Posted: 12/4/2008 8:30:05 AM | | I know a quite a few people who've been laid off, but the thing that makes it starkly obvious in my mind, is when I'm picking up my daughter from elementary school. It used to be that about 90% of the parents picking up were mothers ... now, I'd guesstimate close to 75% are fathers. | |

Posted: 12/4/2008 8:34:36 PM | I and 2000+ of my co-workers are out of jobs. The plant liked Mexico so much that they built a second mega-plant. Who wouldn't, pay someone $30 plus benefits or $1.50/hr. and next to no EPA and labour laws. If the stats are correct for each of us there will be an additional 7 jobs lost. Let me tell you that community is in a dismal place.
We are OK as we could see the economy turning and sold our house and bought one in Alberta , which some sectors are slowing down as well, still better than other parts of the country.
There is a shift happening that is different from past history. | |

Posted: 12/4/2008 9:42:18 PM | Yup...got canned. Forced out of a job because of dirty politics and backdoor deals.
I was working for a transportation company. But some dirty dealings went on and the company couldn't compete. So they laid off 200+ people and filed for bankruptcy protection. I feel sorry for those that had over 20 years in the company and are now getting nothing.
I wont name any names YVR AND VANOC.
These Olympics are killing off the small businesses. I hope those that voted for it are happy with themselves.
and no I ain't bitter...not in the least. | |

Posted: 12/6/2008 11:27:54 PM | Rockondo....I can confirm that does happen as it just happened to me.
I just got canned a couple of months ago. My replacement was the girl that lived with the Canadian National Distributor. She needed a job, and I needed the perverbial kick in the ***. So the story does have a happy ending....we both got what we needed. This happened on a Friday and by Sunday I had 4 job offers!
Now, life is even better than it was before. | |
