| Red Deer - February 7th 2009 - Cheers to POFers! Posted: 12/18/2008 2:53:34 PM | I had this weird dream that Feb 7th started off a bit slow, but then it got maddeningly busy. But the band kept being put off until after midnight, which unnerved me. Then suddenly (you know how dreams go) I'm wandering a mall LOOKING for Cheers, and finally found it. There weren't that many people in there, and they were all wondering why I was so blasted late with arriving there. I said "sorry, we didn't get up to play until WAY later than expected." Then I paused and realized what I had just said.
Basically, I debunked my own dream while I was dreaming.. lol.
"Wait a minute.. If we were playing at a packed bar, which is supposed to be Cheers, then... what pub am I at right this minute and why are these people wondering what took me so long to get here?"
lol.

Seven emoticons were harmed in that last post... can anyone top that in a relevant sort of way? lol.
Let's see.. what will this POF event have?
I think all of those are appropriate for Feb 7th's activities...

| Red Deer - February 7th 2009 - Cheers to POFers! Posted: 12/29/2008 1:47:36 AM | That is correct, my friend. No cover charge. You just show up, and be prepared to be social.
I think it should be known at this time, that UNLIKE the regular bar scene, when you're at a POF event, feel free to approach ANYONE. This is what we're here for... if you get shot down, frankly, you're talking to someone you don't want to know anyway.
I have met literally hundreds of people because of POF, and not just for dating reasons. Mostly for good friend connections. This is how you network, and get to know more people.
Sometimes, you walk out of the event with a few good leads. Most of the time, you walk out with a SHATLOAD of new contacts. I can think of a few examples of people who met the right people, and maybe met that person's sister or brother, or cousin, and sparks flew. Voila, you're on the road to happiness.
I am probably going to arrange a "pre-meet" environment for a number of people to gather a couple hours before the big shindig. This time around, I can not host one because I will be busy doing soundcheck stuff and other preps for the night. But I will be looking for two or three people who live in Red Deer, who will be willing to open their homes to six or seven people each, to have sort of a "pre-party." The pre-party (or pre-meet) concept allows the shy people to meet in a much smaller setting. As a result, when you're released to the sea of Fish at Cheers North, you will already know a few people and can take it from there.
There will be some regulars (much like myself) who will be milling about, chatting it up with whoever we see.

| Red Deer - February 7th 2009 - Cheers to POFers! Posted: 12/30/2008 7:06:45 AM | As usual, I'll have a web page with maps and detailed instructions on how to get there from either Calgary or Edmonton. There will also be a list of the usual suspects for convenient hotels (either close by or great price).
I'll post the link when I get 'er done.
