do you all realize the world is reading this???

me personally, I just don't want to admit that getting older makes it tough when we work our bodies... however if we quit moving and working out bodies... we might as well throw in the towel....

me, I will just keep on keeping on...

oh btw, I have been walking a little more with the weather being nice. Walking is great for a person when they have back issues... that is what I was told anyway.

New 'baby' in the house. My latest love interest, a new bike!

Umm, wait that just does not sound right at all!!!

Any advice on the best sections of Katy Trail to ride or whether the 364 bike path is worth the effort/where to start?

I gotta wear the nubs of these tires but quick!

Trailnet dot org for great bike rides. I haven't gotten to the Katy yet. I was told a helmet was required if you ride it - FYI. I use the Madison county trails and haven't found a bad one yet. Now, if they would put a bike path to St Louis I would be overjoyed!

I bought myself one the new hybrid bikes on my Grandson's 1st birthday 2 years ago, along with the little carrier/trailer for him. Talk about a great ride for both of us! The trail also can hold a tent, cooler, and room to spare if no little people are in it!

I actually keep my bike in my trunk from spring till late fall. I usually don't ride around home, I perfer the trails that keep you away from cars. (Tools, 1st aid kit and air compressor too)

I will like to sell my Mountain bike and buy a road bike. A Mountain bike is heavy and only made to go down hills.

They are made for uphill too. Think about it, when we ride a bike we usually finish where we start, so for as much down hill, you have that much up hill too. It just takes a bit of training to get hills. One tip I picked up listening to an interview with Lance Armstrong.... When you know you have a hill coming up, the faster you are PEDALLING the easier the hill bill be. It is not how fast you are going when you hit the hill. I drop my gear by 1 or 2 depending upon the hill and I have found I do much better on hills now. When I used the fitness challenge program in January at Bally's, I took the spinning class, that help tremenously!

My spell check has pedaling both ways, with 2 L's and with one... not my computer... internet brought both up too.... hmmmmm

There's a new breed, the hybrids that combine road bike features such as the tires with the suspensions from a mountain bike. Best of both worlds.

If you do some shopping you can find one with an aluminum frame. Makes a world of difference. Mine is paved use only, but it is the lightest bike non-sport bike I have ever owned. I'd guess it to be in the 30's with a comfortable, suspended seat, rigid tail with sprung seat post and a classic suspended front-end.

Something fun to do if you like to ride your bike... and if you like to drink beer!

http://www.schlafly.com/enews/aug09.html

Enjoy!

I can go but only till about 8pm...

Oh..by the way... my work outs have been limited, but I did go to the hc both Sat and Sunday and pushed the weights to my limit. I can really feel it, yet not in pain. I have just been wearing my "fit"flops since my running shoes, or most shoes still cause me a lot of pain. I do get odd looks, but when you use the weight machines, it is almost impossible to hurt your feet or toes. Doctor said NO to the Dread mill! :D

Ok Ms Shelia,
I adore you dearly, but here is my medical advice as well as a training partner advice.
NO flip flops, period, please wear safe shoes. You just never know when the guy behind can lose control and drop a weight and it can roll as well. Plus the flip shoe is not at all conducive to proper wear on feet especially since you have been experiencing problems. This might cause more and than what??? Don't want you to end up like me and match titanium screws in our bodies. I have enough for both. OK, off my soap box.

As anyone been doing the calorie counter program? I started last week and I have noticed my sodium levels way to high, so I have adjusted.

The free weights are in a separate section. It would be a major freak accident for anything to come apart and get me.... almost all shoes hurt me, the "fit" flops the way they lay makes it actually feel better. I can't wear them to work though...

I will have to go back a few to see about this calorie count....

I found it!

Belly dancing can be found at Studio Z. There is another club that is offering once month passes for Zumba classes, one of my friends from work is getting me one. She wants to find out how clutzy I am!

I am still trying to keep at it so I don't lose any ground that I have gained. Still not allowed to run so I am using the weight machines and lifting, pushing, pulling as much as I can as fast as I can to keep up till I can try to run again...

Aw Shelia,
No I am not, just wanting to try new things. You know me, life is way to short, must go for it while you can. Blessed to have friends all over this country. My heart is happy, so it makes it easier to want to try harder. Not only for myself, but for the people in your life. Hint GD).

I have been keeping active, still can't RUN!

For something fun, healthy and different to do this weekend... JOIN ME! Go to the moonlight ramble web site for details!

MoonlightRamble.org

AND, Sunday(weather permitting delay or cancel?) 1:00 pm I will be setting up to ride the Madison County trails, starting the Collinsville recreation district office near the Culvers Rest off of 157 in Collinsville IL. The hills are not steep, the trail is shady, paved and very scenic. Bring at least one bottle of water. There are a few places near the trail occasionally to stop and eat or get another drink. Email me if you would like to join me. This is a great place for those that have not ridden much over the years just as well as those of you that are regular riders.
