Should I expect a thank you after paying for the meal, etc.?

Heck...I've had some awful dates in my life. And as bad as they were I always thanked them for coming. And I paid for drinks and dinner sometimes. (I HATE meeting for dinner) Anyway, yes. A simple thank you costs the other person nothing.

What has happened tp people?? Why has the simplest thing as saying "Thank You" after someone does something nice for you, like buying a drink or a meal become such a problem? Some people are seriously fvcked up.
