I live in Canada, where people are charged for knowingly transmitting HIV and AIDS. And I strongly support it. But I can't agree with the idea of "branding" people. I think both parties need to be responsible for their health when they are engaging in sexual activity - which means regular testing and using protection.
If we start branding people with HIV/AIDS, we will have to brand everyone with any tranmittable disease...Hep C, Herpes, etc. And what about people who come over from foreign places that carry it but don't get tested over here? Or what about people from here that NEVER get tested, but have it...wouldn't do you much good with them.
Personally, I think that - as I said above - regular testing and using protection are better methods. It's a crime to have unprotected sex with someone without telling them you are HIV+ or have AIDS in Canada, but there also has to be some measure of individual responsibility.
Now maybe some people should be branded with the Don't let this person procreate.
Ha ha ha...or maybe branding women when they are "not on birth control". That would help a lot I imagine. Or how about "will sleep with you and dump you" on some men/women. So many silly ideas! Just as silly as the original. |
