Why is it so hard to talk about Race? When Do we the people Of Canada talk about Race

The universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice. It speaks in the language of hope.
It speaks in the language of trust. It speaks in the language of strength and the language of compassion. It is the language of hhe heart and the language of the soul. But always it is the same voice. It is the voice of our ancestors speaking through us the the voice of our inheritors waiting to be orn. The small siull voice that says: "We are one. No matter the blood, no matter the skin, no matter the city , no matter the country. We are one. No matter the pain, no matter the darkness, no matter the loss, no matter the fear. We are one"
Gathered together in a common cause, we begin to realize this singular thruth and this singular rule that we must be kind to one another. Because each voice enriches us and ennobles us and each voice lost diminshes us. We are the voice of the world, the soul of creation, the fire that will light our way to a better future. "We are one."

Thank you joansie1122 ... just loved it!

I find that it is very easy to talk about ethnicity amongst the people I work with, the particular group I work with is truly multicultural.

We talk about it in a positive way, learning about each others' cultures and learning to recognize, acknowledge and sometimes celebrate the traditions of others.

It is most important to recognize different cultural needs when dealing with the health and emotional needs of clients/patients.

I think when we get over being scared about offending people because of differences, we can truly begin to respect, learn and celebrate the differences.

We are not all the same. It is most important to recognize the differences and understand them with respect-not to uncomfortably ignore them and pretend we are all the same.

Yes, thanks Joansie:) This quote brought to mind an article I read years ago about the World's disappearing languages. The author was talking about the hundreds of languages that had already been lost , and the slow but certain death of many more. He talked about the homogenization of societies, and its relevence to languages.

For instance how we describe our world to each other, depending on where you live and what you experience. Northern communities have many, many ways of describing snow for instance that we are not familiar with. The same is probably true for wind, rain, etc. in other parts of the world. That is just a small example, but it helps us to understand how diverse and fascinating each culture's language is. Our differences are what make us rich and vital, and if we do not honour and keep them, if we loose a language, we loose part of our voice.
