| Making friends in Ireland Posted: 12/11/2008 1:09:08 PM | Hello, and let me hope to strike the right tone with this post.Thank you for warning of the welcome I might expect when I visit with my daughter in August. I've looked forward to this trip for many years, odds are I will never have the wherewithal or time to do it again.Yeah,we make a terrible impression, and sure we are right about everything in the world, but not all of us are Ugly Americans.I work as a train conductorand asked two young Irish girls for their tickets. They both started to unbutton their jeans-to get at their moneybelts as it turned out-did someone tell them we would rob them blind? slan go foill | |

| Making friends in Ireland Posted: 11/4/2009 8:41:08 AM | One of the freindliest groups in Ireland are the motorcyclists. Throughout the troubles catholics and protestants, Irish Scottish and English as well as French Germans Swiss Swedish Australians and New Zealanders and Japanese all got along together especially after a motorcyle race with never any bother whatever.
The motocross guys are freindly to their own but not as cosmopolitan.
Go to any Irish Road race whatever the weather and stick your head out through a hedge to watch the racing and tell the guy beside you waht you think and you will have a drinking partner and a freind for life especially if you show any real interest
The Northwest 200 The Ulster Grand Prix, Mid Ulster, Tandragee 100 are all held on open roads and are y far the biggest sporting events in Northern Ireland so its always a ggod day out. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof just in case.
There is aleways the Isle of Man TT in early June as well | |
