| How do you really feel about getting old? Posted: 4/15/2009 3:31:02 PM | I've heard that you can steal youth and beauty by removing the heart of a young, beautiful woman and eating it. Not to worry. Now if it was the heart of a young innocent female polar bear you'd be raising a few eyebrows.

Not to worry. Now if it was the heart of a young innocent female polar bear you'd be raising a few eyebrows. Human or bear....if I told it as a factual story, replete with ritual chest-beating and transparently self-serving justifications for cruelty, then I'd hope it would raise more than eyebrows actually. Like the cruelty imposed on live tigers when they have their penises cut off and are left to bleed to death just because there is some antiquated belief that eating tiger penis will "make a man out o' ya". Not sure if you are able to see the difference there, but when it's true, and there really is suffering being imposed on a sentient being, it's not remotely close to being funny. But hey....good on you for being so motivated by caring about bears...which I am sure was your only motivation in writing that post, because it's obviously something that you are just so passionate about.

| How do you really feel about getting old? Posted: 4/16/2009 3:03:29 AM | Many years ago I was watching a noon day program and there was this guy who at 104 and spritely was being interviewed and yes he had proof of his age.
This old timer smoked like a steam train, drank like a fish and ate all the wrong foods but when it was pointed out to him his so called bad habits his reply was that he had been doing these things before it was fashionable to label them as bad.
Unfortunately he died 6 months later, not because of the "bad habits" he had been partaking of but by a surfboard.
He decided that at 104 he was going to learn how to surf, unfortunately he came of the board and as he resurfaced a surf board from another dumped surfer hit him in the back of the head killing him..
The moral of this is, Don't learn to surf at 104 years of age because it will kill you.

I know a once professional surfer who tried to re-enter competition after growing past his prime and laying off for a while. While trying to get back into shape he fell on the side of the rail on a 10 foot day and snapped his femure. Not that unusual for an out of shape has been except he wasn't surfing any waves that were unfamiliar. The irony was the surf spot that he was at is called Jocko's and is specifically named after him.

removing the heart of a young, beautiful woman and eating it. into something slightly resembling a serious discussion...
...yes. You win, next game.

| How do you really feel about getting old? Posted: 5/9/2009 8:45:53 AM | I remember going to a 40th when I was in my 20's and dating an older guy, and I can recall looking around and thinking egads these people are old...death can't be far away. Ok slight exaggeration...but man they seemed like fogies. Well tonight I went to a 40th...and I just wanna know when did everyone get so damn young!!
I now have a new social rule...no more parties where friends' teenage daughters who look like super models will be standing around taking a gazillion photos of themselves with their phones.

teenage daughters who look like super models I heard Judith Lucy being interviewed on the radio the other day, promoting her standup show in Perth. Its called 'Judith Lucy isn't getting any younger'.
She said that the thing is when you're 22 and you wake up you know that that is as good as you're going to look all day.
On the other hand when you're older you get out of bed and you know you're going to look 100% in an hour after a cup of coffee when you wake up properly and your face isn't all puffy and squashed anymore.
Sorry Judith, if I haven't remembered your words properly...

Yep . . join the club. I went to a 60th Birthday tonight and it's the same thing . . only they really are younger.
But here's something interesting. One of the guests (a friend) was telling me that babies born today will have an average life expectancy of 100 years. So . . in a hundred years time it'll be pretty common to find people walking around that are 120 years old.

| How do you really feel about getting old? Posted: 5/10/2009 10:14:32 PM | Old? What is Old?
I figure that if one just hangs around people who feel old, the feeling can become contagious.
Most of my circle are substantialy younger than me in years, but we share the same ideas and interests ie; World of warcraft, Bikes, Music and many other things.
The day I find myself dressed in long shorts, long white socks, hawian shirt and sneakers, sitting in a Bowls club with my belly hanging down to my knees, that's the day I will just blow my brains out, because I will already be brain dead anyway.

| How do you really feel about getting old? Posted: 5/11/2009 6:17:46 AM | Physically, yeah I am old as the body doesn't hold it's shape that it once did but mentally I do not perceive myself as old well not until I do something and exercise then that is a different story.
I have always said to my kids that you should always try to learn something new every couple of years.
21 years ago I got my Amateur Radio Certificate, 14 years ago I became an AFL accreddited Umpire, 11 years ago I held several certicates for officiating for swimming and six years ago I became an accredited cricket umpire and as such I have umpired in state country championship as well as umpiring in Queensland and WA.
Bloody kids, got me out of watching sport on tv and participating instead.

| How do you really feel about getting old? Posted: 5/11/2009 11:16:37 PM | 3 out of my 4 grandparents lived till they were 90, both of my parents are getting close to 70 with a strong chance of making 80, Ive kind of figured that atm Im only just getting halfway through my life, aside from my grey hair which started when I was 20, I still dont feel a day older than 30.
The only 2 things i have to rectify are getting less laugh lines, and pushing my six pack back up where it used to be.
Worrying about stuff doesnt make it any easier.
Theres nothing wrong with wanting to look good, as long as thats not all your wanting.
I have to say though that the OP and one other in this forum, that are making the most noise actually seem to be doing better in the aging department than most quite a few years younger than them, must be all that laughing they do. Either that or I need bi-focals.

That's what probably killed him Absolutely. Having children is what ages you. Especially teenagers. They CAUSE all the grey hairs and worry lines. So having 12 would have to be life threatening!! (It couldn't possibly have been the several women)
If I hadn't had children in the first place I'd still look exactly like Naamah. Well....dreams are free.

Actually they reckon having pets is very good for your health and wellbeing so maybe there's some anti-aging properties associated with them too? Mind you, botox is cheaper and less hassle.

I really should have charged you.. Sounds like the geese did anyway.
One of the most charming things about having animals is that they dont gives a rats how old you are, or how you look. They love you anyway (as long as you feed them) or chase you off anyway. Very levelling.

How is it that as your age increases then so does your pant size?......is it all relative I wonder?
And whats with these hairs that grow out of your face as you get older? Im not talking downy girl fluff either, I mean proper man hairs thats grow alone. If I make it to 80 will they all meet up?
Thank god for tweezers.
