| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/3/2009 9:47:08 PM | "Some of the now famous actors who were not well known got their start on the Twilight Zone."
One of the episodes I saw on New Years had this lineup: Lee Van Cleef, Strother Martin and Lee Marvin. Wow!

| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/7/2009 6:52:42 PM | | Lot of times I will watch TV land. We do not have the good comedies anymore like Night Court, Cheers, Three's Company, Seinfeld, Green Acres, and Family Ties. | |

| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/8/2009 1:14:34 AM | Lots and lots and lots of great memories everyone here has brought back!!
One other thing that i really really like that is different now-a-days are movies. I LOVE watching those old movies on AMC...like from the 40's. The men in their suits and hats, the women all dolled up, smoking their cigarettes. The old cars. They all seemed to have slight accents in those movies too for some reason. lol But i do love watching 'em! I remember quite a few years back i was watching something with a young dapper Cary Grant (didnt know it was him tho) and i had to asked my mom who that good looking actor was! lmao I guess he was the Brad Pitt of his day! lol
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/17/2009 4:03:16 PM | I can name several tv shows that i grew up to that me and my dad would watch together.

| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/18/2009 12:59:03 PM | How about this one from the 80's, The Great Space Coaster...lol "No Gnews is Good Gnews with Gary...Gnu" | |

| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/18/2009 3:06:12 PM | "It's unfortunate that today's TV producers and writers cannot come close to recreating the quality of these old TV shows. The current "Reality" TV shows pale when compared to the quality of shows like the ones previously mentioned. Does anyone else agree?"
Go ahead and blame standards. Try to put a TV show like "All In The Family" on cable and youre most likely going to be put on something like late night Comedy Central.
with standards and practices!

| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/28/2009 9:34:21 AM | | Let's remember the old Saturday shows, too: Isis, Shazam, Space Ghost, Shazaan (the cartoon about the genie, twins Chuck and Nancy, and the flying camel Kaboobie - I think there were only 6 episodes in all, but I still had a Shazaan coloring book), Land of the Lost, and The Herculoids. As a child, I wanted to be part of them all. As an adult, well, part of me still does! | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/28/2009 11:22:53 AM | I dont know if anyone would remember this show/cartoon. But it kicked butt! Bobbys World! With the one and only Howie Mandel! | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/28/2009 9:36:32 PM | I well remember Land of the Lost .....only reason to get up on a Saturday morning was to watch Wesley Eure as Will Marshall!!~
Other shows I would love to see reruns of:
H.R. Pufnstuff F Troop Here Comes the Brides Lost In Space Mighty Mouse Pink Panther

| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/28/2009 10:02:26 PM | Howie is from MN and as a native, I always support him. Though his germ obsesssion thing is getting a little too late era Howard Hugheslike..... Going mad from syphyllus Howie?
I've seen F troop dvds in the cheapie bins in the local walgreens drug stores. The sleestack! Oh, that brings back memories. I used to scare my younger sister by acting like a sleestack whn the parents were away.
Stephen J. Cannell was on Tavis Smiley's late night show last and that rocked... he was one of my favorite tv creators.... rockford, A team..... tons of good TV came out of his mind and there are few like him.
I think Pushing Daisies got cancelled. He was my newest hope for good TV writing. Still my all time favs were the detecttive stories:
simon and simon rockford magnum pi hill street blues The Pretender
and as many diehard trekkies who hate it Star Trek The next generation was great and DS9 had some actual balls to its plots.

| Old TV Shows Posted: 1/28/2009 10:49:20 PM | For some reason, I always seemed to like the weird shows that would soon be buried and never shown in reruns. Shows like "Good Morning World", "the Second Hundred Years", "Arnie" and "Captain Nice". The one I liked the most was a show called "the New People". It was about a group of college students marooned on a deserted island. Kind of like a strange cross between Room 222 and Gilligans Island, without the silliness of the latter. The interesting thing about the show was that it was one of only two 45 minute shows in TV history. The other one ran right before it and was called "the Music Scene", hosted by David Steinberg.
About 10 years ago TVland reran "Car 54", and it had to be the funniest tv show I have ever seen. I wish they would rerun it again.
More good ones:
It's about time Voyagers Fractured Flickers Lancelot Link The Good Guys Tales of the Gold Monkey

| Old TV Shows Posted: 3/16/2009 3:02:37 PM | I'm inclined to agree with your premise ...for the most part.
Then again, those were different times. The big three and a few UHF channels.
So sure you had incredible stuff like Rod Serling and the Twilight Zone or Norman Lear and All in the Family just to name a couple. Even the Andy Griffith Show had appeal in an understated way. It would be pretty tough today to pitch a show about a bigot who lived in Queens and say it would be funny yet still address contemporary issues (All in the Family).
Still, Today you have shows like The Simpsons, 24, Lost, etc which can have good writing, be entertaining, and still have a good run for the money. Not to mention the niche programs on channels.
But my understanding is reality shows tend to be less costly to produce. So those types of shows will probably be around for some time. Yet even then, you could say that there are some interesting ones. Project Runway and Top Chef come to mind.
But that was then, this is now. So you watch the things that you find entertaining or you take your time and focus on things that do add value for your entertainment pleasure.

| Old TV Shows Posted: 3/16/2009 4:58:58 PM | I remember back in the 80's we had a local UHF channel that aired reruns of:
Father Knows Best The Monkees others I forget...
I grew up watching either in reruns or when they originally aired:
Leave it to Beaver(the first tv show to show a toilet, it was the episode where Beav and Wally by an alligator, so the boys kept it in the toilet tank, that was the only part of the toilet they were allowed to show)
The Waltons, Welcome Back Kotter, Land of the Giants, Dragnet, Emergency, Trapper John MD, Marcus Welby, Andy Griffith Show, Get Smart, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, Battlestar Galatica(I'll take the original any day over the crappy update), Buck Rogers, CHiPs, Adam-12, I Love Lucy, Angie, Riptide, Simon and Simon, Voyagers, WKRP, Taxi, Gilligan's Island, Star Trek, Incredible Hulk, SpiderMan(with Nicholas Hammond), Eight Is Enough, One Day At A Time, Gunsmoke, Lou Grant, Wonder Woman. The Munsters, The Addams Family, Mission Impossible, Vegas, Ozzie and Harriet, The Six Million Dollar Man, and The Bionic Woman....
Saturday Mornings-
Ark II, The Shazam/Isis Hour, Thundarr The Barbarian!, Space Academy, Jason of Star Command, Mighty Orbots, The Krofft Supershow(Island of Dr Shrink, Bigfoot and Wildboy, Superbuggy, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl)....

| Old TV Shows Posted: 3/16/2009 5:00:47 PM | Since I've been laid off, I have a serious addiction to the Cheyenne and Maverick. I prefer Maverick episodes with James Garner. Roger Moore as a Maverick weirds me out. For some reason, I can't get into a cowboy with a British accent.
I also like the channel with Elvis movies in the afternoons.
*Sigh* I gotta get a job soon.
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 3/16/2009 5:39:44 PM | My favorites were Father Knows best The****Van Dyke Show I Love Lucy Andy of Mayberry and on Sunday evenings either Family Classics or Mutual of Omaha's wild kindom....My mom was a science teacher and we had to watch educational stuff. But it was great. | |
|
| Old TV Shows Posted: 3/16/2009 5:50:27 PM | When I came along my brother was going off to university, so I grew up basically an only child. As such I got to watch shows like the Jack Paar show. Steve Allen, That Was The Week That Was. My parents were academics and didn't allow TV to be on a lot.
As a pre teen coming home from school I would try and sneak a peek at America Bandstand, before my parents got home from work. Never worked since they would feel the TV set to see if it was warm. As a parent, I and my husband were like them. Sans the checking the set to see if was warm.
Mel Brooks and the others from the old Your Show Of Shows, did a PBS special a hlaf dozen years ago, where they noted how TV had changed since the early 50's, when few people could afford a set and those who could were often better educated, and as such, they didn't need nor want comedy routines to spell everything out. But as more people could afford a set, this all changed and comedy for the most part, dumbed down.
Thankfully we now have John Stewart and others who are more like Mels generation.

| Old TV Shows Posted: 3/16/2009 6:33:30 PM | Most of the TV shows I grew up with have already been mentioned. However, I do remember the variety shows that were aired live. Those were a total hoot! Various comedians and stars would be guests and, inevitably, someone would get tickled and blow their lines.
And does anyone remember the Tennessee Ernie Ford Show? My Mom was soo-o-o-o in love with him. I loved to watch her watching him!
This little stroll down memory lane has been nice. Thanks to all!

| Old TV Shows Posted: 3/16/2009 7:14:34 PM | This was a great trip down memory lane. Amazing when you think about it 4 men produced 60% of that content Fred Silverman, Norman Lear, Arron Spelling and Carl Reinart.
Seems fitting on POF to mention 2 shows, one mentioned already was "Love Boat" and the other was "Love American Style". Similar in approach they would track vingettes of stories, LB interwove them and LAS would do 3-10 minute or 2- 15 minute stories.
Let's not forget the movie shows either Saturday's Zacherly's horror movie show and "The Million Dollar Movie".
Great stuff, Bob | |

Lot of times I will watch TV land. We do not have the good comedies anymore like Night Court, Cheers, Three's Company, Seinfeld, Green Acres, and Family Ties.
TV Land used to be one of my favorite channels, but they have gone into the toilet....reality show, movies, marathoning moderns shows like CSI. Even their classic shows are getting edited to make more room for commercials.
