& Namaaahahaha, you are a tease... telling me there ARE actually some products that work but not what & how

Sorry...thought it was a general question. Ummm, OK...secrets revealed...Ayesha face mask from Lush gives this amazing fresh look (only for a few hours, but they admit that), a moisturiser from Lush called 'Gorgeous', Supersmile toothpaste (the only whitening toothpaste I've ever found that actually works, can be ordered online), and Clarins Extra-firming concentrate. And actually I'd throw a 5th one I forgot about that I use occasionally so a tube lasts me for years...Lancome pure focus t-zone for the greasy/open pore parts, on its own or mixed with foundation if you're going out. (Lush are proudly cruelty free and Clarins and Lancome are on PETA's 'doesn't test on animals' list.) Lordy now I feel like dressing in pink and and painting my nails...might have to go change the mower oil or play with the chainsaw or something to shake off the girly germs.

Hey, by the way, someone told me that Botox just paralyzes the muscles it comes into contact with... is that true?... Doesn't it feel strange?... What if you wanted to give someone a growly look?

Yes, often people assume it's a substance they use to plump up the skin...but that's more collagen and restalyn etc. Botox you get injected into certain muscles to stop those muscles wrinkling up the skin. When I have had the frown lines between my brows done I can't do growly looks, and yeah if I try to frown it feels a little weird cos nothing happens. But it actually (when you're not trying to frown) gives a feeling of relaxed lightness to your forehead area and over time, the muscles get used to not frowning so you just don't do it. It also helps lift the eyebrows...but you can still move your eyebrows. See...

Getting lines around the eyes done is a little different because you mostly use the muscles around your mouth and cheeks to smile, so smiling feels the same...just that it restricts the muscles around the eyes moving up in sympathy and so the crows feet at the side don't appear when you smile, and the lines underneath the eyes can be lessened.

If you went overboard and had every facial muscle injected you'd end up frozen-faced, but Like Hilly said, you can make sensible choices in consultation with your doctor. It takes about ten minutes to get done with a really fine needle in select spots, depending on what bugs you most. Each jab stings a little for a second, and the effect kicks in within a few days. It's meant to last about 3 - 6 months but it seems to depend on your metabolism. I get my crows feet back within 2 months and I put up with them til the budget allows me to zap 'em again.

Doctors also use botox for non-cosmetic reasons...to treat drooping eyelids, facial tics and twitches, muscle spasms caused by cerebral palsy or a stroke, muscle tremors, voicebox tremors, migraines, vision problems, over-active sweat glands...and believe it or not, to treat anal fissures caused by childbirth. I guess then women can look their best from all angles?

Personally I like to have the growly look botoxed on.....dear me have you learned nothing yet??

I heard somewhere that Callendulla(?sp) is really good for your skin and keeps it kind of young looking. So I went and bought one for next year with naked firemen on it.

Wonder if I have to rub my face in it or something??

But that hasn't been the case elsewhere, and there have been several deaths of children in the United States after they were administered Botox injections. Most of these children were afflicted with Cerebral Palsy. The FDA has noted that in its view some of these deaths may have been hastened by the injection of too much Botox.

The FDA also notes that Botox was never formally approved in the United States to treat limb spasicity in either adults or children, and was not approved for children under 12 for any reason.

botox injections may cause brain damage.
http://www.healthjockey.com/2008/04/04/botox-injections-may-cause-brain-damage-study/

Botox disrupts nerve signalling by targeting a protein called SNAP-25 that helps carry neurotransmitters. To test whether it could affect nerve signalling elsewhere in the body, Caleo's team injected rats with botulinum at various points in the face and brain and tracked its spread by looking for fragments of SNAP-25 destroyed by the drug.

2008 latest research on botox..fda announcement .
http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2008/NEW01796.html

however the good news about botox is because it disrupts nerve signals, it could be 1 day used on inoperatable brain tumours.. it also can have side effects with certain medications.... theres lists available.. especially heart medications/certain antibiotics..etc.... not to be used when pregnant nor breastfeeding.. studies show possible links between foetus development/deformity and possible miscarriages...

Public Citizen analyzed FDA data on Botox from 1997 to 2006. Among the findings: 180 patients developed life-threatening conditions after being injected with Botox, with 16 deaths and 87 hospitalizations. Four of the deaths occurred in children under 18. The injections of the neurotoxin, which is used to induce paralysis at the wrinkled area, apparently also caused paralysis of the respiratory muscles and dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), leading to pneumonia and fluid in the lungs.

Additionally, 658 cases of patients having adverse effects to Botox were reported. Because these reports were voluntary and came from the makers of Botox, they are estimated to account for only 10 percent of all cases

Great research Soulmate, and I hear what you are saying. There's always associated risks. Sorry if it came across that I was trying to make botox out to be the shining star that will save humanity...that wasn't my intent. I just thought I'd mention that it has also been used to help people with medical problems and with some success, rather than just being used to get rid of wrinkles for those of us who wish to keep signs of age at bay a bit longer.

180 patients developed life-threatening conditions after being injected with Botox, with 16 deaths and 87 hospitalizations.

Just some general comments in regards to the issue of risk you raised......and I'll keep them brief and general so as not to take this off-topic...
In the US in 1980 there were more than 800 cases of toxic shock syndrome (and 38 deaths) from using tampons. There's an acne treatment still on the market that has been associated with 431 cases of depression and 37 suicides. Vitamin A supplements increase the risk of death in healthy people by 16 per cent. A 24 year old Australian woman died this year from side effects of her contraceptive pill. I guess when you start to look around your realise there is not much they throw out to the market that comes without risk.

Anyone deciding to try botox for either medical or cosmetic reasons would certainly have to do their own weighing up of the risks and benefits. For me personally, I have had no adverse effects from botox and I like the anti-aging effects. To each their own.

The Callendulla probably works like a face lift, ie it keeps your eyebrows raised.

^^^^ I in noway wish to offend you or anyone...or imply that... honestly that was not my intent in any form..
and agreed...
every drug..etc has side effects... and the risks/ benefits should be weighed up...
and im glad you have had none....
some peoples systems/immune etc are different.... and i was just giving the recent studies on some of the muscles, like near heart/neck etc that have caused problems...

without going too far into personal details... re medical field/ etc... and seeing results...(not from botox)....
I know medical can make mistakes and i cant help but be cautious.. check out risks.

in no way, do i wish you offence.... but i would hate some desperate mum with a child with an illness, not check out the possible consequences..from new research , thats current.

and im sure you would pass this info onto anyone you cared about if you knew they were considering using the acne treatment... i know i would.. simply because anyone i cared about id want to know any risk..

and lastly what are your 'Anti-ageing secrets'? What have you done or used to try and prevent ageing and has it worked?[/unquote]

disclaimer..i know this chit, but i dont do it.. hence i look old/like chit.. yer im a smoker. in my defence i took it up/addicted very young.. so knew no knowledge of effetcs.

1.Dhea is your youth hormone. the body naturally makes it, but only at certain times of" night"/sleep pattern... it responds to bio rythmns that occur naturally in universe/nature/therefore effects human biology. if you miss 1 night of these hours/sleep.. you donot create dhea within yourself.
it cannot "naturally" be replaced.. for eg.. if you miss 1 night of creating it.. you can never catch up on it.
it can be tested through pathology, (blood test) to see your levels.
decades ago, a synthetic dhea was made and many rich people injected it..( into blood stream...it was very exspensive)
im not up to date with current studies , nor long term effects..of synthetic dhea.
anything synthetic introduced to the body has side effects... every pharmacutical has side effects..
theory would be.. that nature provides these things in a complete, snyegy/package to take 1 part and disregard the rest, creates imbalance.

2.besides outside stressors.. the biggest stress you place on your body is digestion...
ie your body self heals.. when your digesting, your body stops everything and goes and digests the food... so theres certain people who only eat a certain amount of calories.. seeing their body much like a machine.. where if its overused/constantly digesting.. it cant preserve/heal as much.and wears out quicker. so by cutting calories they look younger/live longer.
i forget their name.. nor have current studies on if their theory extended their life.

3. every cell lives is surrounded by a pocket of water/moisture... imagine a grape... the seed the cell, and the plump, moist fleshy bit encased in it as the protective package... now imagine a dehydrated grape=sultana.. dry shrivelled up...
so the 2 litres of water keeps cells protected/hydrated and healthy.. ( for eg if you are risk of cancer,, keep hydrated to protect cells).
grape juice/red wine has anti oxidants.. ie the body reads colour and the deeper the colour the better the anti oxidant... so yes studies prove.. red wine (not white) does help antiaging... but so will red grape juice.... dark sweet potatoe..etc..
for cancers/skin etc dark green leafy vegies help.
most cells are formed every 3 months.. so what you eat/drink/exercise etc now will effect your new cells in 3 months..cells also need oxygen, so exercise helps pump that through.

4. the immune system... has to fight alot of stuff everyday... it has codes/links that can penetrate it... 1 is aloe vera..(as someone stated earlier)
it has a code in it that the immune system can read.. and can help fight any diseases.. it also is a vegetable, containing heaps of needed/vitamins and minerals..(over 200)
once again certain synthetic vitamins cannot be read by immune system or body .. and can be toxic..or useless.

5. with aging... the ability to absorb nutrition can decrease... you can also get this function tested by pathology.
a way to counteract this... is to take about a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar..in some water.. taken with meals.(must be from a mother plant, which you can see within the bottle)...
this helps absorb nutrition.. not only that its known as an anti aging product..
6. the body should be ph alkaline.. ours rarely are and with modern day living... our bodies spend alot of time fighting toxins/preservatives etc,...
you can research alkaline/ash foods. effects on health.. the theory is disease cannot live in an alkaline .. enviourment... for eg... aids virus cannot live in lemon juice.. also lemon juice in water drank on first waking.. will aid liver (the chemist of the body) with enzymes, to function at peak condition, helping lose fat etc..weight loss and process all toxins etc more efficently.

6.. every 7 years you have a new skeleton/biology...
so as someone said rapid aging in 40s?.. well. you will see aging every 7 years.. seems like its quick.. but its not. check out the age of 49.... people you know..
to keep skeleton young you need calcium/magnesium.. if you keep skeleton healthy it will help hinder other biology aging..

7.sleep... see dhea youth hormone..info

8.your only as healthy as your arteries.. so good cholesterol, will help with aging..(good olive oil)

9..you have a biological age and a real age.. for eg.. someone can be 40. but by pathology/health actually be 60.. someone 60 can actually have the biology/health of a 40 year old..
theres a website you can check, realage.com

10. for woman.. our hair/skin etc changes as our hormones do every month..
as we age we become oestrogen dominant... oestrogens protect our bones etc when younger.. but when older... taking the pill.(for eg...synthetic oestrogen, has to be stopped in cases of breast cancer etc as it will cause it to spread more rapidly...so whilst younger if aware you can balance these hormones. for later life/aging.. as we become oestrogen dominant through menopause etc it increases our chances of things like breast cancers...
progesterone .. needs to be kept up... to keep youth/protection etc...so yep balancing natural hormones can help the aging process.
anything you put on your largest organ.. your skin will be absorbed... if you peel a clove of garlic. place it against your foot. put a sock on.. within half an hour you will taste/smell it on your breathe.. thats a great lesson in knowing whatever you put onto skin will be absorbed.. its also great for immune system or a flu.
so soaking feet in very hot water with white vinegar will help alkaline your body.. will also help with headaches.. etc..
peace

If you want to know the Truth to aging and death then find The Holy Bible and read Genesis from beginning of Chapter 1 v29 through to chapter 2 and 3. I know many here will not believe in what I have suggested but I believe it is the Truth. The only way to over come your fears is to Give your life to Jesus Christ in which your life came from in the first place.Doing that wont stop you from aging or death but Jesus will give you a peace about it all. Not like the peace in this world may I say but Gods peace and I know for a fact that your heart may not fear any more if you choose to follow Christ.

Hilly "That so is not going to help my frown lines"

can't have that so a friend passed this on for you ; )

.. oooh before I go.. I have a great one for keeping your calves great... drive a manual car for at least two hours in peak hour every day (crawling along constantly with right leg stretched for the brake, short sharp move to the accelerator and back to the brake, and left foot constantly pumping the clutch while you change from first to second back to first.... I noticed this was having beneficial effects hehehe!

but back to my friend's two cents worth.. her take on 'aging' gotta let you relax those frown lines if nothing else!

Theft Problem. IMPORTANT MESSAGE:

You've heard about people who have been abducted and had their kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves?

Well, my thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs. It was just that quick. The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine? I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans. And then the thieves struck again.

My bum was next. I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear-end to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier. But my new arse was attached at least three inches lower than my original! I realised I'd have to give up my jeans in favour of long skirts.

Two years ago I realised my arms had been switched. One morning I was doing my hair and was horrified to see the flesh of my upper arm swing to and fro with the motion of the hairbrush. This was really getting scary - my body was being replaced one section at a time. What could they do to me next?

When my poor neck suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a turkey's I decided to tell my story. Women of the world, wake up and smell the coffee! Those 'plastic' surgeons are using REAL replacement body parts -stolen from you and me! The next time someone you know has something
'lifted', look again - was it lifted from you?

THIS IS NOT A HOAX. This is happening to women everywhere every night.

WARN YOUR FRIENDS!

P.S. Last year I thought some one had stolen my boobs. I was lying in bed and they were gone! But when I jumped out of bed, I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept. Now I keep them hidden in my waistband!

......note to all.. this is not me.. i just lashed out for an all over tan so I can wear tiny little summer dresses this summer - if only to show off my kick arse calves

"...the natural process of aging, which according to Dr. Wiggs Dannyboy, is so unnaturally cruel that only man could have ordained it - neither nature nor God would stoop so low. " ... I hate the fact I now struggle to read small print if the light is low, rather than bounce I 'transition' from supine to upright from bed in the morning, certain joints crack alarmingly at the least provocation and my vertical leap is inversely proportional to fear I have ankle tendons snapping....but then when I consider the alternative...

Im the sad one in the shops who see's the beauty product that claims to be anti-ageing and it has to go in my trolley.
.....Nothing you can buy in a jar will stop you from aging It's a natural process and cannot be naturally stopped.

What have you done or used to try and prevent ageing and has it worked?
.....I turn 50 tomorrow
and I don't wish to have my birthday so I'm going to skip it so that I can remain in my 40's for the rest of my life...I'm hoping it works!
Seriously though I think our fashion sense plays a huge role during the aging process. Who wants to wear a tent dress at age 40 like I have noticed some women wear? Clothing styles DO age people appearance wise.
My only anti aging advice is never use soap on your face and always use a body moisturizer.....my 95 year old client does this and she also colour coordinates her fashion. To look at her one would think she's in her mid 70's!

^^^^^I agree Hilly. Hanging around the oldies does make a person feel young! To think I am just over half the age of the client I showered today! She is 94 and three quarters!
soulmate08...Thank you for your happy birthday to me.
I think to stay young a person needs to be young at heart (not stupid young, just young).
It's a bit like how we treat our children when they go through puberty. We need to be on their level and not turn into some old fogey who is being a parent and not a friend.

Would someone define 'getting old' to me,
I've been getting older since I was born.
Some days I feel like a twenty year old,
other days I feel like the rocking chair
Is about as exciting as It gets!

I am active, healthy, and look positively on every new experience. There are not enough years left for me to do all the things I would like to do.
I feel like I have about 20 years of active fun times left, before 'age' creeps in to my bones and stops me from physically doing lots of the things I enjoy - dancing, long, brisk beach walks, bush walks, motorcycle trips, camping, travelling etc etc etc.
Aging? Its a fact of life!
The Serenity Prayer keeps me up with it - God.... to ACCEPT the things I cannot change.......

In addition to trying to keep fit, there does seem to be evidence that along with exercise, eating well and avoiding consuming large amounts of alchohol and smoking, doing things that exercise the mind is important in avoiding degenerative diseases of the brain such as Alzheimer's disease and Dementia. With old age in contemplation, we should note old age will not be a good thing if lived in senility.

Personally it doesnt bother me,but i have a friend that keeps saying im going to stay young forever.Trouble is i asked him a few years ago about it and he said `im gonna be 22 forever` then recently he told me `im never gonna get older than i am now(27)`.I was going to burst his bubble, but i thought he doesnt know it but he is just being happpy with his age.

I think everyone ages at a different rate, not so much physically but more health and body wise.If you get two people that live the same lifestyles and do similar things it will show later when one starts getting aches and pains ten years earlier than the second.I really dont feel my age, when i think about it i feel im in my early to mid 20`s.Im not trying to its just how i feel. But im getting grey hairs on my head here and there.Go with the flow.My woman loves me and im cool with myself. So lifes good.

Ahhhh Naamah you are indeed a remarkable, informed & witty woman... thank you for going to all that trouble to explain... this is better than "New Scientist"!!! I LOVE knowing more... probably causes more wrinkles from squinting the fine print but you know... part of getting older is losing the brain cells so If I pack em in tight an interesting collage might be left!

can't do growly looks, and yeah if I try to frown it feels a little weird cos nothing happens. But it actually (when you're not trying to frown) gives a feeling of relaxed lightness to your forehead area and over time, the muscles get used to not frowning so you just don't do it. It also helps lift the eyebrows...but you can still move your eyebrows. See...

I DID love that little eyebrow icon (they can be a bit of a pain, but used sparingly they are quite endearing those little things... icons... eyebrows also I spose!...) Yes, but no growly looks??? hmm how do you keep the young children at bay & the barnyard functioning without a growly look here & there... beats yelling... can do with out the frown, & the other bit sounds like a substitute for an hour or 2 of meditation... or perhaps that could be the alternative... Ah but I bet they don't call you Naamah for nothing. Still... I can't say I'm inspired to get that little jab or 50... even though you put forth an interesting & enticing perspective... & what a gorgeous woman (yes I peeped... actually peeped before since I am ever so addicted to Julianx... well, there's the Briz gang really)

Oh by the way... harking back to the wine brigade...
I hear drinking red wine is the elixer of youth & also good for you - so just dropped into the bottleshop to stock, stock, stock up .....ooops hiccup
...... I reckon if I come up there we should all get together & swig a bit of fermented grapey stuff... & discover the secret fountain of youth ... wooohhoooo.... (til the next morning, hope you have the Botox on superstrength for that... but then how will people know you have a hangover no growly looks, you'd have to speak... ouch!!!!)

I guess then women can look their best from all angles?
... Indeed, as we should... Bravo medicine (there's a whole new topic in that one)..

Ah but I have asked Julianx to post a thread about the terminology/use of "Lady" or "Ladies" that I struggle so with sometimes... come on Julianx or I shall have to find out how to do it on my own... & since I am a big suck, averse to offending people that might be a tricky thing for me. I'm dying to hear what people think about it.

Cheers
