^it's probably best to read a whole thread when it comes to site issues/problems....
here's the one that explains the problems bottom of page 1...I've darkened the present issues I suspect are still going on....
shame it's added in bright red in the subject title it's 'all fixed now' when it's not quite... but I have faith it will be! :)

I'm rebuilding all the database servers, probably another 30 minutes till it comes back online. And its going to be pretty slow or choppy till i get the bugs figured out.

why arent the moderators replying and letting us know what the problem is....im sure we would be happier if they said its a bit of a mess at the moment and we are trying to fix it rather than just say nothing at all.
The moderators are volunteers... I think it's unreasonable to expect that they be online constantly in order to respond to each individual question which is posed to them...

Especially when that question has been answered if one would have taken the time to read the thread as the lady above indicated...

Patience... No Notifications???
Posted: 3/1/2009 6:40:21 AM
For everyone concerned about a "lack" of communication, what would you suggest?

Would a message at the usual home page stating something like, ".. System Maintenance is being performed. Please try again in xx hours ..".
-or-
".. Unscheduled System Maintenance is being performed. Please try again in xx hours ..".
-or-
".. Due to rogue security hackers, the system is experiencing request issues. Please try again in xx hours ..".

I also work as a volunteer for a web based hosting service and have to balance the information with the "need to scare users" along with "giving satisfaction to the hackers knowing they hurt us".

FREE Site + Volunteers.

I think it's one thing to 'ask' - what or if there is a problem .. but the Complaining some of y'all are doing??? wow

Demand your money back = Seriously. Then let us know how you do.

And this Expecting VOLUNTEER Moderators to "work" as if You are paying them??? wtf??

Volunteer = performs a Service for others = Free of charge, as an act of Kindness / Giving

FREE Site = No monetary charge - No obligation to provide service Or access to said service.

Sorta like being in someone's home - Their Rules apply. Sometimes we 'all' need to lock the doors and clean house. Perhaps Marcus is just getting to dusting off (aka - tweaking) .. that little bug.

.. Could be an interesting way to get those who've never before, playin in these here forums .. hehehe .. fresh blood.. mmmm

Can't imagine if I were providing a FREE service that whining about Any downtime would inspire me to "hurry it up"!! lol .. zzzzZZZZ

*G* show some pity for the Mods/Admins!
Posted: 3/1/2009 7:17:33 AM
well I think we would be happy with the TRUE ... this wasnt maintenance like the thread says .... so why try to tell us that .... we are not stupid .... we would have more faith (and ongoing faith) if they just said ...."hey sorry guys but we have technical problems that has come from outside our own POF system and we are doing all we can to fix it and we will keep you updated as to how we are doing"

now is that too hard to type..... ????

Thing is, we have to understand a few things. It is maintenance, as they're fixing something that is broken, whether from a bug/coding issue, or if its an external source (I'm hoping not, but scriptkiddies are known to be complete $)(*#^&... back on topic!).

You should have tons of faith in people that volunteer their time, effort, money, etc that could have instead been invested in their families and personal lives.

And yeah, when you're up to your ears in configuration files, code, eyeballing databases, running over to another window/computer to see if the last change did the trick... its a pretty big deal to stop, check the forums, reply here and there, end up sidetracked and forgetting what you're doing... and this is the simple explanation of what the guys/gals are dealing with right now on a nice weekend when they could have been doing other things.

Maybe we should all get together, find out the address where they're all at, and get a local company to deliver a HUGE pot of premium 'kick-in-the-pants' joe, and about a quarter-tonne of aspirin. They'd at least see the appreciation, even if they're already overdosed on caffeine and headache meds :P

You guys rock. I salute you.

there is more than 1 moderator and it would be on nice for an "update" now and then.....that is what i was meaning......

Yes there's all two of us on a volunteer basis.

Im still having probs with the site....its now sunday lunch time .....moving from page to page is taking forever and some are still coming up with error on page......

That's nice - find something else to occupy your time with - the site owner is in Pacific Standard Time and still asleep no doubt.

Here is your update located in post one of this thread:

Look for Admin remarks throughout the thread for updates regarding the main site

Just be patient. -

now is that too hard to type..... ????

yes it is while we're asleep in Eastern Standard Time Zone

When fixing computer related issues, it's difficult to estimate when things will be back up - logging in and finding that the site isn't working won't make it get fixed any faster by you posting every so often that it isn't working.

Admin does get notified automatically when there are equpment malfunctions, consequently he will be working on the problem when he gets up, and as an FYI, he doesn't personally call us either - we find out the same time you do.

still getting
http://www.plentyoffish.com/friends.aspx?SID=4wl0vs55sn5a3bfwifwcam45&Guid=9847982

to those of you for whom this is a major, life-threating issue, i would suggest that this is a free sight maintained by unpaid volunteers (of which and I am NOT one, and to whom I'd like to say thanks)...read a book or, if you MUST stare at a screen, watch a
TV or a movie.

This really blows! Somewhere out there--- is a very compatable couple that got together yesterday or before and they are probably waking up and cuddling one another while the rest of sit here alone and can't even answer all of those hot emails (that we dream of getting) LOL

Relax people the admin is surely doing all they can.

LOl, this is page 4, and the complaints are like the world has come to an end...

A person has to really have no life... Has to raise hand with other fellow POFers, since I am on here, to be on and wondering what is wrong with the site... Actually I figured something went sideways, but stumbled across this thread, since once again instead of doing ohhh my mid term I am on here.

Lucky me, I only entertain myself on the forums anyway...

For the rest... Sorry to see the distress, this day will soon be over, at least it isn't your whole computer system that is down, that is when things really bite

This is a FREE Site. It requires a fair bit of time and energy from a man who owes us Nothing. It is monitored and maintained by VOLUNTEER Moderators.

These people have lives - the owner and mods. They also Sleep. They are Not at our beck and call, nor are they obliged to answer to 'us'.

Sure, it 'may be' frustrating if you can't access that mail - I'm sure we'll all survive it.

Regardless. This is a MINOR inconvenience to us - the site Users. I'm sure it is a royal pain in the a$$ for the Owner and Mods.

I think we should be saying "Thank You for the site, for putting up with our "demands"! lol .. for overlooking those with entitlement issues .. for your Time and Commitment to our entertainment."

Thank You Marcus!! Thank You Volunteers!!
