Wrist bands / glow bracelets, do you want them?

Along with that statement above ^^^^^, this one
I think we are all putting a little too much emphasis on the environmental concern. Yes. It is good not to be wasteful but at the same time we are talking about a few glow braclets

are pretty scarey statements for the year 2008.

I ask all of you who have stated "it's JUST glow bracelets", "it's JUST once in awhile", etc, etc,,,,,, Do we/you know basic mathematics?????? One of the reasons we are where we are enviromentaly is because of statements like the ones above,,,,and the actions that go along with them.

With today's information of what has/is happening in our world, would it not be wise to start doing the "little things" as one person out of millions????? We all have an effect on what our children will have to face in the next generation, but it seems to me that some are not "getting it" even when we are being shown (almost daily nowadays) of what our past actions have resulted in.

We can all do our part, but of course if it's for your own personal enjoyment, I'll apologize to you right now. Because of course, it's ALLLLLLLLL about YOU, and YOUR enjoyment. It starts with the individual kidlets, but of course, if you place your enjoyment over the rest of us,,,,,,,,,carry on.

Don't worry about it thou,,,,,, the old long haired hippies of the world will be make everything all nice and peachy for everyone.

Pretty scary? Dude, it is not going to end the world...

Do you drive a car?
Own a computer?
Shower in the morning?
Flush your toilet?
Turn on a light?

Well you are harming the environment. Oh... But let me guess. The things you do dont hurt the environment but the things we do are harmful. Get off the soap box.

You make it sound that if we are not all environmental nazi's we are wasters. I am willing to bet my waste is a fraction of what yours is. So what if I want to use a plastic glow braclet. Once your waste is down to zero then come talk to me.

and this...

What a pompous arrogant thing to say. No one here is being selfish. With the possible exception of you.

Problem is that is not the question. So it is not so simple to answer.

The question is should people be forced to wear them. I answered no. No one should be forced to do anything. But I do think wrist bands or glow bracelets are a good idea for this type of event.

Do I want them? yes
Should I be forced to use it? no

2 different answers depending on the question.

I don't know how such a simple topic and question of some concern, made by our OP about wristbands can be so blown out of proportion, with so many arguements about it, with ONLY a few ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS to the topic.

Big And Tall, I am going to repost your topic for ya again, and let's see if WE, can get some ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS to your topic, THIS TIME, by keeping it ON TOPIC.

Ok, here is our OP's original topic posting:

"It has been suggested that the use of these items is harmful to the environment (as they will end up in a landfill releasing possibly harmful toxins later, not to mention the cost of energy to manufacture and transport them) and some members do not want to wear them because of this.

What are the alternatives?

Should members be forced to wear them as a condition of attending an event?

Please post suggestions."

The glowing wrist bands are a good idea.

WHY????

PROS:
1.) They effective identify, WHO are, and WHO are not POFers, at an event.

2.) Since SOME of the events have such low lighting, they are easier to see in these low lighting environments, because of the wristbands glowing properties.

CONS
1.) The glowing material that these wristbands have in them, are toxic, and are an enviromental hazard to the enviroment.

Ok, so what are the ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS.

1.) DO WE, continue to use these glowing wristbands???????????
2.) Are people comfortable wearing them at events???????

If so, and since these glowing wristband properties inside them are toxic, and a hazard to the enviornment, when dumped at a landfil from your chucked out garbage.

Then can these used glowing wristbands be returned to the to the manufacturs, to be recycled, and reused.

If so, then can a deal be made, to get a discount on purchases of new wristbands, when the used wristbands are returned for recycling.

If not, and WE decide to continue ot wear these glowing wristbands, then instead of chucking then straight into the garbage, BURN them first, so that WHEN they reach the landfil, the toxic properties inside these glowing wristbands won't have as much of an enviornmental effect on our environment.

All they will be, is a burnt, charred mass of useless plastic, with the toxins GONE.

Should we decide NOT, to use these glowing wristbands, THEN WHAT, IS, our WORKABLE ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION, to these glowing wristbands.

Ok, let's try and work TOGETHER, and STAY FOCUSED on this onm thate now, and HELP everybody else out, ESPECIALLY OUR Event Hosts, and Hostesses FIND A WORKABLE ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION, to the concern at hand.

Big And Tall, I think that we did have a dedicated area at past POF Events before, for JUST POFers, with signs pointing to that area.

Did we not???????????

Is that still a possible, WORKABLE ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION, that is still available to us, that WE can present at any future POF Events, rather then having to wear glowing wristbands.

Once again, it is another thought to resolve the concern at hand.

I much prefer the glowing wristbands, but, am open to newer ideas, that WILL resolve the concern at hand of glowing wristbands.

WORKABLE AVAILABLE SOLUTIONS IS the KEY!!!!!!!

So that WE, can go PARTY and have some FUN, FUN, FUN, and meet new people, and former aquaintainances, at these events, instead of always bickering over these things.

Of course we then have the honour to to reciprocate when you permit the freshly-tagged POF guest and return the favour.

The question is where on your person will you put the cross-hairs?

I vote Glow bracelets - especially at an event where the general public is also attending (Moquito Creek, Firefighters Club and all the other dances held at local pubs/bars)!!!! They are the easiest way of identifying who's in the POND. It doesn't matter what angle you are looking at - you can see those glow bracelets. (Name tags/pins etc can't be seen unless you are looking directly at them). I would never go up to a stranger in a night club/bar/pub who's dancing on the dance floor and just start chatting up a storm with them for no reason.....but I will if you have a glow bracelet on - because I know you are there for the same reason as me, lol!!! If you don't have a bracelet on - well then I probably won't talk to you which is a shame because I just missed making another friendship! We all have choices - hosts won't force you to wear the glow bracelets - so it's up to you - it's your choice.

To all the hosts who continue making our first experience a good one with glow bracelets- Koodo's to you!!

And mountain lion1 didn't you know that bs isn't recyclable?????

As a newbie, and having been to a couple of events now.. I really like having something that identifies the pof'ers... whether it be fishie tags or the glow bracelets. At least then when I come alone, I know where everyone is that's in the same situation as myself, and as someone who is kind of shy, seeing the bracelets helps me to approach people.
An alternative to the glow bracelets might be some sort of reflective band that some cyclists wear. It snaps around your arm, wrist or ankle. Whether they'd work at the Tudor House or any other place, I don't know. The light level might be to low to reflect, but it's an idea. The host(ess)'s could gather them up at the end of the night, then re-use them at the next event. btw... these bands last for years with the proper care.
Maybe I'll check it out at the next dance I get to.

Perhaps the real answer would be to form a coalition of people with differing views on the use, non use of glow bands. That way all sides might get to have their agenda met.

We could have them stand at events and tag people as positive or negative on the subject. Once their views are known we could then have them followed all night with a sign proclaiming said views.

Do you think the coalition should be appointed or elected?

When your original post includes such gems as...

Do we/you know basic mathematics??????

Yes, so mature. Much better than calling someone dude. Questioning peoples knowledge in basic math is different how? Oh, that is right. It isnt.

but it seems to me that some are not "getting it" even when we are being shown

Getting what? The Earth has for millions of years gone through heating and cooling periods. I suggest you educate yourself and look at the real science. Look into the main causes of CO2 emmisions. Check into sun spots. The only thing different today is the cycle has accelerated. Is it caused by humans? Well we dont know that yet. If you have real concerns for the environment go after the real polluters. Those wearing glow bracelets dont need your sermon.

Because of course, it's ALLLLLLLLL about YOU, and YOUR enjoyment.

All about who? Me? What did I or anyone else type that gave you that impression? We are selfish because we dont rail against glow bracelets? Again, get off your high horse. I dont need you to micro manage my do's and dont's. Take care of your own and ill do the same.

As for your next post of drivel. I will call you whatever I like. What does the word dude have to do with intelligence? Do 'smart" people not know how to say it? Or what it means? Sure they do. Only those who feel they are above others would judge a person off of a word. The "old long haired hippies" was your comment. I just repeated it. Why leave it alone? Please tell us what wonders the hippy community has done for us and where we would have failed without them.

seems democratic process doesn't work
hence
appointed dictatorship produces results

suggest we inject glow fluid color choice according to mood, gets every one focus and cuts out a lot of necessary
like
oh you're red hawt....
oh you're blue cool....
oh you're green..... YIKES algae growing???

Good lord, that's all we need, is another coalition.

As if it is not bad enough, with the federal leaders duking it out, and here we are duking it out over WHAT, a simple little item as a glowing wrist band???????

Big And Tall, a simple solution to the problem,!!!!!

"HAVE" the glow wristbands availabe at the events, and as POFers come in, ask them if they want a wristband or not.

Simple enough.

If they don't want one, then that is their choice.

However tho, as First Lady suggested, if I don't know you, and I cannot identify you, then don't expect me to walk up and start chatting with you.

So, if ya want to be identifiable, then what is such the big deal, of wearing a glowing wristband just for the evening, that will alow people who don't know you, to beable to at least identify you.

Good lord, it is not like you are "MARRIED" to the darn wristband, until death or divorce do you apart.

Ya can bet your boots, I will be wearing one, at the next event, that I go to.

NO IF's, WHEN's orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr BUT's.

Because, I want to be identifiable.

Mountain lion 1? ^^^^^

A perfect idea, injections of glow chemicals for each and every attendee....

I will do some research and get back with possible non-toxic injections....

What level of research do you feel would be ok for use in humans? Can we get them without animal testing? Are the effects temporary or permanent and would anyone care?

Fromm what I have learned so far the injection site would be the main draw at POF events....OH what visuals come to mind!

VVVVV You put it around your wrist? Hmmmmm I didn't think any man still did that?

Well now I definitely know where I stand on this debate now.....................

I usually take it when offered and seem to discard it shortly thereafter,
as the feeling of a too tight plastic ring around my wrist is not all together to my liking...

To each their own do or don't and let the others be.....
