Posted: 12/25/2008 9:46:46 PM | I don't know about "no-one" answering emails but it is a shame that modern internet etiquette does not bear much resemblance to "Manners" that we were taught as kids!
I guess that its "easier" to ignore a message than to reply to it, but a bit gutless, and thoughtless. On the other hand...I got a contact from a lady once, I read it before going to work, then did not get in front of the computer till a day or so later. When I did I found a quite nasty email telling me what a stuck up ***hole I was for not even having the decency to reply. I did reply, with my explanation and a clear indication that the lady wasn't my "type" (My Mum was a nutter, so they are not for me!) but with the absense of body language and facial expression, we have to be quite careful that we do not give the wrong idea, or just as importantly, take offense where none is meant!
Norel...why not put your name in for the skills builder on 17th Jan, will be great fun and excellent ground-work for new bike/riders.

My bike is here and will be registered next week and then I'm off to ride solo around the place seeing as you guys have got the skills ride and newbie ride all taken care of. | |

As Tony said earlier, might pay to be just a little more patient, I noticed the time difference between you making a post to get a ride, and the above statement, was just over 4 and a half hours, I would be amazed if some people even look at there emails daily at the moment, let alone every coupla hours, ya just gotta give them a bit of time etc. | |

I would put other names against riders, but I don't know what a question mark means. If your one of the "?" riders...why not state either "Pillion available" or "No Pillion required"
Every ride I have been on with POF there have been empty pillions...My own perspective is that although I may have a preference for some of the ladies, whom I know are good pillions, I would not say "NO" to anyone sill.... keen enough, to ride with me. I can see your point about the "getting picked for sports" analogy, but in reality there is no line up, or chance of being the one that nobody wants, left standing at the start point!
In the end, we all do what we think is right for us, but I reckon it would be a damn shame to miss out on a fab day (they always are!) for fear of humiliation that is exceedingly unlikely.
Hope that all the ladies turn up, and have a top day out.
And you know.....I have not been long in the "dating" scene, but I can relate that us guys tend to feel that we are not always in the best position when making advances to women. There is a fear of rejection and humiliation, probably disproportionate to the real risk, but nevertheless there! Thats just the way it is! I appreciate that the bike rides can be, but are not necessarily a "DATE" per se, but if you never go....you'll never know! | |

Anyways enough said on the subject as I'll be the one who gets the boot, which was probably the desired result in the first place

For your information I had e-mailed others in regard to going on this ride prior to putting my name down as I was confident I would of had a ride but it fell through so do not presume you know what I have been doing and in what time frame I have been doing it in...... Instead of your childish games you guys are playing why not just PM people and say you are not welcome instead of the public crap you have gone on with with myself and Ronda this would have been my last ride with you lot anyway as I said in post I have my own bike now and once registered next week will be solo riding . | |

I can't believe all this, Tony was plainly trying to do the right thing and after being told of his mistake, he publicly and openly apologised !!! As for the 'Old Boys Club" comment, nothing could be further from the truth, otherwise why the threads constantly ask for pillion riders, if you mean, that some of us have become good friends, I'm afraid some of us are guilty of that, but then most of the regulars take pillions on most rides, so maybe the "Old Boys Club" should be changed to a "Peoples Social Club" but wait a minute, isn't that what POF is ???
And as for Norel saying

Anyway, on a lighter note, I have spoken with the owners of the Grevillia Store earlier today and they will have themselves ready for us on Sunday, Roast dinners at $10, Roast meat Rolls at $6 plus Burgers, Fish and heaps of other stuff.
The weather forecasts are improving and looks like another awesome day out with friends, for some fun, good company and the ride of course.  | |

I have my own ride, but sometimes like just relaxing in the back possie, so I can daydream.
I did message someone and ask if they would mind.. the response wasn't immediate, but it was there. Its a shame that posts slanging what appears to be a very friendly, amiable, and helpful group to newbies.. or forum readers.
I know a couple of the regulars on these rides, and from what they tell me, and what I know of them, the group in general must be a pretty wonderful bunch. Every now and then personality clashes happen, its human nature (and something I deal with every day in my work), but its the weekend, its throwing a leg over and enjoying one of the most amazing pleasures there is in life...
ok, thats it.. again I know I don't know you, and there will undoubtedly be some who comment, but from the outside looking in, comments like some of those above, don't encourage newies they discourage... and that quite frankly... sucks | |

If you don't enjoy the rides, just don't go I guess is the easiest way. It's a choice.
As far as the "old boys club", well I guess a lot of the guys on the ride are getting on a bit...I'm 45 Ronda, how old are you again?.....Just asking to see where the "old" part comes in.
I like the fact that as we get older we also enjoy the same things in life and don't have to start wearing slippers and playing lawn bowls(although I want to have a go at barefoot bowls....does that make me old).
NotWilted, I have to agree with Barry's comment......It's OK to go on these rides to get a ride on someones bike, but the minute you get your own bike we're not good enough to ride with???.....Aren't we "cool" enough or something. You have a preference to cruisers, which is your choice, and there seems to be a great mix of cruisers and sportsbikes on these rides, even to the point where Barry has set different routes along the way where cruisers can enjoy cruising and sportsbikes can enjoy some twisties. What's the ssue here?....And as a person with a cruiser preference, I can only presume it's the cruiser guys who have "snubbed" you as you would never ask to get on a sportsbike anyway.
Let me just make one suggestion NotWilted.....Wear good protective gear. I realise the openface helmet and the leather vest is cool, but as a learner I think the best advice I can give is you WILL come off at some stage, it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when, and you will appreciate your leather jacket and full face when you do.
Bike safety starts with safety gear.
Does anyone really consider the bike rides as a dating thing?....I just tought it was a day out with no stress.....Bugger, will I have to wear a flower in my top pocket and make sure my hair is straight???......Oh hang on, I don't have hair, and if I did it would be helmet hair anyway, so no point stressin' too much.....And the only foliage in my pocket seems to be when I misjudge the corner and end up in the scrub...LOL
As Ducati Girl said, it's a just a day to get your leg over and enjoy the day the way you like to enjoy it. Why does there have to be personality crap thrown in.

I'm not sure some realize how hard it may be for others to step out of their comfort zone, not just to ride with some obviously very experienced (and no doubt full of helpful tips should one be interested enough to listen, not to a lecture, but to a little guidance), but with a group in general, so consideration when making comments about the obvious helpful nature of some, should be considered carefully. You dont make those people look like they've overstepped a mark, you just make yourself look a little foolish. No rider plans to come off, ever, but most do, at some point, and as a rider, theres a respect and comaraderie with other rides that just seems to comes naturally, (sports bikes and cruisers unite) and we all know (or will know at some point) when you're down, its those same people that will be there to pick you up, it doesnt pay to burn them.
So I'll see you all.. one day... in the meantime.. ride safe | |

As for getting a ride I will just turn up at the meeting points and see if I can get a ride from there, it is the way I have always done it. I have never been left behind and even though I haven't been on a ride for quite a while, I usually have more than one choice of who I will ride with. I don't think there is any need to put a lot of stress into the situation by absolutly having to have a ride organised before you step out the door, I prefer to take things as they come. ( but that is me)
The only reason I am not sure if I am coming or not is because I am not sure whenther I want to leave my kids or not. If I come I will be turning up at the first meeting point and seeing if I can organise a ride from there and if not I will be driving to the second meeting point and seeing if I can organise a ride there, if I for some reason can not get a ride I will consider driving my car along with you lot ( as it used to happen), other wise I will make the most of the situation and go to the beach while I am down there,,, kid free !!! LOL.
Oh yeah as it being a dating thing I also have never really seen it as that more of a socail event where you can meet new people and have some fun and for me experience something that I may not have experienced if it wasn't for some of the wonderful people who offer their services by taking me as a pillion, I love it , I love the freedom that a bike gives you, I just need the rides to happen on a day that I can make it.
