| Different phobias Posted: 11/6/2009 10:29:36 PM | I have a very weird phobia...I am terrified of basements.
I didn't realize the full extent of this fear, until I was looking at a house, and the real estate agent said, "let's go look at the basement..."...more ominous words have never been spoken. I politely declined, with a "sure, I will go down there later." But...I know I won't.
So I thought, in my head, somebody will have to go down there, for simple inspection. So I thought about who I would ask, to go down into the basement for me. And further irrational disclosure, I realized, I didn't want anybody to go down there.
Not if I was going to live in that house.
In almost every horror movie I have watched, the evil begins when someone goes down into the basement.
I didn't even know I had this phobia until I was looking at a house, with a basement. (I have never lived in a house with a basement.)
Completely irrational, yet something I can't reason away. The phobia is still there, regardless of any intellectual reasoning.
So...I will see if my adoration of this house, supersedes my phobia about basements... | |

| Different phobias Posted: 11/7/2009 5:24:30 AM | | CLOWNS!! It's so bad that I walked into a McDonald's with my son not too long ago. There was a guy dressed as Ronald McDonald. I think between my own fear and my instinct to protect my son against something I myself am afraid of, that the clown was lucky I didn't push him into the hot grease from the hamburgers cooking!! | |

| what about this one? Posted: 11/7/2009 2:40:29 PM | | Hi - is there a name for my phobia - statues etc? have you heard of stendals syndrome (have i spent it right?) feeling faint at the sight of beautiful works of art? there's florence syndome ie tourists fainting when they see the statues in florence. i think mine goes back to when i was a child. my two elder sisters used to drag me towards a statue in a small square surrounded by an office block. i'm ok with normal sized ones but the bigger they get the more i can't go towards them and want to fall down!! i'm the same with big paintings etc. the statue of liberty would freak me out - beautiful though she is, as would Jesus in brazil - beautiful though He is too! i might be ok in new york where the buildings are kind of close together but if i turned a corner and saw a sky scraper on its own i would freak out! same with churches/castles - high walls etc. i feel in awe at the awesomeness of them! i was near the sea and walked around a rock and saw a light house looming and could not look at it - had to walk away - slowly!! anyway, how are you? how is life? do you have any phobias? Lots of love to the States. Peace x | |

| what about this one? Posted: 11/15/2009 10:40:29 PM | I hate clowns, too.I never could stand them, and I can't stand people who are dressed up in weird costumes. When I was a kid whenever someone in a costume approched me I would hide behind my mom.At christmas time,my mom always had to go up to santa with me as I was so shy. Iam really terrified of heights, dying, drowning, flying and thunderstorms.I used to have a lot more fears but fortunately I conquered them. One fear I conquered was spiders.I used to be severely terrified of spiders, and I would have panic attacks whenever a spider crawled on me.Iam so glad to no longer be terrified of spiders anymore. Now I need to work on conquereing the rest of my fears. | |

| what about this one? Posted: 11/16/2009 12:02:47 AM | | I hate ladders, don't mind going up but I hate getting back on them. Really weird because I was very active in skydiving for a while and never thought twice about exiting a plane. | |
