like a drama queen sending out the wrong message about materialism, boob jobs and extreme surgery addiction just so she can get some where in life and feel like a some body(not to mention vomit to stay thin).

My fav was trailer-trash Barbie, complete with short-short cut-offs, cigarette, and 4 Bratz(r) from different fathers. She also had the articulated limbs that allowed her to move into positions no human has ever attained before and since. | |

I dont think playing with any kind of dolls have any bearing on ones sexual identity ...but the poster did raise a point relevent to this thread ...stop calling names ....
though true homosexuality is not a choice ..much of the popular bisexual activity especially among young women is situational/environmental not true sexual orientation ...we are already seeing young women that identified themselves as Bisexual or lesbian ...getting older and growing out of that lifestyle ...a true lesbian or even a true Bisexual will not grow out of it
situational or environmental homosexual activity can be learned and then abandoned ...it is my contention that the acceptance of homosexuality ( a good thing ) has had a side effect of making homosexuality cool/popular .... and may well be a source of much emotional distress for people who did the Bi /gay thingy ...just because it was cool/popular/accepted ...and not because it is their orientation ...and so the pendulum of popular opinion swings ..and as it swings.... it knocks many people over the side
its one thing to make homosexuality ok /accepted ....but when in the attempt to make it accepted we produce icons /dolls who are popular just because they portray homosexuality or anything sexual ...then we make it popular to be gay or popular to be sexual ...leading people away from their natural course in life ...and rushing kids into a sexual perception which they are not yet ready for ...trust me when kids get curious about sex it wont be Barbie or Ken they are undressing to see what the equipment looks like
I think we should make sexuality a non issue ... and let your orientation be an accepted but private issue in your life ...kinda like the sexless dolls of the past promoted ..think...
when I was a kid little girls played with dolls and none of them cared a damn what was under their dresses ....it was us adolescent boys that just had to see up under Barbies dress...and we kinda already knew what we were looking for | |

Uhhh, lots of people give me false impressions. Cosmetics do the same thing. So do foundation garments. I'd be sorely tempted to support a prohibition of the latter two, but banning is a tres tres tres slippery slope. Speaking in tongues has always flipped me out, too, and I'm kinda skeered of those folks.
BUT, at some point, somebody might want to ban me. Then what? Brunettes resent blondes. Uhoh, Darlin'.
Deerdog, as usual, is right; I was kinda hoping that this would be a playful thread, although I did trust Samuraicindy to bring a sledge hammer to the party. Even solicited her! I really don't wanna ban anything. Just hopin' to bring some folks out, air some thoughts, you know,****ail chat.
A very shrewd older guy was the managing partner of the first place I worked, and he took me under his wing. We represented the Southern Baptists in Oklahoma. And he, albeit napping, attended the Mother church in town every Sunday. His theory of sin was not to ban it, or avoid it, but to wade right into it. So when he and his wife visited New Orleans, they went to see the transvestites give a show, and enjoyed it. That old man started me on the same path.
I don't own any Barbies, and the only "dolls" I played with as a kid were little soldiers. And although I had raised daughters, they never asked for a Barbie. From some of the prior posts, I understand that these dolls have become like Longaberger baskets. There's a secondary market for the damn things. Collectors. Investors. I gotta be honest; it never occurred to me to invest in a Barbie. Lol.
But I do think kids need someone to start them on the right path, and that would be about the same time they start thinking about sex. For me personally, that would be age 5. I married a woman who claimed she was masturbating at that same age. I suspect the Barbie doll is not a very good instructional tool; some might say that way leads to madness. But geesh, every time we ban something, it just gets popular. Let's just find something to add to the mix to balance perspectives. Doesn't have to be a counter-Barbie, or a doll at all. A few parental words, properly timed, is probably all that's needed.
On the lighter side, I never was a breast man. Barbie, Betty Boop, Little Annie Fannie, all those hyper exaggerated female forms, just don't do it for me. | |

As a kid, I never got into the barbie thing or understood it/could not identify with it.. Mostly it was a cultural thing.. I think the doll symbolized America's standard of beauty: blond/ thin lipped/ blue eyed skinny ...and ingrained that ideal into the American psyche ..which is why the media goes into a collective frenzy for a front page news exclusive anytime britney speers/p-hilton/ takes a dump....These days most people have taken the Aryan Ideal blinders off to see that beauty comes in all colors and ethnicity's...and more dolls have been created representative of that so that
all lil girls can see their worth and beauty...
Another rather sinister side effect of this barbie propaganda ... the ingrained notion in some segments of American culture that you have to be a boney stick waif to be attractive which assisted in the surge of anorexia and bulimia in mainstream culture..
