I must be the exception to the rule...I don't care for long fingernails. Acrylic nails look fake...sorry. I had them done once and when I had them taken off a few months later my own nails were like those of a baby...they just fell away when they brushed up against something...I didn't particularly like the look or feel of them and when that happened it kind of made my mind up for me.

Glad you all (most anyway) enjoy long nails, but mine aren't strong enough to grow and keep all 10 at 1 time and I won't do the acrylic thing again...I'll keep with my just over the nail bed nails. Comfy, natural and I'd rather keep the money and book a trip to Edinburgh for a weekend!!

^^^^^^^^^^ "acttwo"? Nails IMO can look just as good when they're not long... Polished and clean - I like to have clean nails all the time - As we use our hands on a continuous basis, they can reveal a lot about a person - they're line of work perhaps, cleanliness and personality - maybe more so than any other part of the body...

I enjoy neatly trimmed nails with a bit of bright red polish for "dress up" if we're going out on the town. For a first date I'd think that was a bit over the top (I'd wonder if maybe you were a bit shallow).

I dont have time do my nails that often ~ they get the full treatment once every 10 days or so, therefore my nails are constantly polished so you'd definitely think I'm a bit shallow! I just cant be @ar$ed with messing around changing colours n stuff, I have other things to do as well as my nails...

I notice a woman hands and nails.I love to see long nails with nail varnish on them.Makes them look more feminine.Toe nails that have been done look nicer than ones that havnt got nail varnish on them.

I'm definately a sucker for long nails

hiya lillian,

i like having nice nails i managed to give up biting them about 10 years ago...(for anyone who wants to stop biting them wear false ones for a while..as you can't bite them it gets you out of the habit, your nails won't be in great condition afterwards for a while but once you have broken the biting habit it's easy to grow them out)

however, i don't tend to paint just a good clean and polish with one of those buffer things to make them shiny, when i am not working or for something special i like french manicure but thas about it.

as for blokes liking them, my sister grew hers ridiculaously long and had a web page devoted to photo's of them apparently it's quite a fetish thing and she had guys sending her packs of nail varnish and stuff.

as for men noticing the little things i think that less important than how doing the little things makes you feel.....i know that when i make an effort with myself, roots done, eyebrows in order, defuzzed, nails done etc etc i feel good and when i feel good about my appearance i feel sexier...so i think guys must pick up on that and notice you feel good about your self

I liked having my nails done every couple of weeks because it meant I had to sit still and not DO anything for 40 minutes and the Nail Bar was a great place for a gossip.

I loved having my nail extensions, which were always in PERFECT condition. However, downside was you can't really SCRATCH properly with the false tips on (they're not sharp) so that wouldn't suit Oggers, and major downside was (like Urban Flower) a couple of my nails went funny underneath the tip and began getting warped. Urgh! Glad I spotted it early, now I don't have them done any more.

However, I do paint them myself when I'm heading out, matching toes and outfit, but it never looks as good or lasts as long as when the professionals did them....

I have long, own nails - right now pained very dark purple that really looks like black.
Same colour on my toes.

My nails are quite important to me as at work my hands are always "on display" so need to feel they look as good as they can.

Never had fake nails, luckily my own ones are quite strong and grow well.

Short nails kept clean. I do a lot of painting/cooking so long nails is just not practical, neither is painting them for every day. Chipped nail polish looks minging.

If I know I have an "event" like a party or wedding coming up I'll let em grow for a couple of weeks and paint em a subtle pale pink or gold. Luckily my nails are very strong so it's never a problem to do this.

In summer my toenails are usually painted sky blue Have no idea why I do this but I love the colour and my toenails take less bashing than my hands so can take a bright colour without looking all chipped and mangled by the end of the day.
