what is everyones opin on tattoos? Page 116 of 125    (85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118, 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125)
Tattoos have never been my thing, personally.

I don't judge women who have tats. In fact, I'd say 90 percent of the women I take out on dates have at least one visible tattoo.

The only insight I can give to anyone on a dating site, is that from my perspective, people who get a lot of skin inked have very little concept of anything long-term. I'm saying beyond the impact of inked skin for 40 years --- they seem to forget about retirement, their kids' college, and a lot of other long term plans.

-- That may seem to be an unfair assumption, but I'm not talking about people who get little cartoon characters on their ankles - I'm talking about the ones that endure multiple hours in the chair and burn entire 'shirts' of ink on their arms or backs. I compare that to people who smoke a lot - they refuse to deal with what their long-term impact will be, and they dump an lot of money into it until it becomes a habitual part of their lifestyle.

Also - anyone who wants to tattoo a picture of someone's face on their body - I would strongly advise against it.
1) If the artist sucks at drawing - you got a permanent mistake on your body.
2) If it's a picture of your kids as babies, they grow up.
3) Your skin is continually changing. Any picture that looks good now WILL get distorted over time and require frequent fix-ups - either that or it will look like a zombie face after a few years.

Tattoos were really cool, dangerous and rebelious back in the 70's-80's. Now they are very common place. Lets take a look at what makes tattoos so cool and what the psychology of the modern day tattoo seeker. First off back in the hunter gatherer days...people had a place in their village. Celebrations were held for instance after the first kill. The youngster was now considered a man and an important provider for his tribe. We are missing that important tribal acceptance in todays society for the most part. We dont have the old "rites of passage" such as the first kill celebration. Thus I believe the vast majority of people getting tattoos are seeking some sort of acceptance through the "naughty" tattoo or "cool" tattoo. Unfortunetly going and getting a tattoo is an easy way to get this psycological fix, but the tattood has actually earned nothing and will soon want another to get that feeling again. Of course there are exceptions to this, but I agree with the originator of this post. I believe it makes a woman or man look cheap to get tattoos and makes me wonder about his/her living in the subconcious.

Tatts are great if they are put in places that can be covered up at appropriate times. I am shocked at women putting them across their chests, or ankles and places that you can not cover up when needed.
Men that put on their necks and faces or fingers. We are always changing our likes and dislikes. Tatts can not be removed easily and until they can one should be always thinking of the future and what changes they might go through.
What is cool today might not be tomorrow.

I am not a fan of tatoos, but I have learned to look past them. i have none myself, but if I ever do get married I will have her name tatooed to replace the wedding band. I stopped wearing rings long ago after a friend climbed a fence and lost all of the skin, tissue and muscle off the finger. Not a pretty site.

I think tattoos on a man are attractive. I dated a man for a short period of time who worked a white collar job who had a complete shirt done - it started around his collarbone, went down his arms, and ended at his waist - and neither his colleagues nor his clients would have known unless he had taken off his shirt.

I currently only have one tattoo, a line of music from Beethoven's 3rd Movement of Moonlight Sonata around my ankle with a small bow on the back that goes down either side of my Achilles tendon so it looks as if the music is tied to my ankle. I work in a professional capacity and frequently wear skirts to work and my tattoo hasn't offended anybody yet. I also have several body piercings, none of which I wear to work.

I really, really don't like tatoos. I don't understand the fascination. But then again, I am a bit or a nerd. . .

I guess that makes me a old-fashion if I don't want tattoos on me and I think they are discusting on men or women. Not to mention all the people who got them that got diseases, (hepatitis C or worse).

I have a young friend who lost the love of her life in the line of military duty. She got a tattoo wrapped around her ankle that looks like his dog tag chain with the dog tags drawn on the top of her foot. It looks incredibly real - and tasteful - the only thing I worry about is that she keeps dwelling on that past relationship and can't seem to move on, even though it has been several years. She's still in her 20's and I worry that the tattoo keeps permanently reminding her of something she needs to let go.

I realize people like to memorialize friends and loved ones in tattoos, but just how healthy is it to have a permanent reminder of a lost love that is literally on you every day for the rest of your life?

I am 30 and I find tattoos to be a huge turn off. Big or small I think they are ugly and childish. Do they look cool? Yeah kinda. But you'll gert bored of it someday and you'll be 65 years old with a giant tattoo, no thanks.

Its one thing saying you're old fashioned and don't like tattoos. However, saying everyone who has one has a disease....Hep C or worse is a bit of a stretch of your imagination wildlife...and certainly far from the truth.

I have 1 so far. Granted there are artists out there who are not clean, be it tattoos or piercings.....but there are many who are required to adhere to a sterile environment. The guy who does my work is the only one I will allow in the states to work on me since he is an award winner and completely knows what I want when I describe something to him. I don't have something everyone else has, therefore it is custom. Its also artwork. My sister and her hubby told me tattoos are disgusting and gross. I showed them what I got....and they were shocked and saw how it can be art and actually like what I have....although they would never do it.

I would not take the word of a tattoo artist on whether their needles are clean. Just look what happen to Pamela Anderson and her ex.

Have you ever been in a tattoo shop? There are obvious signs of a sterile environment and whether the needles are clean or not.

Pam and her ex have nothing to do with a blanketed statement of whether something is clean or not.

Tattoos are a great fad nowadays and look good on some, but terrible on others. Too much tattoo that has no meaning definitely looks retarded. All it says is, "everyone is doing so am I". But tattoos with meaning are okay. Sleeves are losing it's appeal as more and more people are doing it, even soccer moms.

It does look better on younger people than older people, but remember they are going to get old too.

I do have to admit a 40 year old woman with lots of tattoos does make her look ten years older, or dried up and put up wet. On the other hand if your skin is a leathery like most women in cali and florida then tattoo it up, it won't make it worse.

I saw this guy for awhile(turned out to be a massive lair and cheat),was cheating on his new gf with me.
Anyway, when I saw photos of her I was shcoked!,she was 49 and had about 6 visible tatts.Shes a biker chick.
He had a couple of tatts himself but it blew my mind that he would be interested in me.I have no tatts and from her appearance Im everything shes not.
A lot of tattoos on an older women I think looks so tacky. A couple of small tasteful ones can look ok
Why people want to cover themselves with them,I dont get.
Cheers

I have one on my left bicep. It is crudely done (looks like a jail tattoo, but isn't) and it has aged terribly. I would love to get it removed someday, but will likely have it covered or touched up. I don't care what others choose to do with their bodies.

Granted, I found this thread when it was on page 116 and I only read the first post but I'll throw my opinion into the fire...

I don't see the point in it myself. I have never found anything that I cared enough about that I would want to emblazoned on my body for the rest of my life. If I had kids maybe their names because they would always be my kids and I'd love them no matter what but anything else I care about just wouldn't make a good tattoo... lol

I don't have a problem with people getting tattoo's I just think that for me to get one, it would have to have a lot of meaning to me. I don't particularly like the look of a girl with a lot of tattoo's but somehow, Danielle on the TV show American pickers is kind of hot with them.

Some guys will see a girl with a bunch of tats and immediately form an opinion based on how she looks. I tend to look at more of a whole person concept. I've seen incredibly beautiful women who I didn't find sexy at all and I've seen very average girls who were incredibly sexy. Its as much about attitude and personality as it is looks. Tattoos can add to or take away from those traits. It all just depends on the person.

With that being said though, That tattoo may be really cute when your 20 but when you hit 40 it might not look so cute. I went to a formal diner a few years ago and my boss showed up with his wife. She was a very attractive older lady. Looked very classy in a beautiful red dress. Well, she looked really classy until she turned around and you could see the rose on her shoulder which had started to sag badly and the tramp stamp that wasn't quite the same as it probably was when she had it done 20 years before...

As for men with tattoos, I actually like seeing a dude walk into a place with full sleeves, and neck and face tattoos because I know that is a guy I will never have to compete with for a job...

I have seen alot of women over age 55 with tattoos that are wrinkled and messed up. The skin changes over time due to UV and skunlight damage. You couldn't even make out the one tattoo a 65 year old woman had at the grocery store the other day.

I have 1 tattoo myself which unless I have my shirt off you can't see, and I do want 1 more but when I was in santa cruz to surf and consulted a parlor right next to the beach how much my idea would cost me it was way way over budget. I think a well thought out tattoo is really cool. Just getting one so you can have one really isn't. I hunted for tattoo's for years before I even got my first one. A well thought out tattoo is art and is a peek into a person's psych, but most just get tatted cause its a fad and don't really think about truely what will be on their skin forever unless they want to pay the bucks to remove it. This one I think is really dependent on the person and that tat. I have seen 1 woman overly tatted that for some reason I kinda thought she was sexy, but I think that had more to do w/ her persona and smile. I feel it's supposed to be very personal and only for public display if you want or looking for someone to appreciate your mind.

I have 2,got one done last week, one on each arm,Celtic design on my right upper arm, which I had done about 15 years ago.
And just had the Anglo Saxon god Tiw,flanked by 2 wolves,on my left.with Strength,Honour,Loyalty and Kinship in Anglo Saxon.
Tiw was evoked in battle to bring strength and courage, his Rune was also carved on warriors swords .
Saw the image for the first time last Tuesday, which happens to be named after him !!
Was on my arm Friday afternoon.
Have 2 more pieces I want doing, both pictures an artist friend drew me,I need to find a tattoo artist competent enough to do them justice though.
I like artistic tattoos, not just random stuff.
Have a girl friend who is covered, and they look amazing

That sounds awesome bobbin! Picture?

My first is a yin/yang in the form of a dolphin and shark....with it being loose and surrounded with water. 3 years later and the colors have never faded. I showed the artist last summer when I took people in there and he was smiling huge because I've taken such good care of it....and we also discussed my other ideas.

Here you go..

TIW
This image shows the Anglo-Saxon god Tiw with a wolf like creature on either side. This image of Tiw was found on ornately crafted jewelry from the Sutton Hoo burial. He is possibly the oldest of all the gods worshipped by the early English. From the god Tiw we get the day Tuesday as well as many place names scattered across England. He was the god of war and was worshipped and evoked during times of battle. Tiw lost his right hand through an act of bravery and thus his symbol was said to evoke honour and courage. He was the protector of all warriors, but was also said to watch over the disabled, and the left-handed. His runic symbol was stamped onto swords and other weapons to give them strength and to guide their users hand.
