She merely likes sex a lot.Its the old double standard, a woman,s a slut, a man a stud for the same actions.
She might like sex a lot, or she could be stupid, or naive, or have low self-esteem... Or simply doesn't have the ability to say "NO"... none of them good qualities to have in a long term partner...
And sorry, the guy is only a STUD when in high school, most of the rest of us males either matured or grew out of that by the time we hit age 20.... And even so, many of those STUDs also had low self-esteem too... The one's that didn't grow out of it get called "man-whore" or "man-slut" or similar... and everyone laughs at them behind their backs as we do the female ones....
For every bonk she had, she was partnered by an equally loose living-haha male.It takes two to tango.
That doesn't mean the guy that's with her now is or was a loose living-haha male. So why should he have to put up with those guy's left-overs...? Maybe he wants a woman who has enough self-respect to not want a woman who cannot say "NO", or who falls into bed with every loose living-haha male. | |

the fact is, all we know is a number. there was nothing posted that i saw about her reasons. no one seems to know her reasons. why doesn't he ask her? maybe for a few years, she did have low self esteem! why is that such a bad thing? maybe she had any issues she used to have worked out. maybe she likes to experiment with sex. as long as you're being safe, why is that so condemned? the fact that she trusted this guy enough to actually GIVE an honest number should count for something. if this now makes him doubt her, well then, not such a solid relationship. but don't jump into marriage by any means if it makes him uncomfortable. | |

What, exactly, is wrong about it? By having an abnormally high number of past sexual partners she puts up a big neon sign saying she is not long-term material. Some people have that lot in life.
And, you're wrong...the dude IS a stud. Unfortunately for people (probably) like you, there are double standards with respect to the number of sexual partners for men and women.
There is a lot more truth in life than fairness.

Or do we have to factor in time as well, how long a person has been sexually active, the length of "relationship", and the number of orgasms given/received? Don't forget different points for oral, regular intercourse, and less common sexual options. Also the history and perspective of the current partner, although how we translate that into an integer I just don't know.
That is a lot of math to make a judgement on the past. But hey, maybe if we were all reduced to mathematical equations, there would be fewer conflicts. | |

I find it hard to believe that she came up with this number so quickly.
I think that her future husband does need to study math and ask if she'd become sexually active at a young age.....or not.
I'd be concerned if she admitted to having 83 partners in the past year or two, but if her sexual history spans over 10 or 20 years and she's never been married, then it's only reasonable to expect her to have some experience.
Plus we have no idea what a sexual experience means to her.
Not every sexual experience involves intercourse.
Obviously this guy had an acceptable answer in mind before he asked this question.
Wouldn't it be better to ask if she's ever cheated on a boyfriend?...been arrested?...had an abortion?...got caught shop-lifting?...been fired from a job?...claimed bankruptcy?...or spent time in rehab?
To me, these answers tell more about a person's character than how many sexual partners they've had.

Being politically correct has no place in a relationship. The majority of POFers think it is OK to have casual sex, but that does not mean that he is obligated to stay with her. If he chooses to leave her I would applaud him for knowing himself and staying true to his values. That being said, my advice (hypocritical, I know) is that he THINKS about it, long and hard. Tell him not to give up something that has the potential to provide him with a lifetime of happiness, but if it will continue being a serious issue then he may be better off looking for someone else. | |

I think many of us are putting our "starting" ages as a base and saying that is XX number of men per week/month. But lets say she told him she slept with 12 men .. not that bad, except she said Oh yeah I just lost the V card 8 months before we met .. which chick is the bigger slut? the one that had 83 men in what could possibly have been 12 years or the one that may have had 12 in less then one?
I believe there are more details that are needed in that discussion before a true judgement can be passed on her character. But I will also admit when I read the OP my first thought was "Slut".
Yes people can change and grow up but there are basic character item that need to be discussed like if they changed HOW LONG since the past they are saying they learned from ended. | |

OP: If this guy is that hung up about it, he should do both himself and her a favor and leave.
I'm not saying that 83 partners isn't a bit concerning, but if he loves her (not just finds her "cute" as you said, but LOVES her), he will have to deal with it.
I was with my ex for 2 1/2 years. When we first got together we told each other our numbers. I didn't have a high number, but I just happened to have two more than he did. He fixated on it throughout our relationship. Then I found out that he was "working on his list" throughout our time together. When we broke up, he told me that I was a slut.
See the problem?
I had only two more lovers than he did when we first met.
He cheated throughout and actually wrote out a list.

Say you were sexually active but career orientated for 20 years then its quite possible that relationships might not last longer than a few months… leading to a new chap every few months … say 4 a year .. after 20 years that’s 80. Its sad but I bet most were fairly unmemorable encounters .. not worth a mention in the love stakes .
Another thing – I don’t feel the words ‘slut’ or ‘stud’ add anything to this sort of discussion It was very honest of this woman to tell of her encounters, especially because of the social stigma so good for her and I wish her and the chap all the best for the future.
