Of all the single minded people I have met in my short existence, I would have to say that religious types are the biggest percentile. I think evolution is far more plausible than that of a 'hand of God' who creates a ball of rock 6000 years ago and magically paints it in 6 days, creating people who live to be 900 years old. I love the bible stories that mention Cain and Abel going to far off lands and taking wives. God created Adam and Eve, who were these other people?? But then again, I only know what I know, but I know that I may learn something different tomorrow.

i do hope that this marketing stroke of genius causes people to strive for a greater understanding of themselves and the world around them.

Religion is for those who are scared to go to hell.........

Spirituality is for those who have been to hell and DONT want to go back........

GOD is just a word......that people can Identify with...........Call him whatever you want........it is all in what you believe.....

I know a guy who said he believed in something.....and it kept him sane and he prayed to it.........I asked him what it was.......and he said Kuma sutra.....I frickin died laughing and he was serious.......he thought that was a god that suited him.......he didnt realize what it was.........worked though.

hmm ason , have you even read this bible you speak of? i wonder if your as schooled on evolution as you are on the bible, if so that would explain you marvelling at these advertising geniuses;

i dont recall exactly where it said abel got married or travelled to a far off land with his brother, where exactly was that ? hmm maybe one of the other evolution guys knows where it is
however thanks for the laugh lol

Of all the single minded people I have met in my short existence, I would have to say that religious types are the biggest

coming from someone who tells a story based upon assumptions and guesses isnt at all single minded is it. especially when his story is completely wrong and not even vaguely accurate
cmon dude its like genesis , take 15 minutes and at least read it
maybe then youll find out cain killed abel long before he could get married or go on a tour of the earth with his brother cain, or find these mystical brides of whom you speak lol.
its like the plot of mid genesis
the bible isnt a religious book ,its a book
you dont have to be afraid to read it , you wont turn into a reborn xtian if you do, most of them christians havent read the book anyways, they just do what the preachers tell them to. and believe what he tells them the bible says.
heck even the preachers only read the bible in verses and leave out the stuff they dont feel is relevant

religion is for people who arent capable of understanding whats written in a simple book
spirituality is just an ex religious person who is fed up with religion

god is not just a word.god is a title get the facts right
god is a title like king or duke or lord

I've read the bible many times over. I remember winning sunday school prizes for memorizing scriptures, but after 8 just never followed through with it. This whole thread up until crazee has been about Religion ie the Churches, therefore the arguments have been pretty heated. Yet I think if this conversation was more about Spiritualty, ala trubbles and crazee's last post, then probably most people on all sides could find something to agree on. In the end, I think it's organized religion that spurs on the atheists to attack using ads, and honestly, looking at history, who can blame them?

and trubble, you are right - my cain and abel was incorrect. I said I would learn something new today....

and trubble, please respect the titles you so claim to respect by providing them the proper capitalzation. I, heathen I may be, even understand the intricacies of titles and will always spell God the correct way.

so can we all agree - The bible is a work of fiction, Jesus Christ was a plagiarized from years of historical figures and starred in his own musical(superstar) and then movie(mel gibson) and that, maybe just maybe, there is something else out there beyond our mortal comprehension?

I really hope it's Kuma Sutra!

As does Mel Gibson. Show some reverence!

"Short existence" may be key. I know I'll never know everything and I'm open minded enough to know I have learned much from both religious types and non-religious types.

You read the Bible several times over? Really? I know of someone (okay, Trubble) who has read it from cover to cover and it took him, I think he said 2 years. (I thought he must have been incarcerated but that wasn't the case LOL)

I think it's difficult enough to read the Bible in its entirety once, let alone several times over.

Two friggin' years to read a compendium of middle east fairy tales? Yer kiddin' right?

I have read a 8 volume set of bible concordances in about a 5 month period. It was based on the KJV, and I had the NIV version to try and understand some of the archaic language.

Yes, I have read the bible at least once, and some parts multiple times.

I still don't get how people get their knickers in a knot about the belief that some cosmic Jewish Zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepahtically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

Sounds believable to you?

I wasn't particularly worried to begin with.
