| Old TV Shows Posted: 11/26/2008 12:17:56 AM | | I love the Twilight Zone - I fell in love with that show when I was 11 (good ol' Sci-Fi channel 10:00PM reruns, back in '95). I watch very, very little TV, with the exception of "Lost." | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 11/26/2008 9:10:21 AM | | I heard the Twelve O'Clock High series is out on DVD but can't find it anywhere. Any ideas how to get it? | |

| Old TV Shows Posted: 11/26/2008 11:45:57 AM | Same with an old BBC kid's program from 1970 called "The Double Deckers" where kids hung out in their clubhouse that happened to be an old english double decker bus. I'll bet very few remember that odd little show. LOL
Get on board, get on board, come and join the double deckers, Take a trip or a journey on a giant london double decker bus.
Hehe i used to watch it,looking back it maybe it should have been called the stereotype gang. The funky black kid. The overweight kid who is always eating. The sexy girl all boys going thru puberty love. The genius science kid with glasses that does experiments. The rebellious kid. The leader kid. And the baby of the group.
http://www.thedoubledeckers.com/
bought back a lot of memories but i did cheat quoting the song, you can download an avi or mpg from a website,i cant remember which one.But found it on this "obscure" website.

| Old TV Shows Posted: 11/26/2008 11:56:19 AM | OLD TV SHOWS are PROOF POSITIVE that mankind is DEVOLVING. not EVOLVING, our parents and grandparents were vastly more inteligent and morally correct that we or our childeren might ever become... | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 11/30/2008 3:56:17 AM | Mary Tyler Moore and Di.ck Van Dyke...
(Why do these people have to have 3 names? )
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 11/30/2008 8:07:27 AM | I vaguely remember reading that MTM had to add or change her name because another actress was already registered with the SAG when she joined.
That happened with the actor that played Niles Crane on Frazier/Frasier(lord,my memory is going dooooownhill quickly!!!)
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 11/30/2008 9:07:41 AM | | Adam-12 was my all time favorite, then Hawaii 5O, Emergency, all those cop shows loved them...Find it intresting watching the reality cop shows which are focusing on every possible aspect of lawenforcement...Now we have shows like Speeders and Parking Wars..I read a book on screen writing once the author stated: Everything has been written about, it's the way it's written that will be successful..Depressing really that many older T.V. Shows were ahead of their time so much that there is nothing of real intrest on T.V. today.. | |

| Old TV Shows Posted: 11/30/2008 10:57:20 AM |
also - what about The Prisoner... remember that big ball named "Rover" that would bring people back when they tried to escape? I am not a number, I am a man...
I did watch the Prisoner, because I loved the intro where he drives a fast car to an office building, strides back and forth in front of a large desk, and slams his resignation down in front of the boss. The Prisoner was a spin-off of Secret Agent, imo a better show, which I watched religiously, because of Patrick McGoohan-rapid fire lines, clipped as can be, but your ear catches each word (true for everything he has ever done).

| Old TV Shows Posted: 12/4/2008 8:10:03 PM | Yes a lot of these shows were great and I also loved Bewitched. Elizabeth Montgomery was great. She has a statue in her honor in Salem, Massachussets - witch city.. - It was made a year or 2 ago. In case some are interested (full of infos, videos, etc): www.bewitched.net Great site. | |

| Old TV Shows Posted: 12/4/2008 8:12:59 PM | Byrd,
Remember "NYPD" on ABC from 1967 to 1969? It was a gritty, well-written cop drama. Not to be confused with "NYPD Blue" of the 1980's. I was very young then but I remember watching "NYPD" in reruns.

| RIP Mr. Bentley Posted: 12/4/2008 9:40:57 PM | | I just learned that Paul Benedict, the actor who played Mr. Bentley on "The Jeffersons" died on Monday. | |

| Old TV Shows Posted: 12/29/2008 9:02:11 PM | | Some of my old favorites include "Newhart", "The Golden Girls", "Leave it to Beaver", "The Bob Newhart Show", and "The Andy Griffith Show". Some of these were mentioned already but thought I'd throw my two cents in. | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 12/29/2008 10:04:56 PM | Men Into Space. 1959-60. 38 episodes total. Only one character- Col. Edward McCauley (William Lundigan)- appeared in every episode, most characters appeared only once, but this gave the illusion of having a much larger cast.
It's one of those few late '50s TV shows I'd enjoy seeing redone (PC retitled, of course, simply as "Into Space") with state-of-the-art effects.

| Old TV Shows Posted: 12/30/2008 4:14:25 AM | The 1960's were definitely the Golden Age of network TV. There was no cable and no VCRs. Every night of the week was crammed with production shows from 6pm until the news at 10pm. The early 60s were dominated by Westerns. Gunsmoke Have Gun will Travel The Virginian The Rebel Wanted Dead or Alive There were tons of them which most people don't even remember. Then, the crime dramas started dominating in the mid 60s. Mannix Hawaii 50 Cannon Too many of those to remember them all. When I was a kid, I could tell what time it was by what was on TV during prime time.
Remember when the Tonight Show was 90 minutes long and from New York ? Johnny Carson often had 4 or 5 guests ! Remember the competitors on the other networks ? The****Cavett show ?
Cable and Satellite has ruined the Network dominance they enjoyed in the 60s. The Networks don't want to make productions shows anymore because they are too expensive. Now it's becoming all reality shows which are cheap to make.
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 12/30/2008 8:22:56 AM | Someone mentioned Flipper which triggered a show I enjoyed and haven't seen mentioned yet....Gentle Ben (w/ Ronnie Howard's little brother Clint).
I know what you're saying, nipolean, about knowing what time it was by what was on. Like Sunday evenings with Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom followed by Wonderful World of Disney.
Probably my favorite show? was L.A. Law even though I was 24 when it came on in '86. Remember when Rosalind died stepping into the elevator shaft? Back then, they had to 'write' the characters off a show....not vote them off.
Good thread, OP.

| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/3/2009 12:39:31 PM | Septimus, I bet that you remember all those TV shows from the 1950s as I remember them. For example, Sky King, My Friend Flicka, Annie Oakley and all of those countless westerns on black and white TV. | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/3/2009 1:04:31 PM | "The current "Reality" TV shows pale when compared to the quality of shows like the ones previously mentioned. Does anyone else agree?"
I agree with your point, but we're wallowing in reality because it's so much less expensive to produce. When the budget strings are loosened, and talented writers are brought on board, look at what we get: "Lost", "Rescue Me", "Grey's Anatomy", "Studio 60", "The Sopranos", "Seinfeld", "Cosby", "Cheers", "Hill Street Blues", "Twin Peaks", "Taxi", "St. Elsewhere", "Mary Tyler Moore", "All in the Family".
Sure, 50's and 60's TV was terrific ("The Prisoner"!), but for me each decade brings with it better and better TV.
BTW, you left out "The Twilight Zone". :)
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/3/2009 1:08:51 PM | | My favorite old tv show would have to be The Twilight Zone. I caught some of them on the scifi marathon on new year's day when I was at a friend's house and it's made me want to buy the new boxset. | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/3/2009 1:16:37 PM | I forgot all about the Twilight Zone marathon. Darn it! Some of the now famous actors who were not well known got their start on the Twilight Zone. | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/3/2009 1:58:38 PM |
Can you believe Tom Hanks got his start in that stupid show....what was it called?
That was Bosom Buddies. And I used to looooooooooooooooove Medical Center ---Dr. Joe Gannon!!!!!
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/3/2009 2:02:59 PM | | And I forgot to mention The Waltons! | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/3/2009 8:39:56 PM | | Man! I thought I knew every cop show but I can't recall NYPD In 1969-70 I was going through some tough times around that time maybe that's why..Late 90's early 2000 there was Third Watch, reruns are at 4a.m. on weekdays A and E, Direct T.V. And I watch that most days...I love that show one of my neighbors looks like one of the actors in that show..I haven't asked him because I don't want to bug him there's alot of actors in Santa Barbara it's kinda weird seeing them on T.V. Then running into them and saying something like "Hey how have you been? I haven't seen you since....ten minutes ago on channel 3." They have no idea who the hell you are and while they are trying to figure you out, the fact hits you that you only know this person from T.V. Not in real life..And if your like me you don't have much of a life, it's embarrassing...I really thought I knew every cop show. The Waltons, Little House on the.....? And Touched by an Angel, is all on Hallmark. | |
