Hmm..perhaps the thought of that much pain just tilted my desire to get one on the small of my back to the "no" side. Just kidding, I am still thinking on it, I think tattoos look beautiful on the small of the back.

I think ink is a personal preference and that if you don't like it, you should not enter a relationship with someone who does. Because they may get more than one but less than a hundred. I guess the same could be said for piercings, thus significantly augmenting your personal preference of not liking ink.

I find tatoos, expecially on young men or young women, as repulsive as the piercings in the face or belly button. I see no reason for anyone to get one, except to be rebellious. I was in the military and tatoos were for the old salts who were alcoholics. Sailors got tats when they went on liberty and got drunk. I see large spider tatoos (8") on the ankles of young men and say "what are they thinking?" I won't say exactly that getting tatoo is a sin, although I lean in that direction. I am very traditional. I see middle aged women with big tatoos and they look washed up.

I can't stand tattoo's on a woman. That is one fad I'd like to see eliminated! Rebel or retard is the question.

I don't care how old or how young the woman is but when they get a tatoo on thier lower back thats just around the waist line (thats reasonable in size) its always always sexy. Having a tatoo in that area is so darn attractive. Thats about the only place I can think that makes a girl look sexier.

I saw a girl with a HUGE tatoo in that area where most girls get a small one. It went from hip to hip on her lower back. I didn't have the heart to tell her it looked awful so I told her it was interesting. But ladies if you do get a tatoo in that area, don't make it look like it was a 2 for 1 special on ink at the tatoo shop and get the huge ones!!! lol

I have seen a selected few tattoos on women and think wow that looks good. But, for the most part I appreciate a woman who nothing but her own natural skin to show. When you are well over the middle age hump..no tattoo on a woman is going to look good. Never been tempted to get one myself.

call leen said a good future in tattoo removal! i laugh at that , because if you study the art that is taking over the tattoo industry, you will see art that NO ONE in there right mind would want the beautiful art, that is being produced today ,removed, and i specialize in cover-up tattoos, so i hope you open your tattoo removale office near me, because i will cover-up the tattoos that you think your going to get rich on, and for way less than what removal costs!! i have talked numerous ppl into covering the eye soar that is ruining there looks, and lazer surgery leaves minor blemishes, or nasty scars when done improperly. So watch the cheap shots toward our industry, it is not taken lightly. And it isnt "so called "art. People who dispute the fact that a tattoo is not true art, lets get these flower painting hippies to see how they would like to do a form of art that will put your ultimate skill to the test, without NO WAY to erase, or throw out the sketch and start over. Regular every day artists in general cannot handle that sort of ARTISTIC pressure, they dont have the balls for it, thats why we have the (to quote someone again) so called tough guy image. tattoo removal, how about making an islam removal office, do something , NOT so stupid!

I have a tattoo on my shoulder, and I love it, just wish I would have had it where I could see it.

It was a Winter Solstice gift from my children.

The tats are okay. I just can't stand the fact that most folks get the exact same things in the name of "being individual".
Girls get dolphins, butterflies and turtles in one of three places, the small of the back, ankle or bikini line.
Guys get tribal or barbed wire? What tribe are you in? Barbed wire, with those arms?
More like chicken wire.

It's a personal thing, but seems to be a lot more about trends than true expression.
I wanted to be covered like the RHCP's when I was 20, but it just became too much after a while. To me the statement they would make was so diluted by folks looking to fit in.Suddenly the people I was hoping to distance myself from were covered.
Every time I designed something I thought was remotely cool, I'd see some idiot with something similiar. So now, the scars are my only body art.

Electriccrayon: you could make a killing in my town between divorces and other artists
muses/mistakes.

I have collected my artwork for more than 30 yrs. and my skin isn't all wrinkly. I have had tons of compliments on my artwork. I am not a biker chick, and I am not trashy. I love art of almost any kind. My tattoos have meanings for me and aren't "dolphins", etc. Tattoos are fads to some, but they can't be all that bad as almost everyone I know has one or more. I have over fifty of them and am told they are "sexy" all the time. So lighten up on people who choose to adorn their body with tattoos. Its really none of anybodies business but the person wearing them.....

Every once in a while I will see a girl with a tatoo that I think is kind of sexy. Most times though I am with the Old School crowd that thinks they make a woman look cheap. Guys too. I saw this guy at the grocery store the other day with a shaved head and tatoos all over it. Where do these people work at and how do they get hired?

I saw a young woman maybe 21 or 22 the other day in the smoothie store. She was wearing very little clothing and showed no visible tatoos, only beautiful silky, slightly tanned skin. I almost approached her to tell her how great it was to see a woman of her age without all the art on her body but I decided against it as she probably would have thought that I was a perv.

ElectricCrayon how is my opinion on getting tattooed a cheap shot at your industry?

I know people with tattoos and people who tattoo. I am not saying outlaw tattoo parlors nor am I using hate messages against an entire group (an industry or a religion).
I did say that I can appreciate some of the work I've seen.
If I see one I don't like, I don't feel compelled to launch an attack on the individual who selected it and thinks it enhances their appearance.
I am also aware that not everyone is happy with what they got and I think that you made the same point when you said that you have convinced a lot of people to come have you correct a tattoo as opposed to having it removed.

i have talked numerous ppl into covering the eye soar that is ruining there looks, and lazer surgery leaves minor blemishes, or nasty scars when done improperly. So watch the cheap shots toward our industry, it is not taken lightly.

I said I thought there was a bu$ine$$ opportunity here. I do not think you are offering to do your cover-up work for free.

Your closing statement reminds me of how permanent markings have been used to identify the members of, and to encourage and/or teach hate toward entire groups of people.
But that is your suggestion, it was never mine.

My opinion remains that the body, in it's natural state, is a work of art. As the saying goes "I may not know art, but I know what I like".

Personally love mine, strategically hidden under my work attire. People are genuinely shocked when they find out I have 4. I think they are extremely sexy given they are not vulgar. But to each her own.

To me this makes a woman look cheap, like a cigarette does when I see a gorgeous woman light up.

Depends on the tattoo and how it is situated. "Fu ck the Queen" emblazoned across a woman's forehead would likely turn me off. A rose on the ankle is another story.
Any tattoo that was created by it's owner or has some sort of personal significance to it is by far the sexiest of all tattoos. Someone with a brand name or sports logo inked into their flesh is a major turn-off.
My best friend got a tattoo in high school as part of an initiation in sports. He was reluctant to get one so he chose a Disney character and put it on his hip so it wouldn't show. My respect for him dropped slightly for a time after that since I simply couldn't understand the point.
Personally there are two tattoos that I would like to have done and these have a very deep meaning and lasting value to me that could never change no matter how long I live or what I choose to do with my life. They are the family crests from both branches of my own family.
I can't get them done right now but at some point in the future I think I will.
I think a young woman considering pregnancy or a guy who thinks he might bulk up should give tattoos a second thought and possibly hold off on it for a while - I've seen some badly distorted tattoos that just look unsightly.

on the left side of my abdomen. It's not big and can only be seen when I want it to be. It was a sorority stunt... 27 of us went to see Jimmy Buffett and got tats on the way there. So I'm biased on the subject. And after three kids, I have no stretch marks at all, so it's still lovely.

I think one or two small tats are vanity. However there are some people who use tattoos as a way to hide from the world and themselves inside their own skins, IMO. I'm writing a paper on the subject as we speak, btw, and never realized how many religions and cultures use tattoos an an important part of their society.

Tribal bands on a guy is just damned sexy... no bones about it. But he must have the arms to wear it.

If I had it to over again, knowing what I know about myself now, I would not have gotten it, though I don't really regret it, either. I've considered having it removed, but then I think since it can't be seen, wouldn't I rather spend that money on braces for the kids? But I've forbidden them to get any until they are legal adults. There are some kids here as young as 15 with tats and that is irresponsible IMO.
