Subsequent relationships were very short-lived and disappointing but not enough to leave me heartbroken. | |

I suppose my last time was 4 yrs ago, and I've been in relationships since then, just never got hurt again. I've even ended a few on my own. Disappointment, yes - "broken hearted?" Nope. That's never going to happen again. I'm not always sure if that's a good or bad thing. I suppose the pain get's great enough where I knew I had to change the way I felt in relationships. I couldn't hold onto resentments against myself or someone else, just because we didn't work out.
Today I just see it like it either works or it doesn't and it's not so full of over-powering emotion.
Mine was over 4 years ago as well. I dated a lot since then, and had a few short term relationships that ended when it became apparent that we weren't a good match for the long term. None of those breakups hurt.
However, I did have a relationship a few months back where she really meant something to me. We spent a lot of time together for quite a few months, and we grew very close. Some things started to happen, and we broke up. And it hurt. I wasn't devastated, but it did hurt. And I'm sad that the relationship didn't work out.
So who else reached that point where they knew they'd never be broken hearted again even though they still date, have relationships, etc., etc?

Posted: 2/12/2009 3:28:02 PM | My heart broke when my marriage ended. I grieved it for 3 days- non stop sobbing. My marriage wasn't a good one by any means.. I quess I just liked the whole idea of marriage. Ya know, to find someone to love and be loved for the rest of your life. I guess that only happens in the movies. (old movies)
Now, on a happier note: I haven't had my heart broke lately! | |

The affair lasted 7 years, he gave me the strength to understand what my husband was doing to me was not normal!!! The put me downs, the violence, the agony, The marriage is now over after 20 years and so is the affair. Yes i was sucidal but more in fear of been killed by my husband walked out with my 2 children and some suitcases. Womens aid was fantastic, I was numb through the pain, heartache, devastation, through what i had experienced in my marriage but that i thought my soul mate would have been there for me, now after months and months of councilling, I was just someone to have an affair with, He was not the man i thought he was, I find that out when i was texting him tellin him how affraid i was and i had to lock myself in my sons bedrooms to get away from him..... He just ignored me and stopped......... Well I have come through the experience...... Im smiling now, its good to be alive, Life is for living, I will find my soul mate one day, The freedom programme gave me that knowledge, that not every man is abusive and that there are nice men out there,, I have since meet 2 wonderful men, both lasted 6 months, think its me i get scared when they talk about marriage, how they want to spend the rest of thier lives with me. but i know i will find love one day and that he will never harm me............... | |

Posted: 2/25/2009 5:28:04 PM | Comin up on five years ago the love of my life decided he didn't love me anymore. It hurt like hell. If being heart broken wasn't enough, he kept coming back into my life "to test the waters" about two or three times after that for the following year. Because I was still madly and utterly in love with him, I allowed him to come back into my life. My bad....I know. But he'd stick around for a few months and then break up....so my heart wasn't only broken, it was then ran over with a semi and finally picked up and splattered all across a wall.
This one really did me in.

Posted: 2/26/2009 10:05:31 AM | July 1999. A 9 yr relationship ended and it left me totally devastated. I had put a LOT of myself in it, to the point of losing who I was. Big mistake.
I learned from that experience.
Since then, a few serious relationships, one ended badly, no heartbreak there at all but the other one hurt a little bit more. It takes me a while to move on but when I do, there is no going back. That's usually it.
I haven't closed my heart to another relationship. I know I can love again. | |

I guess it's partly my fault for expecting too much from her. We've hung out a couple of times, and we used to text each other a lot. She didn't reject me face-to-face, but I found out about it indirectly. And also, I may have overdone it a little bit, trying to get her to like me and everything. But, you don't learn your lessons if you don't experience these kinds of things, right? Maybe next time I'll know what to do and what not to do when I meet someone I like. | |

I am using tape to hold my heart together now and I am sure I forgot some pieces. | |

The way I look at it is this....if it was that good with the wrong person, imagine how great it's going to be with the right person. There's no way I can find the right person if i'm holding back because of my ex. I think being broken hearted is a part of life and you are hurting yourself more when you build the walls. | |

But in my life i can count on one hand the women i have truly cared for ,because i really do not get attached very easily, and everytime it's ended for one reason or another with me getting hurt. This time the lady in question was literally everything i had ever been looking for all my life . It has been months but i still think of her every day,i just cannot get over her. It might sound cliched ...call it a part of me dying , the day the music in me died, whatever. Sometimes i believe to balance out all the players there has to be people ,like me,who are just destined to be alone .At the moment I view the world in shades of grey and honestly sometimes wonder "is it worth it?" But the 1 percent of me that still has hope and optimism and believes maybe there are happy endings and good things do happen to good people,keeps me going.
To quote a line from a song " i wish that i could be in another time and place,with someone else's soul someone else's face".
anyhooo might be going of topic a wee bit there , but its nice to put some of how i feel down somewhere ;-) lol.
