Posted: 12/30/2008 9:27:13 PM | Good for You !!!  It amazes me how people see themselves & each other ! I have been on several dating sites for a number of years. ( I had a 3 yr. boyfriend in between -- so don't anybody get discouraged. )
There are many men who call themselves average -- but are 40-50 extra pounds. Some women do the same..Being definitely heterosexual, I haven't looked at the women as much -- but have "checked out the competition" from time to time. It seems both groups exagerrate in their favor -- not sure who is worse. Nearly everyone moves their body weight down a notch or 2 on ALL the sites...."Average" generally turns out to be "a few extra lbs" but then isn't everything relative? It is normal for mid. aged people especially to carry a few extra lbs due to slowed metabolism. " A person who calls themselves "a few extra lbs" is often a "few dozen extra lbs !" ...and so on.
After dating a fellow who was living in a time warp -- looking for Twiggy, it was great to meet a guy who likes a few curves -- a woman who looks like a WOMAN !!!
It was great to hear from a fellow on here who enjoys "snuggly". I don't like to cuddle a coat hanger, or a manequin either ! Good for you !
Just wondering -- do guys measure their "waiste" below the gut ? Are we really supposed to go by the size of the belt instead of what is hanging OVER it ?? If they measured their actual middle -- it would really make for a different size.  | |

Up until 2 yrs ago, I was wearing a size 14 kids and a size 3 women. That is the way I had been most of my life. Then my thyroid went crazy and I have bounced up and down on the scale ever since. My profile says ''a few extra lbs'' because that is the way "I" see myself. My friends, family, and 99% of the men I have met say that I am and not overweight and that I do NOT look like my pics at all (yes, the ones showing were all been taken during the last 6 mths).
I believe that women are more judgemental on their sizes then the men. I think women will put average, if they feel very good and are told that they look very good at the size they are. I also think they will put ''a few extra lbs'' if they are not the ''usual'' size they are use to or 'feel' overweight. Men on the other hand, seem to put average unless they are a ''little more'' than just a little overweight. In my opinion, men look at their weight differently than women. We are more self conscious about even 5 lbs, where men seem to be more comfortable with their weight even when they gain 20 lbs. The way we view our bodies is due to the way we are brought up, society's influence, and the individuals own mental and emotional outlook.
If they measured their actual middle -- it would really make for a different size.
I totally agree with this!!! I think if the men had to wear a belt 'around' their belly button area itself instead of 'under' it, then the sizes would most definitely go waayy up  Sorry guys, just being honest.  | |

Posted: 12/31/2008 9:25:39 PM | I have no idea what to judge as average anymore. I have my own opinion of myself but most people I tell at work or my family look at me like I'm crazy. Put my profile as a 'few extra pounds' as thats what I feel I am.
5'5 170lbs. or so varies of course but has been pretty much around that area for a couple of months. Worst part about it is I have 29 inch legs and a waist that varies from 32-34 depending on what kind of pants(dress,cargo,straight leg, & et cetera) I want to wear. It's terribly hard to find pants that fit and feel right.
Yeah I'm rambling I just like reading all the threads about the term "average" on threads and figured I'd finally comment on one.

Yes, as a man, it's nice to be with a woman who takes care of herself and likes the way she looks. But, yess, there is a BUT, when looking for a person who is going to spend a part of your life with, hopefully a great deal of that time, I have a habit of looking to see if we stimulate each other intelligently. Looks can be changed in seconds, but if there is no basis on which to be compatible, I don't give a damn how good looking you are. I want someone who I can communicate with, exchange ideas with, grow with..if she happens to take care of herself, that's a great bonus. I don't judge a persons looks on what dress size or pants size she wears, we all could use some improvement if we look in a mirror, even if the one person we cherish the most tells us we look awesome, great, fantastic, super sexy, etc. We will always dislike what we look like because we are taught to look at ourselves in a negative way physically by various means. I say, give me a woman that makes me happy inside, as well as outside, and I'm all for it. There's nothing so sexy as a woman who smiles at you with true affection and shows it. | |

Nice, eh? Yet, his profile says he is average, and he has a beer belly. I don't care whether he is working off some holiday pounds, but just because something doesn't work out, the name calling of fat is ridiculous!
Incidentally - smokers- if you smoke "only when you drink" and have two packs of cigarettes in your car, you are a smoker!! | |

AMEN! lol.. I'm a size 14 and damn proud of it.
You are also 5'8" (I looked at your profile. LOL), and I personally would say the average woman in the USA is probably closer to 5'3" or so it seems to me, so even though a size 14, you can carry it better than a 5'2" woman could carry being a 12.
I have generally dated women who were in the 5'10"-6' range and around a size 14-20.
At 6'2" and 250lbs with 22" wide shoulders, I'm definitely larger than the average man.

I knew that the 1st time I saw the title of this thread... which is today, what you had on your mind. It just so happens that I have a sturdy measuring tape sitting erect here on the desk. I have no shame in admitting that MY opinion is any  that is aprox 6 inches is average, anything under that is extremely dissapointing. My BOB is 8" and does little tricks, god bless technology  | |

..LOL....Wifey, that's a good one. I still believe in honesty, integrity and overall believing mankind is overall a good race. There are exceptions such as the a-hole you compared me with, of which if you can read and comprehend the previous posts on this thread you would realize what an asinine statement that was. But then people who lie for their own selfish reasons usually have trouble comprehending reality.........WTF.....
