Been visiting Florida for 30 years, and always said I'd move there one day. Great weather, beaches, amusement parks, spring baseball, horse/dog tracks. All it took was a couple of divorces and finally had the freedom to move! LOL

Pssssstt.......Jason.....last time I checked I-75, I-95, I-4 & I-10 were all wide open and moving along quite nicely in a NORTHERN direction.

If it's so bad here why not migrate back north?

No place, other then Vegas & San Diego, I'd rather live (in the US).

I've lived here all my life lol. I've been to other states, I just like Florida better. Doesn't change the fact that Florida is hot. I just don't like heat.

Well then, do tell me.......maybe WE don't mind the heat, maybe WE live here for the heat......why does that make us all "wrong" for wanting to live & enjoy life here?

I have lived in FL most of my life but being an Army Brat I have also lived all over God's Green Acre - the best is still FL - I always manage to come "home" every time I leave.

And ya know......we do have A/C, don't really have to be in the heat much unless you choose to work outside.

I agree, there's always something you can complain about, we're all talking about how hot it is in August and September... but NOW? Hey kid, have you noticed the weather is PERFECT right now? That's why Florida. I was sprawled out on my beach towel today and you coulda kicked me and I wouldn't have moved! Well, no you can't kick me BUT it was so beautiful out, and very nice and relaxing, THAT's why Florida, THIS time of year. Summers are not easy, I agree. It's hot and the A/C costs a lot and you don't want to be outside, even at night, it's the cross we must bear to live here year-round.. then we come full circle back to the hurricanes, all at the same time. But RIGHT NOW is WHY.

Summers are very, very hot, however no matter what state you live in, there will be the great things and not so great. Out of the 12 months in the year, only 3 to 4 months are really hot, that means more than half the year is beautiful! That is good odds!!

Last night I watched the shuttle from my driveway. What an awesome sight. Evening and nighttime launches are my favorite. I live about 45 miles south of KSC, so it actually takes about 3 minutes for the sound of the roar from lift off to reach my house. I always find that fascinating. Not too places in the U.S. (or world) you can live, walk out side your door and watch a shuttle launch.

....and don't forget about the cute little lizards....

Why Florida? Simple, for me. It's the closest thing I know to home. Born and raised in a military family, spent most of my growing up years globetrotting to wherever the Navy sent my dad. He retired here to Pensacola while I was in high school. Being so accustomed to moving every few years, I still had itchy feet, so at 20, I packed up and moved to Macon, GA, a landlocked area! Got married, got divorced, didn't know where to go from there, so I headed back to the beach...and to the realization that this IS home, and I'm finally in a place where I have (and love having) roots. No real winter, no problem...I'll never complain that I can wear shorts and flip flops year round!

Loved reading all of the previous posts, I'm normally a forum lurker, but finally felt compelled to throw in some words of my own-

Ranae: WELCOME!!! So glad to have you as a POSTER and not a 'lurker'!

There is just SOMETHING about Florida that has a calming, peaceful affect on me! It has always been that way. In years past when I would drive back 'home', as SOON as I saw the sun sparkling on the water it was as though ALL the weight on my shoulders was lifted!

I have been fortunate to have been born and raised on the coast, so water has really been the major attraction! I have travelled to 'central' Florida however, and I feel like I am in New Jersey!!!!

SO - in my case - it is MORE about the 'coast' then it is the actual 'state' of Florida.

I'm the same way Leslie. When I first moved here we weren't far from the ocean so now I feel like I have to be near the water. Even way-out-west Boca feels too far west to me. Even though there're times when months go by and I never go to the beach or see the water, I like knowing it's there! Boca is different from Tampa that way, what I liked about Tampa was I saw water everywhere just driving around - not so here, but I'm partial to the east coast.

DITTO: Welcome, hope you are "compelled" to add more post.

Leslie and Hallie , I have only lived in Vero Beach, and now Palm Bay. I have visted alot of other areas that I enjoyed, however the coast is my favorite. I'm partial to the east coast only because I have family here.

Oh yuck! I moved down from just north of Syracuse in 2007. It took me 3 hours to make a 45 minute drive from work due to the heavy lake effect snow and 45 mph winds. I was stranded along the way and called my brother who lives in Palm Bay Fl. I asked him what he was doing. He said he had just finished mowing the lawn and he was getting ready to BBQ. I told him where I was and he said, "Sucks to be you." Well, that was it. I was in the beginning of a divorce and decided that I wasn't starting over in a place where hell had frozen over.

I absolutely love it here. I love the flowers, the beach, the manatees and dolphins and sea turtle's. I like all the things to do outside that get you off the couch. I like being able to stay in shape instead of being in a cocoon for 9 months. I like no heat bills,no snow tires, no winter clothes, no ice storms, and fewer cranky people.

I'm never leaving unless a storm blows me away, I move further south because as Jimmy Buffett says, The lower the latitude- the better the attitude- or I die.

Do you think I can get a job for the tourism department?

OOHH Yeah- the last great shuttle launch I saw was a mile from my front door standing on the beach just after sunset. The sun lighting up the shuttle, the smoke trails and the rocket boosters was beautiful. You can't see that just anywhere!

Did I say "I love Florida!" yet????

Yes and those lizards are adorable.

I love those mama turtles struggling up to lay their eggs on the beach and those big ole friendly manatees that wouldn't hurt a flea. The abundance of beauty and wildlife here is amazing- and most of it is free. There are always festivals going on to go to and lots and lots of music by the water and beautiful sunsets!

How I got here is kind of a coincidence.
I was born and raised in Lima Ohio and graduted in 1971 too Hallie. I have lived in other Ohio towns such as Ada< Findlay Columbus and Sandusky. home of Cedar Point Amusement Park/
In about 1999 an ex manager I had worked with was visiting from Florida and happened to go the the restrooms where I was working as a rr host. Actually cleaning the rr more like it. Anyway he was living here in Clearwater and asked him about another friend. So i wrote to him and about 3 yrs later became unemployed and headed south. I have been here since 2002 and love the weather. Its hot everywhere in the summer but nice not having to shovel snow. Rex

My life looks like a family circle cartoon, following the path of one of the children.

WA, to SD, to CA, to Japan (started school), to FL, to CA (again), to Germany (graduated), to AR(married), to MO, to TN, to AR(again), to TN(again), to MS, to LA, to AL, to, to FL (again and got divorced). During all this time there were many moves within the different states, totaling over 30 moves.

Why Florida, because I love living here. I love the weather. If I want ice, it is in the freezer, for snow, turn on the weather channel.

A year round playground.

Yes Magic, there are some awesome POF's that live here as well. Although I am very disappointed in some unpleasant behavior at the moment. I still believe that the goodness will shine through in the end.

Florida is a great place to finally call home. I am so glad to be where I am today.

In my case I was stuck in a rut back home but didn't realize it -- until I was offered the opportunity to relocate to Florida in 1982. I still miss my family and the northern climate and trees (in Summer), but I did accomplish all of the goals I had set out to do here. I always go back for a summer trip, and bring back stocks of junk food from up north, so it's all good!
Besides, as I always tell others, I don't have to shovel sunshine!

No, but you do can it, right?
I remember going to those novelty stores and seeing canned Florida sunshine.
