and make a lot of hand gestures (not just while driving) and like to feel confident that my hands don't look like they've spent the past 24 hours uprooting turnips.

My sister has bitten her nails all her life, they looked ghastly and at the ripe age of 40 she just stopped! She didn't even realise she had stopped biting them until she scratched herself and wondered how she'd done it and then noticed she had nails. Wierd or what?

As a man do you really notice the little things women do to make themselves more feminine like painting their nails and such like

I never really notice unless she has man-hands (that's one thing I always seem to notice).

Its not important to me, but I have naturally strong nails, and they look ok. I will paint them occassionally, but would never ever have stuck on nails, they completely ruin your natural nails.
I think its just another one of those things that everyone does.
I like mans nails to be short and clean, cant stand long nails on a man eeeeeeeewwwwwwww.

Oh shush about nails you lot!!!!

My natural nails are paper thin and just cannot grow as they bend and flake too easy.

I get acrylic nails (porn star version! ) done usually but I'm a bit skint so can't afford to get them done just now....

I whimper each time I see this thread title come back!!!

Im no laydee but i used to chew my nails to the quick right up untill my mid thirties then suddenly realised i had stopped.
It was only when i noticed i had to clean under them that it occured to me.
I wonder if theres some psychological reason for this?
Especially as the last 4 years or so has been a roller coaster yet ive not reverted back to nibbling constantly

Colin have you ever considered that you don't bite your nails as your fingers are otherwise occupied these days, typing forum posts, emails and MSN messages to your lady friends?

Oh and by the way, how long are your nails, I want precise measurements and please, oh please, make sure you trim the middle ones on each hand before you come up.

vvvvvvv when you have long nails you use the pads of your fingers for everything anyway, but I guess I know what you mean to a certain extent :)

vvvvvvvvvv Colin - just take it as it comes

I know I must be a wee bit unusual among the ladies on here but I HATE the feel of long nails!!! SHUDDER!!!!! I have to wear mine very short (not bitten, trimmed) so that I can feel things with the pads of my fingers rather than my nails....

The worst thing about having long nails is when I break one (thankfully, a rare occurance) & have to chop 'em all off ~ the sensitivity of the tip of the finger that is usually in the lee of the nails is horrid!

how jealous am i hearing you all talk about ur lovely long nails!!!!

i would love nothing more than to have nice nails with a lovely french manicure etc

ive always had really strong good nails which i had to keep short for work, but a few years ago i was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and although i dont have psoriasis on my body, the side effect is that my finger nails unattach from the nail bed and because of this i cant use false nails or tips and have to keep them as short as i possibily can to avoid catching them and pulling them off!!!

i get very jealous of people with lovely long nails now and i wish i could have mine back!!!

Can't you just stick some on when you go out or something and remove them with the correct fluid? Or would that just rip them off? There are some fab falsies on the market nowadays and real cheap too.

But anyway, I'm sure you are lovely without long nails and that you have something that we would all be jealous of too - so don't worry, what you lack in the trousers you make up for in your hat - that's what I used to tell my ex!

unfortunately false nails are a big no no for me, my nails are realy strong so if i was to catch the false nail it would pull my finger nail off rather than pulling the false nail off!!!

i cant even paint to cover them up because apart from looking very silly because they are so short i cant see if ive done any damage to them.

I shouldnt really complain though because 9 years ago beofre i started medication i could hardly walk so ill take walking over dodgy nails anyday lol!!!

hi,u won't probably believe this but nails is a key attraction for me.I will see a goodlooking girl and try to notice her hands. If she is wearing dark nailpolish i get disgusted,it makes your hands look fat and like clown hands.I like thin long fingers with natural long finger nails, thats a big turn on.more disgusting is a girl who paints her toe nails a dark color,it makes your feet look fat, anyways that my preference, bye x

sorry - only thread I havn't posted on tonight - gok Wan is a great guy - his dad runs the chippy/chinese less than 200 yds from my old house and he appears there regularly to chat and sign autographs - great guy and down to earth which is why he gets on with people so well. Nails - staying on topic - no excuse not to have great nails - bloke or woman - diet is the main factor. I have to keep mine trimmed again now as I am playing keyboards after a considerable break.

I keep mine at a shorter more natural, but certainly not bitten down. I dont paint them but I do use a nail buffer and whitening stick to make them look nice. And I must have really hugely fat feet as I paint my toenails purple ( my fave colour!)

I need them short as my day involves compulsory tickling of a 2 yr old after his bath, and you cant do that with long nails!!

I used to have acrylics before I had him, but I did get quite fed up of the expense every 3 weeks.
If a chap doesn't find me appealing because I have shorter length nails, I dont think I will lose sleep over it!!

But i do come on line often!!

Interesting that almost all posters to this thread are women. I think that answers the question!

I enjoy neatly trimmed nails with a bit of bright red polish for "dress up" if we're going out on the town. For a first date I'd think that was a bit over the top (I'd wonder if maybe you were a bit shallow).

Long nails squick me. And a French polish screams CHAV at me. Really hate it.

The question was about emotional responses - likes and dislikes - and that's what I was answering. In theory I know better than to judge someone that way - but I am as susceptible to first impressions as the rest of us.
