And sctrrdr69, not sure about anyone else but it's TO DAMN COLD for me! thats the whole idea, by the time you step up the pace enough to produce enough energy to heat yourself up, think of the calories THAT would burn, much more effective than when its warm and comfortable, lol

I liked Body for Life's Diet but I felt that they were really just trying to sell the supplemental program
Skip, I have been following the Body For Life principals for six months now and I don't purchase their supplements. I have lost 55 pounds and am in the best shape of my life. Now I am not advocating the program and saying it is the end all to end all. I just know it works for me and just like any lifestyle change, it takes planning and dedication.

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/19/2008 9:25:15 AM | I do ride my bike everychance I get. That is more for enjoyment, mild workout. Walk in the park is okay too. I want to make sure I can run for my life if I have to in more ways than one. And YES, TOO COLD and YUCKY outside for the outdoor stuff right now. I can ride my bike all day, but you get me on a spin bike and 10 minutes I am struggling to keep up with the instructor.
I dare you men to try it with me!
A helpful hint, make sure you are cold inside and out before you start. Have a cold towel and a FULL bottle of water when you start. Wear minimal clothing, I always have to pull my t-shirt off (i wear a cami over my sports bra). The place I had spinning before turned down the lights and turned on black lights, fans going, awesome music to help set the pace. It was fun but wow! Hard to keep up if you haven't tried it before and if you aren't prepared you will be in shock.
No soda, no juice, minimal alcohol, lots of milk (I have no prob with skim). Avoid sugary things unless you need a smile! But not 20! I keep m&m's in freezer and take one or four when I need an anti-depressant! Sometimes just the fact I do silly things like that to myself makes me laugh at me! Always a good thing I think! If you have enough fruit and veggies you don't need juice... I will do low sodium veggie or tomato juice for a quick nutritional kick.
POF has a limit on how many posts on a thread within 10 or something... so it won't let me post continuously as I have more info gathered believe it or not!

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/19/2008 9:27:55 AM | Thanks, I know it all takes dedication to diet and fitness, I have the diet coming along and now need to get the other going. I see you are from my old kneck of the woods and used to run around t-ville in the 80's... Remember nights when the courthouse square was packed! In todays language, I belive that would be hoppin & rockin?!?!?! Lots of and taking the "Steps to hell" which I believe they were called.... Lots of trips down the t-ville/Nokomis Blacktop just to cruise cruise cruise.... | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/19/2008 9:49:23 AM | Wow Skip, small world. I thought nobody heard of T'ville. Yes back in the day, I spent many hours cruising the square. Now these days (especially when gas price were higher) the "kids" do not cruise the square any more.

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/19/2008 4:55:04 PM | a bicycle can't be any colder than a motorcycle in this weather, so I wouldn't have a problem with it, lol...(been told I've got lots of balls, so I'd be ok, lol)...would be intersting to see what it would be like to wear chaps on a bicycle on serious side, I do low sodium, no soda (unless out) no alcohol.. (I do drink juices), do some suplements (vitamins, omega3 fish oil, etc), and would definately like to watch sheila work out, lol...(if thats not good for the heart, I don't know what is, lol) | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/19/2008 6:52:34 PM | Thanks! Heck, I like watching me work out! Those black lights do wonders! Tell that Conz dude he couldn't handle me if I had my whole picture on my profile!
The challenge is on! Don't wait! Just find something to do today that would benefit your health!
Share half of your donut, skip one ciggarette, drink water instead of soda, take one flight of stairs, or one more than normal, stretch during a commercial on TV, log everything you put into your body today, grab a couple cans out of the pantry and use them as weights if you have to!
Any day over 50 degrees (and dry out)I will ride if I have a biking partner, I know how to take it apart and put it together so I could meet almost anywhere for a ride!

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 6:47:16 AM | kill two birds with one stone.....do a power walk at the mall sunday, get last minute christmas shopping done at the same time, lol...
or we can do an event at Jacks again, but this time, have a drink or two, walk around the block a few times, have a couple more drinks, around the block..... (oh wait. some people do exercise at Jacks, stairs work..up and down up and down to the tat shop, lol)
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 6:47:52 AM | I am choosing to skip ALL of my cigs...yeah, me!! And now that the withdrawal symptoms are over with, I feel AWESOME. :O) What's ironic...have always been a nail biter, and I find that now that I am not smoking, I am also not biting the nails and am on the way to growing my own set!
I know that I need a better fitness regime...something regular. I am used to my work being my exercise, as well...and now that I am restarting my business...once it picks up, I will be set. :O) I really have no diet issues, with the exception to I probably need to eat MORE...small, healthy frequent meals is MUCH healthier than the mythical 3 meals. (And I NEVER eat breakfast...no way...I just am not hungry and I cannot eat when I am not hungry!)
Sheila...you and another poster in the Jacks thread and elsewhere are an absolute perfect match! You should write theonetosmile! You guys are practically identical in your interests...and even share the medical field as careers! He is like the male version of YOU...check it out! Oh...and he loves tall women...you might have even been the one he met and referred to, at O'Aces! I expect a wedding invite if all works out in my matchmaking skills!

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 9:54:26 AM | We did chat in person that night and again since I re-POFed. That connection is a one way street so to speak.
As far as the challenge, I am trying to build up enough strength to actually run again. Haven't truly run since high school when they made us run. I am finally meeting some of the goals I set. I was able to run over a mile, on a tread mill, without stopping. It wasn't very fast, but I completed it! I stayed on the tread mill for another 20 minutes pushing myself to run at least a minute at time a few more times till I thought I would end up getting conveyor belted off the machine!
More calories are burned when you are cold, but you have to make sure your muscles are not tight before putting them through too much. Stretch or walk a little on a treadmill or eliptical machine, 5 minutes will help.

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 10:18:12 AM | congrates on not smoking (still) kat I'm kinda right behind ya on day two, seem to be stuck on that day though! w/luck i'll make it past that before nye!
And congrates to anyone taking that extra step, mile or peddle :P Most think about it, come up with excuses not to do it or put it off till the next day, like me who's waiting till after the 1st so he can find his equipment again! :P
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 10:44:31 AM | | Equipment, nuggets, I just love these cute little names you guys come up with for your "business"...LOL | |

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 10:45:20 AM | Need help finding it? I am sure we could find someone that wants to help....
Did you find out about spinning class for us Bay?
And Jai, my resting heart rate is still very high. It has been over 10 days now. B/P still high. At least the last 2 days when I start my routine it is about 98, so it is under 100 a bit.
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 10:54:58 AM | BAY!!!!! That is beyond AWESOME, and I am very proud of you!!
I quit cold turkey, but what helped me is LOTS of mints and gum. I made it a point to, when I wanted a cig, or when I would normally smoke one (after eating, while on PC, etc) put a mint or gum in my mouth and then remove it about the same amount of time it would take to smoke a cig. (5 mins) The mint replaced the HABIT aspect of the cig...and also helped my mouth! Key is to not keep it in for longer than you would smoke, though.
My withdrawal symptoms were sky high this time, too....so I would say if you experience such, try some of the OTC remedies...cause the WD symptoms were worse than the quitting, itself! LOL
Having a cool roomate who would discover any "cheating" helped me too! ;O)
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 1:53:13 PM | | congrats to all of you that are quitting the habit...when I quit I found what worked best to kill the 'cigarette aftertaste ' that keeps wanting to pop up are those red hot mini jaw breaker. or fire bombs, or whatever they're called, type candies, it doesn't take much, will kill that taste and desire for hours, unlike a sweeter mint taste......(been 7yrs now , and WON'T go back to smoking, no way..lol) | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 2:05:46 PM | Congrates sctrrdr! Keep up the good work!
And Kat for still hangin in - i'm impressed, always wondered if you'd make it through all the party's and the like so soon after you quit! Congrates gurl, think you bout got it licked...
At this point it's not so hard for me, especially since i dont have to leave the house, come the holidays and the nye partay... well that'll be a good test!
And that doesn't mean any of ya can just walk up n slap me if ya see me smoke'n!!!

Tasha, that 'nugget' comment was stolen from a TV show tyvm for thinking i had any imagination what-s0-ever!
And nope on the spinning, i'll try to get in touch with her this week and see what's up. If she's not up a sponsorship i'll check on rates and openings and let ya know...

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/20/2008 5:07:56 PM | Find out times and how many maximum at a session too!

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/21/2008 1:06:52 PM | | I took off yesterday from sweating, but still kept in mind the goals! I am going to hit it today though. This cold air should make it easier to get more time in! | |

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/21/2008 9:00:12 PM | good laurd....I need someone to give me some shock to the brain.... I just can't seem to get it started and going in the direction of the gym.
I have a membership to a great gym too. Last year I didn't want to go in fear of running into the X.... I have gone a few times recently and I haven't seen him.. thank God.
Weight loss is a life change. It is a mind set and right now, my mind is being totally rebellious. It is a terrible thing to say but right now, I just don't give a shvt about it... so you know how hard it is to get to the gym
I did however quit smoking... this past March was one year except for a few that I had one time when I was out having a drink. I notice the ONLY time I want one now is when I am out having a drink and then it doesn't happen me everytime I am out. The big problem I have is, I have gained 20 pounds and with this mind set... well it is still here.... gggrrrrrr
ok Shelia, girl I need a coach.. are you game?
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/22/2008 5:00:05 AM | | I might be interested in getting together once a week and doing spinning or something with other people. It is just so boring going to the gym alone. Please let me know if you get a group together to do this. | |

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/22/2008 3:13:03 PM | Sorry sweetie, forgot again!! Kinda preoccupied this time of year ya know - but i'm a tryin!!!! | |

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/22/2008 3:34:59 PM | | I've gotten my running in between running back and forth to my car to start it and let it warm up, then run back into the house, then run back out to it when I leave for work..........see having a wind chill in the negatives has an advantage. **** But am already looking into when I can get away for that spring break trip to Florida so now just have to get the body in shape***** | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/22/2008 5:05:21 PM | 'saint' Theresa goes to spring break in Fla ????? (whats this world coming to..lol) | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/22/2008 5:52:03 PM | I have quit several times..usually 1-2 yrs..Quit once cold turkey!! that was the best and lasted 6 yrs. What I know now....is..can't have that 1 in a bar when drinking. They say there is a place in the brain that never forgets nicotine..worst than a herorin addiction. | |
