| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/10/2009 9:55:51 PM | It would make no sense to go totally paid, or even restrict users to paying to read messages etc.
The goal is to get as many users as possible. This upgrade appeals to all those people who think you have to pay for something to get value out of it. After putting up this upgrade female signups world wide have gone up! We now appeal to more users.

| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/10/2009 10:11:13 PM | Thanks Markus, So ladies are prepared to Upgrade for a nominal fee, but the guys won' t. So without spending another dime, the more serious males on POF have a specific target group. You knew that all along didn't you Markus. Damn clever. | |

And the only thing that helps unatractive people find love is beer I find it fascinating that people post comments like this. Clearly they are of the opinion that they, themselves, do not fall within the group they're maligining.
female signups world wide have gone up Well, I suppose there's some parts of the world where six bucks a month sounds like a fortune. Good luck with those chicks, guys!

| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 9:28:23 AM | So Markus has become a "Serious Member" that about says it all, he is "NOT SINGLE/NOT LOOKING" yet he is a serious member, serious about what ?????
Is this a dating site for meeting someone to date or a site where you can look important with a gold badge, why would someone pay NOT to find someone ??

| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 9:41:47 AM | all this talk of serious members,.......... ~shakes head,... gotta get my mind outta the gutter~ I will admit that I am not actively looking for anyone however, that said I am not opposed to the idea either. More of a " if you are interested in me great,...... but I am tired of getting nowhere " approach. | |
|
| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 12:35:57 PM | Ahhhhhhhhhhh General Fa Que...has a nice ring to it... I've always had a thing for a man in uniform....

|
| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 1:02:57 PM | hmmm... so much talk about less fortunate persons

| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 3:21:27 PM | Where are all these supposed members who are signing up for their gold stars! Can we only see them if we also sign up? Just curious here, not planning on getting a gold star myself.
Edit: Never mind, I just saw one......is he like the proverbial "needle in the haystack" Reminds me of the game we used to play when we were kids and the Volkswagon Beetle was new on the market "hey there's a Volksie, look there's another one". LOL Somehow I don't think that was Marcus' intention.

| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 3:52:25 PM | We need to remember that most users on POF aren't here for the forums, or the social aspect. They are looking for a partner. If a gold star, or a highlighted profile weeds out some of the "only here for friends", or "only here for forums", or "just looking around, not interested in a relationship"...etc then great. If people feel the need to distinguish themselves by the star, great. It hurts no one. It doesn't affect me, nor my account, so what do I care if they want to pay for a star? It is a marketing game. Nice move.
That being said, I clicked on the search "my city" and wow..there are quite a few 'stars'...lol..and that got me thinking..that, yes, I would look at those profiles first, being that is what I am interested in ideally. I thought about how many people I have talked to, that are only here "looking around"....or just want "friends". It makes sense to have an option to distinguish oneself if they so choose.
Will I get a star? Nope, I am too cheap...lol..unless Markus wants to give me one in hopes of getting rid of me off the site finally.
|
| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 4:12:09 PM | ^^^^but..... then would only certain categories of members be allowed Gold Stars? Like, how about people that are serious about finding intimate encounters? Do they get Stars? So........ other members might not find those members all that "serious"....
What the numbers appear to boil down to, according to the site stats of male members that have purchased the phony credential, receiving what, 9 times more views/initial contacts, is that women are extremely gullible based on a false perception?
Men will now flock to the site looking for ding-dongs. Clever marketing? LOL

| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 4:27:51 PM | I voted no but Marcus did it anyway. he also upgraded people for free who had Hang out, Intimate encounters go figure. | |
|
| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 4:31:53 PM | | Anyone has the option of "highlighting" their profile. It is a way of showing people that they are "serious" in finding what they are looking for..whatever that category might be. If someone wants to highlight their profile, for a fee, and just use the site for forums...so be it. If they want intimate encounters...so be it. Who cares? At least when a person comes across the profile, and sees the category, they know that it isn't someone likely to be just wasting their time...whatever the category might be. | |
|
| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 6:16:06 PM | Ok..Now it has gone from "whatever" to ridiculous...lmao...it seems none of the people I have talked to, that are highlighted, have paid for it? Makes the whole thing futile doesn't it?
Ah well..whatever...lol
|
| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 6:18:02 PM | "It is a marketing game. Nice move."
Yup, totally agree, as nice as it is, to get a gold badge as a serious menber, but at what price, thats right, at WHAT price.
Once again, a business strategy to MAKE MONEY, through the membership, US, ALL of US.
"Will I get a star? Nope."
I will gladly SECOND that one.
I am too cheap...lol.
Naaaa, it is not a matter of being too cheap, it is a matter of PRINCIPLE, that states right on the site itself of, "Put Your Card Card Away, Because, It IS A Totally And Completly Free Site". And if SO, For HOW LONG, Before We ALL Have To Start Paying?????????
"Unless Markus wants to give me one in hopes of getting rid of me off the site finally."
If he does that, then, I wonder how long it will be, before others follow suit.
The bottom line IS, HE NEEDS ALL of US, that will allow him, to promote his site as the biggest dating site.
That will in turn, allow him to promote his site to the big business world for selling advertising to major companies, such as Google, which are HUGE payers for advertising.
I have said it before, and will gladly say it again, it is ALL a business strategy, ALL a business strategy, and there is NO DENYING of it.

| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 7:51:37 PM | I thought the Admin did a good job talking about the upgrade further up. In fact, I would say he was professional, because a lot of insults are coming his way and he is not overly defensive.
However, you have to wonder about those people who think they have to pay to get something. We are in a "repression" now and I wonder if it is thinking like this that has led to people having maxed out credit cards, which they only can pay the minimum balance off on. It does not seem very smart to spend money on nothing. If you have money to waste, give it too charity.
I also wonder if some people are paying and some people are not if this creates some sort of divide in the fish tank. It is good to have more people in the pool and I suppose it is true that some people are more serious about finding someone else than others, only now the really serious people purchase gold stars to show they are serious.
I think some the gold star people like the seal of approval too, because it boosts their egos, which is really kind of sad when you think about it.

| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 8:32:28 PM | I need a boost of confidence ....My Mega Ego has been in hibernation all Winter. If I am going to compete with all these femme fish in the pond I am going to need help.

| Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade ? Posted: 3/11/2009 8:55:04 PM | | I think that Big Fish should do something RED. Yes, RED! A lot of merchants/services are involved in the RED campaign. Starbucks, for example, has a red card, so that a certan amount of the money you spend on coffee goes to Africa. If I was the Markedwhatever or the person called admin, I would become RED_GOLD meaning that I would donate a certain amount of the gold star's persons to charity. POF needs a cause. | |
