Honestly Mtn.lover I agree with most of your post on the dumbing down of America - I do not agree it can be attributed to just the tattooed as a direct result of such.

I can tell you that for a women I would be considered heavily tattooed - they cannot be seen during working hours for the most part, however while the tattoos have meaning for me that is not why I choose to get them. For me they are covering scars from a violent crime committed against me .. I choose to cover the scars. The people responsible for this crime were not tattooed. So in this case it was to join the masses that I got tattooed - but not the tattooed people. The people whom do not need to explain scars when asked wow what happened to you.

I do not expect your understanding nor want your sympathy. I just wish to point out that their are many reasons a person chooses to be tattooed until you know these do not assume we are caving to peer pressure. SOME do, but not all. For the most part the tattooed representatives of this site whom have posted are more articulate then those I believe you are referring to. And if you read the last 13 or so pages of this thread you will see that the Pro side of this argument also agree with you regarding those that do it to fit in, those that get the same old same old design and those that get them done lightly without much thought.

There are exceptions to every rule.

As for the 50% of the men I have alienated, I am ok with that since I only want 1 not some 250billion.

I am totally in love with Lostgirl's mind, temperament, attitude, intellect, and personality. I AM unattracted to her ink, and the fact that she smokes.

I finally figured this whole thing out. It's whatever you are USED to; what you grew up with.

If your parents had ink, that would look normal and acceptable to you. Conversely, if they didn't, and people around you didn't, then it looks strange.

Please consider this when posting comments and opinions. Try to identify. This goes to the inked, and the not.

Just because a person wears a lot of ink doesn't make him/her a seed bag. It's his ACTIONS. Just because a person's skin is clean and clear doesn't make her pure. If a person has pierced every piece of skin in his/her body, that doesn't make him bad. Maybe he's screaming for attention, but so what.

If you don't want to hire someone because they have colored their body, so be it. But I hope it's because you are concerned with the effects on your business, and not because you have judged the person.

Stereotyping is very easy and shallow-minded. Accepting a person for his choices, on the other hand, is hard to do. There are MANY things I don't like a woman to do to her body, such as cut her hair terribly short. Does that make her BAD? No. It just disqualifies her as a candidate for me. I'm sure she will find someone that doesn't MIND, or even LIKES that. The point is, not everyone is a perfect match for everyone. How boring would this world be if everyone looked and smelled the same? But we all have to get along, and that is the bottom line.

Now if anyone is still reading this snoozer of a post, thank you.

Hardworker, that was a good post and I agree that Lostgirl is no doubt charming and intelligent. With her smarts, she also knows that my comments aren't pointed at her or her circumstances. I like anyone, knows there are exceptions to every rule. However, I do know the general rule. I'm not posting on this thread to be nice or ugly, but to be blunt, to the point and make a few think before they run out and marry into a lifestyle before they are old enough to even know the surprises life could have in store for them. This isn't like the hippy days of the sixties where you could clean the pot out of your pockets, get a hair cut and go to work on Wall street. These young people are making lifetime commitments to something that doesn't just wash off with water. They are not mentally able or ready to make choices of that magnitude at 18 or 20 years old....sometimes 30. The adults around them do little these days to discourage them from such actions. There is a twenty five year old artist here recruting these young kids in by the hoards. I see no difference in this, than a drug dealer. Taking advantage of young minds to stuff their pockets, while leaving his victims to deal with the consequences later. This kid of a neighbors comes home at eighteen with his arms covered in Satanic shit and now he's a 23 year old Jesus freak that wears long sleeve shirts all summer. You can change your mind but not your skin. I see girls already that have grown up and realized that a face full of furniture tacks just isn't that cool and can't get a job outside of a car wash. They removed the metal junk, but these once beautiful girls now look like they were shot in the face with a scatter gun. One very beautiful girl was so distressted over what she did to herself as a kid, has made two suicide attempts. This shit needs to stop, it's going too far and somebody needs to realize that you can't influence young people to butcher themselves up and leave them with scares that last a lifetime. It's funny when you consider thirty years ago, nobody had a face full of metal or ink and nobody missed a damn thing but grief. Talking about how important this crap is in your life and how your social interaction revolves around it is total bull shit. You must live in a very small bubble. I guess that means if you were grown thirty years ago before the tattoo and piercing craze, your whole life would have been a total nothing....give me a break. What's done is done, but you parents setting this for an example to your kids need to be thumped on your noggin. I ask previously for someone to sell me some tattoos and give me all the great advantages and positves, but I haven't heard a damn thing yet.......makes me wonder if you know why you did it yourself. So.....ink up and poke holes in your face,....just don't sell your kids on how cool you are. that's all I've got to say about it.

tattoos are more than a simple artistic expression; they are a statement of a person's attitude. I will not be impressed by tattoos of any kind on your body. I will think you are a trailer-trash by-product and treat you as such.

I will not be impressed by tattoos of any kind on your body.

That is acceptable.

I will think you are a trailer-trash by-product and treat you as such.

THAT is not. That is harsh, and uncalled for.

Please walk up to a person whom is sitting having coffee, elderly sleeves rolled up and you a tattoo on their arm. It is not that of a flower, a dragon, a symbol of any sort. It is just a number ... Tell that person knowing the origin of that tattoo that your unimpressed and feel they are trailer trash.

Yes it is an unwitting tattoo done to them - but it is again, a tattoo. Since you choose to speak in absolutes, this case would hold true. You could stand in front of a holocaust survivor and look down at them, instead of treating this person with respect and possibly a little bit of empathy.

Personally I only treat people as trash if their words and deeds speak that of them, in the case of your words above it is tattooed on you, just not with ink, yours is permanently marked in ignorance.

From Post #2520:

For me they are covering scars from a violent crime committed against me .. I choose to cover the scars. The people responsible for this crime were not tattooed. So in this case it was to join the masses that I got tattooed - but not the tattooed people. The people whom do not need to explain scars when asked wow what happened to you.

I can understand this the same way I understand a man who drinks whiskey heavily with his amputated legs rather than take his prescribed medication! WHY! He trusts Jack Daniels more than he does the Medical Profession doping him up. The Man Never drank til his amputation that I speak of. So It's just a preference of self medication or bending to the accepted vanguard drug world of pharmacy control and dollars!

But even with knife/cut scars or burns couldn't you have opted for plastic surgery in the same vein as a woman after breast cancer and a removal of a breast opts for an artificial breast or wears a bra that makes her look more natural rather than tatoos that appear in vogue to the apparent 'trash culture'?

I realize there is a great cost margin and most insurrances WILL NOT cover cosmetic surgery for vanity reasons even if in your case it is equalizing the damage in appearences from wrongs done to you! But why not use this option rather than appear trendy!

It's like there are some very influential Indians on reservations in public office, they drink at home, in the closet, because they don't want to be a bad example among their people whom some have great alcohol problems; despite their own behavior!

So....I have been on here for months and begin to wonder why I do not get responses to my numerous initial messages. Demographics... I figure...THEN...This almighty forum!! All I can say is WOW!!

I have been tattooed since I was a young man...suppose I am just used to them by now. I don't really see them anymore. I do somewhat respect the opinions on here. But some of you people......come on now. My mamma always told me "Son, if you don't have something nice to say...it's better to say nothing at all." Anyway...all of this negativity toward tattooed people, IN MY OPINION, is plain silly. We are all different. Humans are all different ...whats so difficult to acccept about this fact in life? Choices my friends....

Personally, tattoos don't bother me at all. I hadn't dated someone with tattoos before until last year and met a woman who dressed gothic, had lots of tattoos and piercings. I chose to look past that and got to know her, and she was amazing.

She was into Christian ministry and had devoted her teenage life and her future to working with troubled gothic kids. She worked hard to reach out to them, showing them that it was okay to belong to a church and that people there would care about them. She dressed that way to be accepted into their groups and worked hard to help them with the problems they were having. Sadly it didn't work out between us, she moved away to continue her work in other cities but I learned from that to never, ever judge someone just by how they dress, their tattoos or piercings. I was already pretty open-minded but I learned a lot from her.

Why not give women a chance even if they have tattoos. They use their bodies as a canvas and sometimes it is for sad reasons like the posts above but it doesn't make them less of a woman, I think most tattoos are beautiful (most). It's dating, not instant marriage and if it doesn't work out, you learn from it and continue your journey, hopefully a little wiser and with a good lesson.

I personally don't think it's the tattoo that makes a person looks trashy... Could be that I have some myself... So I'm bias.. I think it's more how you present yourself... Knowing that I have business meetings to go to at times.. I made sure that I chose a spot that I'm able to cover it up if necessary... It's only seems trashy because of the way the person that has it carries themselves... or some people are too quick to judge.. Ignorance, I tell ya... And as far as of people I don't know on a personal/professional level.. I could care less... They don't support me in any way or pay my bills... So... yup I could care less... If you don't like it... uh.. Don't look! hehe

not fond of them-often those guys who have them have spent time in jail, where they're quite popular, or, they ride motorcycles, which I'm also not interested in. Besides that, I prefer the natural look of a guys skin. If you have one withj no bike and a clean record, dont slam me-there are exceptions to everything of course!

That's nothing but a stereotype, on both counts.

That statement may have been valid about forty years ago; not so much today.

I've never done time and I've never been a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang, nor has anyone else I know that has ink.

I can understand someone saying they don't like tattoos on someone else, it's a personal preference, but that statement is pretty ridiculous!

I think the "art" is ugly and the colors are garish.

If I want to tell the world something, I'll wear a tee-shirt. That way when my opinion changes I can wear another shirt!

I'm not a fan of tattoos... I personally wouldn't get one, but I wouldn't judge anyone else for getting one. It's their body.

I believe that tattoos were once to express a person's individuality, but with the growing fad in the last decade or so, it's no longer about individuality. How many girls do you see with tattoos on the small of their back (affectionately known as tramp stamps) or the back of their necks. Various asian writing, words along the arms. Arm bands that once had the connotation of an ex-con. It just seems that there are people getting these things without much forethought simply b/c it's the in thing to do.

Thankfully they are always progressing with the practice and are slowing coming out with ink that can be broken up with lasers that will slowly work its way out of the skin, for those who've changed their mind in later years about their tattoos.

I am 42, got my first tat after 30. It didnt take long and i was hooked on em. . I have been under the needle now about 12 times. Both shoulders and capped and i want more.
Sure that it turns off the clean cut, wholesome, goody guys. But I am so not into them anyway. I am not attracted to men without ink. And when it comes to ink size matters.

I'm pretty ambivalent about tattoos. I don't have any myself and don't want any. Some people look good with thier tattoos. Some should have sobered up first.

It really depends on the tattoo, what it is, how big it is, where it is, and the girl. There are some who look truly awful with a tattoo, or with it's location. There are some girls, on whom the tat the have and where it is just works...if anything, it adds to their sexiness. A small tattoo somewhere unobtrusive is never going to bother me, and even a sleeve, sometimes, can be hot.

I love tattooes, I personally have ten of them, but you would never know it if I didnt show them, I did not get them to please anyone but myself, and they are tastefully placed. Also, I tend to date men that have them also, I guess it is a personal choice, but at 41, I still think they are HOT!!!!!

This leads me to one of my standard complaints, not just in dating, but in the tribalism that seems to be rapidly building in society as a whole. Rather than basing compatibility selections on things like, well, being compatible, more and more, it seems, the tattooed only date the tattooed, and so forth. It just seems another example of society dividing itself further and further into small niches, and clinging to them desperately, to it's own detriment.
