| I WON'T eat this without??? Posted: 5/13/2009 1:57:26 PM | My spaghetti sauce seems to always need some ground chili paste in it.
Yes, I know that it's not traditional Italian. Being Dutch Indonesian most of all the food I grew up with, was all Fusion foods.
So, Italian and Indonesian equals, spicy spaghetti sauce. I like just a little heat so that you notice it, but it's not over bearing.

Cheeseburgers are a must, with either bbq sauce or fresh toppings. Steamed clams with ghee (clarified butter). Yogurt with ground flax seed, fresh fruit. Scrambled eggs with tabasco. Roast beef with horseradish.
Anything else, I'm open to trying something new.

| I WON'T eat this without??? Posted: 9/5/2009 10:19:01 PM | Gosh, I thought this was interesting because I just do not have hardly ANY of these kinds of restrictions. I had to think a whole hour to come up with these few...
Like some others here, I MUST have mustard (never ketchup) with a hot dog or corn dog I would NEVER ever consider eating turkey and cornbread dressing without cranberry sauce Lobster without drawn butter is NEVER going to happen. I don't eat lobster as a casserole either Some southern foods I wouldn't consider sitting down to without a glass of iced tea, sugar optional
I cannot think of another thing I am that picky about or that I do not have one or more alternatives for.

I would never consider eating a tortilla chip without a dip, salsa, or something of the sort

| I WON'T eat this without??? Posted: 9/6/2009 9:13:18 AM | my MUSTs revolve around ketchup do's and don'ts...
grilled cheese MUST have ketchup or tomato soup/gazpacho for dipping. the tomato acidity cuts the greasiness of the cheese and buttery grilled bread perfectly.
english battered fish & chips MUST have tartar sauce. eating the fish with only ketchup instead is pure blasphemy!
and when i'm having a nostalgic KD moment, it MUST be served with ketchup. it just doesn't seem right without it.

| I WON'T eat this without??? Posted: 9/12/2009 2:43:07 PM | Vinegar preferred to ketchup on my fries. Mustard, NO KETCHUP, on my corndog. Tobasco on eggs and steak. Mustard on my fritos. Vinegar or lemon/lime on fish/seafood, YUK to tarter sauce, guess that is because I don't like mayo except in potato, egg, tuna or chicken salads. Go figure.
I think the majority of our food likes/dislikes are rooted in our growing up. Thankfully my mom cooked anything and everything and gave me lots of options for an adventerous palet.

| I WON'T eat this without??? Posted: 9/12/2009 5:32:44 PM | Ohhhhhhh Abby,
In the 1960's and before, in Texas, a proper Sunday dinner was fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, a few green vegetables and maybe another starchy or yellow one, AND either fresh jalapenos, or a jar of HOT pickled peppers. No chicken dinner was complete without it. In fact, when I was growing up in Texas, no set table was complete without the hot chiles and that was every household I knew.

Soft pretzels with MUSTARD... it's a must.
Pizza with a dollop of sour cream on each slice... I don't care if you think it sounds weird, just try it. It's fabulous.
Chili, a big bowl with chopped fresh onions, sour cream and shredded cheddar on top. On the side is a big piece of fresh cornbread with honey on it. YUM!
Mmmmm.... wow. That sounds so good. **running off to start cooking a pot of chili**

| I WON'T eat this without??? Posted: 9/14/2009 3:48:35 AM | Isn't it amazing how we have such food combos? Some are traditional, some have been developed. I don't think it is so much we WON'T eat this without this...we just prefer to have the combos. Everyone has a different palet...which explains why I prefer tobascco on eggs and someone else cannot understand that combo. I don't lose the taste of the eggs--it enhances it for me. Some of the choices are cultural--while I am American--ketchup on fries--I prefer English-malt vinegar on 'chips'. My former father-in=law put vinegar on potatoes. Sounds awful-but it amounts to the same thing-vinegar on potatoes-I prefered mine as steak fries and he liked the mash. I like pepper on watermelon, others salt and others plain. There are many combos you have never tried--I suggest you try before you go ewwwwwwhh.
Some people can't eat steak without some kind of sauce and others don't want to put anything on a good steak. A lot of our choices came from the house we grew up in and the rest from the contacts we have made.
Whatever you eat, eat well and enjoy it.

Baby potatoes - gotta have the white vinegar and salt on them.
Chicken strips - gotta have Miracle Whip Low Cal.
Fish sticks - need Kraft Tartar Sauce.
Ham - needs French's horseradish mustard.
Fries - need salt and white vinegar.
Any kind of beef - needs fresh garlic and sauteed mushrooms and onions.
Chicken wings - need a cold beer (Canadian of course).
Pizza - needs garlic sauce.

Fresh liver sausage sandwich has to have honey on it... It is the best.......
|
| I WON'T eat this without??? Posted: 9/18/2009 2:52:16 PM | Chili HAS to be served with a Grilled Cheese sandwich and plenty of dill pickle slices!
Liver sausage? We have liver mush in the mountains of North Carolina, it's like liver pudding but with country sausage seasoning, and it tastes more like sausage than liver. Great stuff and it must be served with grits ~and~ country pork sausage, the 3 together are really good!
