| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/1/2009 12:24:43 PM | Thank you Marcus, many a happy successful POFers, and complainers wish you a great happy birthday... Meh such is the transition from toddlerhood to elementary level...
Happy to be here, and apparently not so happy alike appreciate having a place to come to meet people, to make friends, and to be entertained, as well as informed on the forums...
To many more birthdays, and future successes, unhappiness, complaints, and all on a site they didn't pay a dime to get on to...
Thanks.... | |

| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/1/2009 3:33:38 PM | Call the GeekSquad or take it to Radio Shack!
I'm sure they can help.
Seriously though, I'm sure all of the offers to help are appreciated.
But anybody who has ever done a ground-up restoration of an old car, all by themself, will understand Admin's relationship with pof.
This is his baby! And ain't nobody touching it, other than him!
Markus, your site has been a blessing to so many people, myself included! Thank you.
And happy B-day to pof! | |

2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application:
Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode. The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode.
Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario.

| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/2/2009 1:48:25 PM | | Your getting that error because no browser information is being passed to POF.com and normally 99% of pagerequests that do that are from spam bots. | |

| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/2/2009 2:52:12 PM | Just to inform, what is still happening for me is the long threads in the poetry and quote forums (really long ones 200-300+ pages), the 200 plus ones are still very slow to load, and the 300 plus ones are going too slowly, it seems, resulting in the error message the poster above is receiving. Other poetry forum posters, though, seem to be able to post even on the especially long haiku thread, so then I wonder if it's a general issue, or just me experiencing this?
On a different subject, although a day late, Happy Birthday POF!! You're a great site....thinking of starting perhaps a new thread somewhere called, "Now We Are Six"....though I'm sure that title's been used before.

|
| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/2/2009 3:19:48 PM | | Yup^^^^ same thing here....loading taking a long time on those threads, resulting in the server error page showing. All other forums are working well. Threads over the limit mentioned above are hard to access. | |

| Main Site Error Posted: 3/2/2009 9:07:16 PM | | Yes, I appreciate the free site and am very grateful to the volunteers. But from what I've read in the press, Marcus the admin has made a fortune from this site. So maybe he should share that with the volunteers. So why are they volunteering when he is getting rich from this free site? | |

Do you think you would run a site that has this many visitors a day, has the potential to crash and cause mayhem in your life, and all for absolutely nothing in return?
We should be grateful that they don't turn it into a paid site, to get even more money.
And the volunteers sure aren't complaining. They're volunteers, and can stop any time they want. If I had the time, *I* would volunteer!
Think about it. | |

| Main Site Error Posted: 3/3/2009 9:54:36 AM | | Markus, could you please respond to posts: 133,135, and 136? I am experiencing the same problem - I get the same "timed out" message that RKnack copied in post #133 of this thread. The longer poetry threads such as the Haiku game just won't load. A little help, por favore? | |

| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/3/2009 3:35:17 PM | What would be causing this? I'm running Firefox (newest release), and I've got it set to accept cookies.

| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/3/2009 8:37:53 PM | | So I read the first message and followed the link - it has nothing to do with my problem except the post by admin that strange things requiring weeks to figure out are happening. Maybe Trappedonbayst you could save people some time by just saying that? Just a thought - don't ban me! | |

If you'll note the post you are referring to:
What would be causing this? I'm running Firefox (newest release), and I've got it set to accept cookies. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Read the first message in this thread and follow the link - Trappedonbayst The above signed annotation you read, was not directed at you, but rather the owner of the message where the annotation was left.
If I were replying to you, I would either do it this way, or leave an annotation in your own post, hence, the directions you assumed were for you had nothing to do with your query, but merely to an errant "whats going on" post with no specifics, that could have been easily answered if they had read the first post.
You'll have to wait for admin to answer you specific querry.

| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/3/2009 9:21:21 PM | | In 5 years thats the most bizzaire issue i've ever seen. Some kind of wierd database caching issue or something. It ran 100% fine in the database but from the webpage it took forever. I went and renamed a stored procedure and it works now.. But i haven't the faintest idea why. | |
|
| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/3/2009 9:43:20 PM | I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. RKnack is (I think) having the same problem that I am. It has nothing to do with the Mail/Profile side of the site, but only the forum side. And in the forums, everything works and loads fine except the longer threads. So I should have made this more clear in my original post. I am not trying to cause any trouble, I'm just trying to make admin aware of the specific nature of my problem. And you guys are obviously very capable and will get it sorted out soon I'm sure.
I couldn't read or access e-mail for about a week but that issue resolved. This seems to be a different deal, and I'm not really expecting admin to respond to my query, since I'm one of what - a million people who use POF, I just wanted to help out.
thank you for your prompt response, and thank you all for making this amazing website possible! Sincerely, Jason

| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/5/2009 12:48:56 PM | | Actually, the error message I was (and STILL am) getting happens when I try to access any thing BUT the forums. I even get it when I try to log in on the main POF page! This is getting annoying. Doesn't matter if I run Explorer or Firefox, I get the same error message that I posted above. | |

| Things happen for a reason... Posted: 3/9/2009 11:23:45 AM | RE msg 144 by Admin:
In 5 years thats the most bizzaire issue i've ever seen. Some kind of wierd database caching issue or something. It ran 100% fine in the database but from the webpage it took forever. I went and renamed a stored procedure and it works now.. But i haven't the faintest idea why. I used to have that problem with Microsoft SQL Server 6.5. The database server would cache all stored procedures, and if I changed a stored procedure that was called by something else, say another stored procedure, the server would update the stored procedure that I called, but the ones that called it would still use the old cached version.
The stored procedures that called it, needed to be updated, to use the new code. I tried saving them again, but if they hadn't changed, it didn't register to recheck everything again.
So I had to sometimes "rap it on its head" to wake it up. I used to deliberately put some code that would fail, into the stored procedures that called my new procedure. Then I'd save it. Then I'd run it. That would make the computer realise there was a problem with that procedure. Then I'd put it back the way it was, and this time, the server would check everything out, as if it was a new procedure, and pick up the new code.
