It may make Markus richer, however, so maybe it's not going to be a business mistake from his perspective. Maybe PoF is strapped for cash and needs to do this. I don't like the way this has come about so quickly, but the Big Fish can do what he likes - though I think Markus should change the "100% free. Put away your credit card" blurb at the top of the page now. I seem to recall an April fools joke about introducing fees last year. That was pretty funny I recall. This latest change is less so, not that I really care, as it doesn't affect me personally. It's the principle though, innit?

I just hope paying members don't go to the PoF refund counter willy-nilly for a defective unit.
Actually, reading all these posts make us sound like a bunch of girls at the salon (not that I go there...just imagined it)....while getting pedicured/manicured and with curlers on....bitching about boyfriends and stuff. | |

Posted: 3/9/2009 9:06:58 PM | Have you noticed lately, well since about May last year, that a lot of the guys on some paid for dating sites, have their nicknames that reflect their jobs? There was a guy had as his nick name Iownabobcat. Now it was brought to my attention by an accountant, that if you belong to a paid=up site and registered your nickname as something to do with your business, that gives you the opportunity to use your subscriptions as another tax deduction. I noticed that since about the Middle of January, some of the members joining this site have done the same.
When you pay by creditcard, among the information that is listed on that .....is ....The name as it appears on your credit card statement..... so if you use your business card/creditcard its an indication that you are genuine. You know how hard it is to get a bank account with a credit card attached? 100 points includes a passport, which identifies you or a birth certificate. etc etc..
Thats how the different sites find the genuine people, though their credit card payments, even if its for a business....
we are in a recession, and every tax saving is a saving of someones insanity even if its only our accountants.
I dont have acredit card nor do I intend getting one.  | |

Hurrumph . . . I have the same problem.
One of them is Mercurial and another is Steel . . and a bit rusty at that. I guess I should be thankful there aren't any Lead ones.
But here's a few snippets from Admin's' thread advising of the Gold (Serious) Member option:

This site will never go 100% paid or restrict the free users, there is no future in that. The primary purpose of this feature is to get all the users who are currently on paid sites and think paid site users are higher quality and more serious. It would by nice to reduce the income of paid sites by several hundred million dollars a year.
In other words . . does my bum look big in this Lamborghini?
Forum users for the most part aren't serious daters, they don't send as many messages, they are far more picky, don't respond etc. The average dater stays 5 months average forum user is 3+ years.
That explains all those 'Why don't they respond' threads, at least.
People who want "serious member upgrade" are people with little time and have a pretty clear idea of what they want. That basically leaves out all forum users. But i'm amazed that 7% of forum users would pay.. that is a very high number.
Soooo . . who's going to be first in that 7% Forumites category then?
