There are so many firsts that can never be duplicated...I just can't see having the best ahead of me when there are so many "bests" already behind me...which again isn't necessarily a sad thing in my opinion...it just is.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean oldsoul....I have thought about all those "first" many times over the years...and shared some of those warm memories. My daughter loves to hear the stories, my first crush, my first kiss....how I met her dad, what it was like falling in love for the first time.

But some of those firsts, you just don't share.......like my first orgasm, which like you wasn't the first time I made love, it didn't happen for me until I was in my thirties ...But it happened, better late than never.

My philosophy is the best is yet to be every single day. The best was yesterday, but today can be even better!
Sounds a little Pollyanna I know, but if I don't adjust my personal attitude about each day's chanllenge then I have already lost the opportunity to seek the best.

Reading this thread over, I'm reminded of at least one "best" that I mostly experienced later in life....and that is the kinship or that kindred spirit "feeling" that I feel with my "older" sisters and brothers.

Just reading some of the words above made me feel "understood"... some (most) times, it's not important (to me) that people agree with the way I feel or see things or that they try to find a solution to my sorrows...some (most?) times, I just need to hear..."yeah, I know"... ya know?

So thank you guys:)

Gawd...I'm getting all mushy and I can't even blame it on PMS (that too is behind me:)

I don't know how I could sit here with an incredible, amazing, full, long life lived and actually say "the best (on earth) is yet to come".
There have been too many things that just can't be topped.
And I honestly don't mind.
I'm not going to confuse THIS day by thinking the best hasn't happened.
It almost tries to make my memories not worth what they really ARE worth.
I'm with oldsoul on this one.

still to come. I have been through my worst and come out the other side, tempered like a blade of steel. I have backbone and strength of purpose and know what I will let go by and that which I will not. My daughters are grown up, happy and gainfully employed and a credit to me. My divorce hurt but only as it seemed I had failed - yet when one is doing all the giving and the other is doing all the taking, it is not equal and some one is bound to get hurt and feel a failure. However through all of this, I have learnt and perservered and got on with my life knowing that if all I had to depend upon is me then so be it. Karma has been good to me as I have been to others and I am certain one day I shall meet my other half and be fulfiled and completely happy. Until then I strive to be the best I can be and hurt no one and go along with a smile on my face. Sandra.

Still to come. Always.

I have a rich full life out here and I'm enjoying it. There's more yet to come and I'm going to live it! Love every minute of it.

It ain't over, til it's over.

Sounds sappy, don't it? I don't care.

My first best is married and doing well, my second first is serving in the army and my 3rd, first best is currently in bootcamp. (My kids)
This being said, My current and future bests are defintely to come.

My overly optimistic attiutude only accepts the best to come. This comes from my life and lessons thus far.

I take life moment by moment, day by day with my dreams propelling me forward.

My saying that I don't embrace the today/now thinking of "the best is yet to come" certainly doesn't mean NOT living like this:
There's more yet to come and I'm going to live it! Love every minute of it.
It ain't over, til it's over.

I think a whole lot of good is yet to come.. is happening even right this moment and will continue to happen every day.
But "the BEST is yet to come"?????????
The BEST????????

The thing of it is,you never know. oldsoul, you have some very fond memories of the things that were the best for you.

But you just never know what will happen next, same for you maeflowers. Someone may come along and rock your world, it happened to my dad at 70.

I also have some beautiful memories of the past,I have seen and done some amazing things and been to places that will take your breath away.

But tomorrow ,something might happen to make that all pale by comparison.........you just don't know. And that's what's so groovy about it(yes,I said groovy)

I'd like to think that my best is everyday. For me, every day is about the celebration of life. Do I mean that my life is perfect? Hell no, but I live it to the best of my ability. I'd like to think that what I put into life is what I'll get back. Therefore, I believe in putting in my best.

Yesterday is history...tomorrow is a mystery. That is not to say that I don't look forward to it!! In fact, I tend to agree wholeheartedly with a previous poster who says that my past is what has brought me to this point in time...both the good and the not so good aspects of it (the past).

Life has handed me more lemons than roses, tee hee, but I am all for living it to the fullest, learning something new every day. Even when I don't realize it, lol!!

Life is for living, not for worrying about the mistakes you may have made in the past.

I think if the best is yet to come then you never get there.

Well said. And practical enough for an INTJ/capricorn like me to comprehend ;-)
I should try to remember these words more often.

Good question.
I would say both behind me and ahead of me. In my youth I had qualities and traits that made me the best for that time. In my current years I have age, maturity, wisdom and peace. So I am at my best now for where I am.

If only I had a crystal ball.............but in my heart I know that it can only get better. I've had a great time so far.

Trying to top that will be a challenge but I KNOW I CAN!

Yes, the best is yet to come!

Ready to hit "RESET".

I have to believe that things can only continue to get better...otherwise, what's the point?

I don't have the body I had in my twenties...which is probably my only regret....Other than that, I'm good.
Cheers

CynthiaM hope you have gotten some good comments you like.

Here I sit listening to Sinatra's Duet2 CD and there is the song, The Best Is Yet To Come which says 'out of the tree of life I just picked me a plumb..you came along and everuything started to hum still its a real good bet the best is yet to come the best to come, babe wont it be fine you think you've think you've seen the sun but you havent seen it shine Just wait until the warm up is under way....'

I am a sappy optimist whose glass is half full not half empty. Never a victim always a survivor.Never say never type person. See hope where others see gloom and doom. Make lemonade, lemon pies from all those pucker your lips lemons. Or the kid who wishes for a pony for Christmas and is found shoving the muck and straw in the stable, and when asked what he isdoing, says he is sure there is a horse in there somewhere.

Now where did I put my shovel?
