Lets see if this works. BY GEORGE I THINK I GOT IT.

"Is it kind of like the long fingers analogy ? Does the length of ones post equate to the length of anything else is particular?"
sometimes we're just here to be silly.
| Off-Topic Chatter = Vacation / Ticketoride | I kind of figured that when I read the authors opening statement and decided to post accordingly. I'm not knocking tutorials, but maybe that topic has plenty of corresponding threads that have been "done to death" as some posters like to so aptly bring up. | |

... just checking
how many "commands" can be used at once? Like this (Without Spaces) »» [ u ] [ b ] My written Stuff [ /b ] [ /u ]
Then in regard to the "Underscoring", re-edit Post, then replace the [ u ] + [ /u ] Code to < u > + < /u > (No Spaces) before and after the Text again.
The Maximum? ... all of them, with 1 Post re-edit for the Underlining:
[ quote ] [ b ] [ i ] [ u ] Text you are Quoting [ /u ] [ /i ] [ /b ] [ /quote ] |

| Posting in the forums.... Posted: 11/24/2008 10:41:39 PM | Wow ..... unbelievable.... I started a thread about posting in forums and how some posters have very lengthy posts and others do not. I did a search and did not come up with any same topic threads. I was just wondering if there was a correlation between posters that post long posts and any thing else.
How this thread ended up so far off topic is beyond me... I guess if the boss is joining in it is ok ?
| Not Off-Topic. Block quotes play an important Part in long Posts / Ticketoride | Although ticket is right...Some good may come out of this thread in the end. Regular posters can now start using the proper method to post quotes. Wasn't quite the outcome I was looking for but a good one none the less. | |

mo-mo: Yes indeed! Just think how much better we are all getting at posting ideas in a concise, humorous and easier to read for everyone... And what specific outcome were you hoping for. You can re-direct us you know!

| Posting in the forums.... Posted: 11/25/2008 3:17:09 AM | Well if that were to happen in this day of gender equality the guys would want to see inclusion of some measurement of women.
I'm surprised there weren't enough anwers to your question Tyeee... But since men are from Mars and women from Venus perhaps a different form of measurement is necessary here.
For instance, I'd say with adequate posting one can easily observe through the flow of her writing any depth of character and narrow focus of ideas that don't flap loosely from an otherwise fertile mind!
Hope this helps harmonize the hearts...in case there is no hearty singing.... hugs to jou! LOL

Yes, in the forums obersvations of forum postings do give insight not possible from viewing a profile, and thus the forums are often the meeting place where friendships form.
BTW I think your comment ties into the discussion "Your brain - the sex organ" at

Posted: 11/30/2008 3:48:45 PM | | I understand that some topics are hot ones thus causing multiple pros & cons & wordy responses, but most of the time it seems like people just post a bunch of "blah blah I am so great! My opinion is THE opinion! I am so great! blah blah rofl emote typed in 7 times blah blah".... but generally done in 5 or more paragraphs.

I finally understand the need for that 2 in 10 rule, just not sure how and who it applies to? Indeed!!^^^
Post something with substance, other than just one, two or three word replies, then the filter will allow you more than 2 out of the last 10 posts. I have tried this and is still a mystery to my why the system won't let me...yet I see in other threads that some posters get away with posting several times beyond the limit, in a very obvious way...I am confused. Any ideas?

| Posting in the forums.... Posted: 3/20/2009 10:31:31 AM | I prefer shorter posts. I am fine with a few paragraphs, but some people write several hundred words in a posts.
When this is the case, I skim most of what they have to say unless something jumps out at me. If I respect the poster, I will actually read most of what is written, but just as we are discouraged from writing short posts, I believe we should be discouraged from writing long posts.

WAY TOO EASY.......
Ot This is a short post. (Not the author)
****actually it was too short to post, until I added to the post's length****

I prefer shorter posts
I suppose every one has a different attention span That would explain why some important points of long posts are missed and things end up sideways
|
| Posting in the forums.... Posted: 3/20/2009 1:33:32 PM | You can get a point across in a short post just as well as a long post. Verbal diarrhea is a pet peeve of mine. | |

Ask yourself when you receive an email do you like it to be concise or long? Exactly! Life is short.
Unless you are Tolstoy, Shakespeare or some other great author, it is better not to ramble.
I find a long post is okay when it is broken down into sections, such as, quote/comment, quote/comment, quote/comment. . . but when it appears in the form of a blob and the poster has not even bothered to use paragraphs, it just isn't reader friendly. Most POF posters are not guilty of this; however, some of you tend to be wordy and you know who you are and maybe, you have a fan club who adore your posts, so I will just be quiet now and go back to reading War and Peace.
Note: I said maybe they have a fan club (and maybe the club consist of even more than one member - new thought. ) Sorry, sorry, sorry for not being clearer, but I did say maybe.

Why?
I agree witht breaking the massive blob into paragraphs. It is much, much easier to read. You are right! Whenever I see the blob I don't even bother...it's too stressful.

You can get a point across in a short post just as well as a long post that would depend on the subject and the readers/listeners knowledge base of the topic think of it like the fence posts the pasture, if not long enough some cattle will cross and just wander off to crap on your lettuce patch.
but you are right silky, some posts long or short don't have a point at all, in htta case short is best
|
| Posting in the forums.... Posted: 3/20/2009 6:38:00 PM | I too spare myself the eye strain and don't try to read a long post, formatted into one big block of text.
It is regrettable for the author has obviously put a lot of effort to write it.
If you want someone to read your long post make it easy to read... on everyone's computer, not just yours. Different size monitors, display settings, text size settings in a web browser, etc., all impact ease of reading a website.
|
| Posting in the forums.... Posted: 3/20/2009 6:42:31 PM | I can't tolerate when a Poster decides to cut and paste several quotes and then reply to each quote....man that is annoying...and not like anyone is going to take the time to read all of that.
I mean...make your point....don't keep going back to rebutt others. It comes across as so confrontational. Not nice Fishy protocol at all.
anyhow...I should subscribe to this..but I dont...lol... KISS = Keep it Simple Stupid should be the formula unless it is a topic that needs more explanation..or something you passionate about.
just me 2 cents. | |

Alas, the forums are addictive and at times contribute to work-avoidance. Needing to take some time off to push a boulder up a mountain I deleted my profile. However I was unable to resist the siren song that I was missed here, so I came back... and the boulder isn't at the top yet.
Welcome back! Eventually you will shake the monkey of your back. I cannot use POF in my work place, which helps. However, I just bought a Blackberry.
