Posted: 2/16/2009 9:01:23 PM | I think there are several factors that could affect the length of time that intercourse lasts.
1. Is this the couple's first time together?
2. How long has it been since the man has had intercourse? If a man is having regular sex with his partner then he has much more control of how long he can last. If a man has gone several months, or god forbid years, since last having intercourse, then things might be over rather quickly.
3. The same can be said for the woman, how in touch with her sexuality is she? does she rely exclusively on her partner to achieve orgasm, or does she lend a helping hand, or at least give verbal pointers?
4. What is the person's attitude towards intercourse? Does the partner actively participate or just lay there and wait for it to be over? As a guy, there is nothing that does more to kill an erection, than a partner that just lays there and does nothing. I can't speak for other guys, but just laying on top of my partner and thrusting away is just plain boring.
5. How old are the partners? If the guy is young, he may finnish quickly, but be ready to go again in 15 minutes. Whereas if he is older, he may not have the recovery and stamina that he had when he was younger, so he'll try to go longer but less often.
6. One thing that I think skews people's perceptions of sex and how long intercourse should last is the porn/adult entertainment industry. Porn stars are definitely an exception to the rule when it comes to stamina and staying power.
But I think the point everyone is misisng here is that sex isn't just about intercourse or penetration or how long it lasts. Sometimes sex doesn't have to involve penetration. Other times it might just be about pleasing your partner and not about your own needs. And it doesn't have to involve going multiple times each and every time. It's about the quality and intensity of the experience. Sometimes it's short, and to the point and totally mind blowing and other times it's the long drawn out tease. | |

Oh... and I don't know about anyone else... but unless it's a quickie over the kitchen table... I do not have "other things to do".
Damn that sounds good!! Nothing like combining sex with one of my favorite places, the kitchen!! LOL
I've gotta say average is about 20-40 minutes including foreplay. A quickie is a good 5-10 minutes, no real foreplay (well maybe just what's needed to get everything "ready").

Motel and hotel porn videos that are ordered are watched approximately 11-12 minutes. i..e masturbating or sex is over by then. Otherwise sex institute timed couples and found 12 minutes to be average. So generally most people do it in 10-12 minutes. | |

Then some keep on going like Energizer bunnies, climaxing again and again....
There is no one answer- I average 40 minutes, my X girlfriend averaged 6 minutes, so she was sore and had to stop before I was even close to orgasm....
I once dated a women a few years back and we'd go nonstop all night, till sunrise.
Everyone is different.
Thus its a big reason why sexualy compatibility is VERY importnat in a relationship.

A survey of sex therapists concluded the optimal amount of time for sexual intercourse was 3 to 13 minutes. The findings, to be published in the May issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, strike at the notion that endurance is the key to a great sex life.
If that sounds like good news to you, don't cheer too loudly. The time does not count foreplay, and the therapists did rate sexual intercourse that lasts from 1 to 2 minutes as "too short."
Researcher Eric Corty said he hoped to ease the minds of those who believe that "more of something good is better, and if you really want to satisfy your partner, you should last forever."
The questions were not gender-specific, said Corty (who, it must be noted, is male). But he said prior research has shown that both men and women want foreplay and sexual intercourse to last longer.
Dr. Irwin Goldstein, editor of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, cited a four-week study of 1,500 couples in 2005 that found the median time for sexual intercourse was 7.3 minutes. (Women were armed with stopwatches.)
It's difficult for both older men and young men to make sexual intercourse last much longer, said Marianne Brandon, a clinical psychologist and director of Wellminds Wellbodies in Annapolis, Md.
"There are so many myths in our culture of what other people are doing sexually," Brandon said. "Most people's sex lives are not as exciting as other people think they are."
Fifty members of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research in the U.S. and Canada were surveyed by Corty, an associate professor of psychology at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and student Jenay Guardiani. Thirty-four members, or 68 percent, responded, although some said the optimal time depended on the couple.
Corty said he hoped to give an idea of what therapists find to be normal and satisfactory among the couples they see.
"People who read this will say, 'I last five minutes or my partner lasts 8 minutes,' and say, 'That's OK,'" he said. "They will relax a little bit."

During the marathons there's a lot of teasing and toys and switching things up.... playtime!
The rest of the time it's usually some form of the missionary position... so we can see each others faces, kiss, "whisper sweet nothings"... for 1 to 2 hours.... at least once a day.
We actually try to make the foreplay last as long as possible but I don't think we ever last more than 5 minutes.... can't help it, we turn each other on...
After the first hour or so we have a quick smoke break..... she's usually exhausted by then, but we don't wanna stop.

I spent many, many years learning how to control myself and be a better lover... and that was great when I was on the prowl, seeing 2 or 3 women at a time and being The Other Guy for unsatisfied wives... but now that I've found someone that I'm compatible with and ... LOVE... (YES, Von Erik said the L word!) ... I worry about wearing her out... or our sex life becoming a burden for her, or that... at this rate she'll need a hip replacement before she's 50. Not that she's complaining... FAR from it... but I am trying to adjust and let myself get off sooner. So far our quickest quicky is about 45 minutes.
