| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/26/2009 9:44:32 AM | The best way to lose fat is through food choices, calorie counting and portion control. Not to mentin Low Fat, Low Sugar and Low Sodium. There are formulas available to you I will mention below that do work. so if you do about 5 hours or more of exercise a week follow this formula. Ideal weight times 18. 180x18=3240 calories To convert grams of say fat on a label into calories do the following. 54gx9=485calories from fat. That is really what you should have in your diet as well. You want 25% of your daily intake of calories from fat. Y calories/total calories per servingx100=Z% Other wise I'd kick it Canada food guide syle! Also refer to the Glycemic Index and keep your food choies below 55. Low GI means a smaller rise in blood glucose levels after meals, it can help you lose weight, can help refuel carbohydrate stores after execercise, keep you fuller for a longer period of time and prolong physical endurance. So what I like to do is have a starch and fruit for breakfast (low GI) then go for a workout there after. About 1/2 hour after the workout I would then eat egg whites or a protien suppliment, low in carbs. As man however you need to eat much more protien, like 4 servings. I perfer the lean protiens for weight loss. Skinless chicken, white fish. Limit canned tuna to 3-4 times a week. Same with Salmon. I would stick with those protiens for weight loss then slowly incorporate red meat back into your diet. Wath dairy consumption as well. Watch serving sizes on any packaged foods (although I dont reccommend packages foods) Watch that you dont have more than 25% of yor calories in carbs from sugar.
I hope that helps! | |

Remember that for every cup of coffee you have in a day, match it with and extra cup of water. Try and sweeten your coffee with Stevia bought in any health food store and low fat milk or simply frink it black or switch to teas. Green tea is greatfor weight loss and contains caffene. Sorry for the typos and stuff, I gotta learn to proof read. But you get the idea...

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/26/2009 10:30:14 AM | Casma163, that's the only way I have ever lost weight. When I had my first baby, I gained 55 pounds. I'm 5' 4", My baby was 6 pounds. So, I had a long way to go. I remembered my mom dieted successfully when I was in high school. She had a chart in the kitchen I read that had four food groups and a 1200 calorie per day program. I thought that would be easy enough. God a calorie book and kept track, as the writer of your link said, EVERY thing that went in my mouth, gum, olive, whatever. I logged every detail. I lost ten pounds in two weeks. It was pretty amazing. I didn't try eating the calories of the intended goal weight, but that's a good idea. I lost all my baby weight really quickly, and I ate healthier than ever. I focused on vegys, salads, naturally cut butter and all the extras I would use on foods. After a pretty short time, you lose the taste for them. I MEASURED EVERYTHING!
My mom noticed I had lost my baby weight and said how proud of me she was. I told her I just did what I saw her do when I was in high school. She said what I didn't know was her doctor had also perscribed diet pills (back then, bennies). So, you don't need that junk to do the job. Like I said, I ate better than ever and got down to where I was before.

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/27/2009 4:09:32 PM | Hi there,
There is also a trick to shed weight when you reach that plato, our bodies become totally used to the exercise we do. Eg I'm an ex amature cyclist. Its nearly impossible for me to shed weight cycling. My body is totally used to it, some people call it muscle memory. For me to loose weight I have to do something my body will not like. That was using a seated rowing machine. Within 1 month I had lost all the weight I was wanting to loose. You see my legs were use to a punishing work out, my arms, and back were not.

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/27/2009 4:25:56 PM | Am NOT a licensed medical professional.
Now I know my body isn't like someone else's, so that being a fact, I had to find a routine that fits my body and needs. Because of this I keep a journal and in reading it I found that roughly every 9-10 weeks my body gets used to a certain routine and as such it slows down.
So then I switch routines. Where I was doing machine work outs more, including the treadmill, I then change to something like shooting baskets, simple outdoor hikes of three miles one way. Bike riding, skiing, etc.
This is why I like weather related sports. In the summer its swimming, tennis, hikes, rowing. Winter its indoor work outs and skiing. From spring to fall I like kayaking, walking, hikes etc. So I am rarely bored.
When in SF or San Jose areas I see scads of men/women walking/running around park areas, shorelines, neighborhoods. Sometimes I think we need to think outside the box.

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/27/2009 9:50:13 PM | | That's wha im' talkin about! I think getting activity related exercise is really important. Not only for the workout, burning what you need to burn, etc., but for the wonderful memories and shared experiences with friends, or on your own. Two years ago, I got hooked on long, easy hikes. My friends kept barking at me about going off on my own, but I couldn't get anyone to go. Then, the more I went, the less I wanted to go with another person. But, like you're saying, getting out to move around, even keeping the yard or clearing property is super. I want to snowshoe if it's not too late. If it is, maybe next year. | |

One thing is clear, you're definitely going to have to live a very active lifestyle. I've heard of this condition a lot but i've never actually dealt with anyone with it. Sorry, I know this wasn't all that helpful.

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/29/2009 12:44:50 PM | Just remember when you ask for help, to try it out but don't be discouraged if it doesn't work. What works for one person may not work for you, I ran for two years playing soccer, and stayed at a size 14 (and what I wouldn't give to be back down to that haha) but I never lost fat in my stomach from it. What's right for me when working out isn't even what's right for my own mother because we're all different.
For the people who say "eat raw fruits and veggies for a month" or I know someone who's on a soup diet right now, that may be great for losing weight fast, but if you don't keep it up it's also great for gaining weight back quickly. Make sure that what you decide to do is something that you can maintain for a while or you will, usually, gain the weight back.
As far as counting calories, that's great but what you should be more concerned about are the fat calories and taking in a bunch of empty calories. If you look at your dinner and it has 300 calories in it, not so bad right? However, if it's 300 calories and has 240 fat calories, you may want to rethink your dinner. Certain fruits and veggies actually have what's called negative calories which means you're taking in less calories than it takes to digest what you're eating. An apple has between 44-60 calories and it usually takes about 100 calories to digest it. Eat foods like that that you love, and exercises and remember when you've hit your target keep eating like that.
Also, your body won't lose the weight if it doesn't need to. Everyone has their own healthy body weight.

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/29/2009 7:23:19 PM | I get really tired of people saying you need to count calories....You do, but to a certain extent...
You need to look at what makes up the calories you are consuming, rather than just total calories...
something can have 100 calories, but if it's all derived from fat would you want it?

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/29/2009 8:10:13 PM | | I dont get why people count calories, either....maybe it is something from weight watchers, but I have seen a few people do that and balloon right back up...I think the key for some is retraining yourself to eat when you are hungry vs. during stressful or emotional eating...Eat when you are hungry and dump junk foods and other empty calories... | |

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/29/2009 8:25:18 PM | Yes,
I agree maddy.
And and having a routine meal plan will work wonders.
3 meals per day is key.
My background, personal trainer, into bodybuilding, competitive powerlifter.....
My main meal plan when attempting to lose weight
8am: first meal of the day 1 cup of oatmeal (plain) 1 Grapefruit 1 glass of orange juice 1 glass of coffee
Go to the gym for about 2 hours (I reccomend less for you)
11am Back from gym. I have a quick protein shake...This is to retain the muscle I have and not get into a catabolic state of being from doing excsesive strength and cardio training.
Noon 2 Chicken breasts grilled on the foreman, with lemon/pepper Brown rice (1 cup) 1 Yam (med size)
4pm protein shake
6 pm some other meat, perhaps tuna.....honestly getting tired of typing lol

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/30/2009 12:25:49 AM | Haha, godfather, I know a lot of personal trainers/dietitians who would disagree with you about the three meals per day being key. Most I have talked to say lots of small (healthy) meals a day is better, especially for building metabolism. However, really it's customed to your body.
I used to have a nutritionist/personal trainer, who cut my calorie intake down to a healthy, but lowish level. However, I had learned to eat in a way where I didn't actually have to count calories. Then I had to see someone other than my regular nutritionist who tried to tell me I needed to cut my calories lower than 1000 and that 1,100 would be pushing it. That's when you know there's something wrong.
If you learn to eat in a healthy way you won't actually have to count calories, and again it's not so much the calories as fat/empty calories. Every once in a while, it's ok though to indulge in a slice or two of pizza.

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 3/30/2009 10:49:09 PM | Maddy and godfather,
You are both guys and one of you, Maddy, is nearly 6' tall. There's a big difference between someone your height and metabolism and a 5'4" female. I just burn less calories than you. Counting calories has worked successfully for me and I've kept it off. Calories are merely a way to keep track of, what I've heard described as, how much wood you're putting on the fire. Calories are simply, "Food energy is the amount of energy in food that is available through digestion". If you're successful not counting - fantastic. I can tell you what works for me. I eat very healthy, balanced and lower portion meals. It works.

The best way to lose fat is through food choices, calorie counting and portion control. Not to mentin Low Fat, Low Sugar and Low Sodium.
You're wrong. Coconut oil actually helps increase metabolism. You can actually lose fat consuming coconut oil. You won't lose huge amounts but it's very small amounts but they all add up. You do realize some fruits are high in sugar? Fruits doesn't make you fat. Actually it is easier to lose weight consuming fruit because you are getting the nutrients your body craves for.

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 4/1/2009 11:47:24 PM | | Well, I'm not going to argue with PerfectWeapon's results or knowledge. I'm sure what he is saying is accurate. However, I do think raceme is right that counting calories is helpful. I'm not a bodybuilder; I just want to maintain a healthy body fat % (around 15%). I found this easy to do in the summer because I do lots of strenuous bicycling, but keep me inside with a few weeks of bad winter weather and I'd start ballooning up. Keeping a spreadsheet that computed my basal metabolic rate at various activity levels (the equation is on the net), my actual activity level, and my daily calories helped me to quickly determine how I was sabotaging myself. I'm fairly tall--even sedentary my BMR is close to 2400 calories--and I eat healthy meals, but it's still amazing how easy it is to blow right past that number with little effort if you don't pay close attention to what and how much you eat. And you only have to put down '1500' for a Big Mac a few times and watch what it does to your totals to see real quick why eating like that is a bad idea. Sure, the trainer with a regimen doesn't need to do this, but for the average Joe/Jane who just wants to understand portion control and food choices, it's a great tool. | |

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 4/2/2009 8:14:59 AM | In theory you are correct however you don't know how to listen to your body and know how to eat. Sure having a rough ideal is good but when you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables you will know how much to eat for the other foods. I don't eat processed foods period. When I do I feel like crap so why would I? One of the thing is people tend to forget to consume healthy amounts of fats. Portion control is never an issue if you eat a large serving of vegetables. To count calories you need to plan ahead, it is highly unlikely an average joe will stick with it. Unless you're a serious into physical activity or competition or into body building it's just a waste of time and for most people it's more prone to failure because it involves a lot of work. | |

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 4/2/2009 8:54:02 AM | Yes, that is a great way to look at it...I suspect there are a lot of people that simply are not learning to eat when they are hungry and when to stop and good foods.
I have seen people on the calorie counter diet plans like weight watchers that work while they are on them and then gain the weight back plus more because they never made lifestyle changes. One person that I know went back to emotional overeating of mac and cheese and ice cream, etc. ...That is what I consider "counting calories"...vs. somebody that eats good foods that make them feel well and not hungry. Also, I agree that it is good to know how many calories are in certain foods. The example of McDonalds food is a good one and would push people to avoid it.

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 4/5/2009 12:14:18 AM | | I have always found eating a high protein diet coupled with a high intake of veggies as your main carb source is the fastest way to lose weight. It is ok to add some fruit too. Staying away from Alcohol was an easy 5 lbs for me. If ya can eat every hour to 2 hours is good too . Just eat very small amount of food. | |

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 4/5/2009 11:00:45 PM | | eno's right about the cardio. first thing in the morning(a half hour is about right) about a half hour later take a recovery drink(30-50grams of protein double the grams in higher glycemic carbs) this allows your body to replace your muscle glycogen and ups your fat burning potential. eat small frequent meals. sipping a recovery drink through the day instead of a meal. two grams fish oil,two grams flaxseed oil. stay very well hydrated, fully hydrated muscules can absorb more nutrients than lesser hydrated ones. if you only have one time you can workout that day try a 25% warmup, 50% training(compounds first fewer work sets) and 25% after with a smaller sized recovery drink after and get plenty of sleep. remember the body needs to repair and recover before muscles can grow. more muscle mass higher metabolic rate. lots of smart people here. i'm about your size and i lost about 20 lbs of fat and put 2 plates on my leg press and a quarter on my bench in six weeks doing a less intense version of this program | |

| What's the fastest way to lose fat? Posted: 4/8/2009 2:50:54 PM | | For who Maddy??? lmfao Weight training if done correctly sure as hell does burn fat, combined with a stable diet. I lost more lifting weights 5 days a week eating 6 small meals (high protein LOW carb) than any cardio. So.....not everyone functions the same way. We all have such different body types. What works for one may NOT work for another. Maybe weight training vs. cardio works well for people. It did for me, that is a promise. When we eat...may or may not make a difference. I know for me it did. I tried 2 different ways of doing things, and I found by starting at 6 am, every 3 hours, eating smal meals was 10 times more productive than just randomly eating. | |
