| Would you donate an organ? Posted: 8/22/2009 2:43:28 PM | After I've died and no longer need them, they can take and use whatever they want.
When I'm still alive and full of life, it depends on the organ and who the recipient is. If I had kids then the answer is a resounding yes. If it was a stranger, I dunno. Bone marrow, part of a liver..sure. But what if you donate a kidney and three years later your remaining kidney fails. Or what if your kids need one, and you are a match, but since you donated one already.....

As well as that signature to donate please make sure that you discuss your wishes with your families. I work in a hospital that does transplants and, although the donor card is signed, it ultimately comes down to the wishes of your family. Yes they CAN overrule your offer to donate. Many times organs are lost because the families deny this final wish.
And just FYI - Canada and the US are rated among the lowest percentage for organ donation.

| Would you donate an organ? Posted: 8/23/2009 4:34:10 PM | | my dad is alive today because someone took the time to sign their donor card. He needed a Liver and it saved his life. I have signed my card since i have been old enough to do so. If alive or dead i could help some one I love in that way I would. I tried to help my dad but they wouldn't even have me tested, the hospital would not let me as I have a young child and it would not be benificial to him if something went wrong. To lose his mother and grandfather. | |
