I tried taking out all the periods, astrisks, greater than signs etc. I STILL keep getting the same message - It's really annoying.... | |

 | There are (2) changes. Asterix's are no longer restricted, and you can have up to 18 Periods, and will likely cause a 35% Reduction of People asking why they can't update their Profile. |

I suggest a Filter then for a Max of 5 for the same consecutive Characters and Symbols (All of them on the Keyboard), as any Troll can still »» XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX his entire About Me Profile Form Field to the Tune of 1,000's of Characters.
Could I suggest using something like the LZ77 algorithm for this? It compresses data by looking for repeating patterns of any length.
You could have a rule that a profile which compresses to less than X bytes has not enough content. Alternately, anything that compresses to less than X percent of its original size.
This would eliminate both people repeating characters or words and not putting anything in the profile. If someone puts repeating characters around useful content, that would pass where the existing system will fail any repetition.
Obviously it could be quite a bit of work to implement the alogorithm. | |

Hey...with all of these amazing minds working on filters to dot our I's and cross our T's how about we work those wonderful brains on improving the links to the parties. No one can find them with these new filters...and teencey weencey links.
Right brains gotta help the left brains...and you all seem to have the brain power for that one.

That's very constructive input, well done. The purpose of the filter is to stop people putting up profile's full of rubbish (wasting everyone's time), not to control the people who put up decent ones. If you can do better, why not write the code and send it to Markus? | |

I'm a firm believer in giving people enough rope to hang themselves.

The more bogus Profiles, the more Complaints this Site is not for Real, but just a Haven for Scammers and Trolls, which can contribute to discredit it.
| I agree, the above Profile Content Filters do next to Diddly to affect that. But then dozens of consecutive Characters aren't needed either ... for the most part. |

Must be a another Error Message on a "Need to know Basis" ... 
Nevertheless, have a look at the (2) Links below and check which Item applies.
Bottom Dollar says you have to shorten down the Number of consecutive "Periods" which exceed 18 at the Bottom of your About Me Profile Form Field.

i can update mine just fine.. i think its just a matter of FOLLOWING instructions.. their guidelines to ensure that your profile works correctly.. reading all of these messages is like reading something thats the same in 5 different ways..
but its only a matter of following isntructions and not trying to do anything fancy with your profile. | |
