he still not a free man he is not going to prop the bar up in his local again, i think they only made him a free man as he is not expected to live long, also prison guards 2 to 3 by his bed how much is that cost , in his state of health not likely to do a runner, in a way he has still one up on the system as he would have not got the treatment in brazil

Baby Peter's killers will serve half of their sentences.

Biggs has served less than a third of his.

however, I don’t think the same can be said about a man who is on his deathbed, being tube fed, etc.

Funny how he 'perked up' when the guards left, if the picture in todays paper is anything to go by

Which for Baby Peter's killers is 2.5 years and 6 years and for Biggs is 10 years. So killing a child (and raping another) results in nearly half the sentence of a minor part in an armed robbery.

Just the point I was making...

My gut feeling is that banking can be legalised dishonesty and in a perverse kind of way I quite admire Biggs.n He should do time but worse criminals get to enjoy their old age.

The whole point is that had he not chosen to escape and go on the run for so long, he would have been out and enjoying his old age years ago, he alone is ultimatey responsible for his situation.

Its my gut reaction, how many times have you wanted to beat the system? And who supported the credit crunch- yep banks for irresponsible lending? Its true though that if he hadn't been caught late he might have been free now.
The justice system seems to give longer sentences for financial loss than rape, child abuse or violent thuggery. Spose thats what annoys me.

He HAS beaten the system, He's served less than a third of his sentence and would'nt have served any more than the 15 months he served before his escape in 1965 had he not needed the free medical treatment from the country he's been laughing at for 40 years.

I'm not sure where banking comes into the argument, has there been a trial and a too lenient sentence dished out to them?

So basically you think he should be free once a comparison has been made with a more recent sentence handed out for a more serious crime?

I can just imagine the clamour from those serving more than 6 years for armed robbery!

The fact is that Biggs received a heavy sentence to compensate for the fact that his crime still carried the death penalty in the 1960s. Robbing The Royal Mail was like stealing from the Crown, and so his sentence had to reflect the seriousness of his offence.

I think many people were shocked at how lenient the sentences that were handed down to Baby Peter's killers are, but they should not be used as a template for sentences that we handed out 4o-odd years ago when sentencing was more 'realistic'.

So, are you suggesting that Baby Peter's killers should only serve a third of their sentences?

yes he should be free, if terrorist can be set free after planning to kill thousands then he should be free now, for gods sake a peado can get released after 4 years, the only reason his still in prison is because he made a fool of the government they dont care about the guard that died, so yes ronnie biggs should be free
