I'm a serious member.

I was seriously laughing my butt off when I glanced over into the NO EMAIL end of the pond to see it filling up with pretty yellow colored backgrounds.

I thought the idea was to double the amount of emails a serious member gets.

Yellow dots? You see yellow dots? You need help. There are no yellow dots. Only the dots you think you see. Time for a new doctor? New drugs? Okay, the yellow dots are spreading. Its good.

You clicked to get here
You can click to leave here

click click click and make it quick
'cause your whining in the forums makes me SICK!

Putting a yellow dot on your profile will not make a bit of difference. Also as someone previous stated, the young man who owns this site is pulling in 10 Million a year from the ads that are on this site. He's doing this from his apartment in Vancouver with only the help of two other people. Plentyoffish is very close to the most profitable dating site .

i understand the guy wants to make a little more money.... but baiting the site like that just seems like someone has gotten a lil too greedy.... if he REALLY makes 10 mil a year from ads, then this would NOT exist.....

And we know this how?

If in fact the site is pulling in big profits , why is the situation any different than oil companies reaping huge profits, for that matter sports teams? Capitalism applies to all, your pay and the individual that runs POF. Don't like it, you decide.

not saying i dont like it.... everyone deserves to make some money from time to time, this site, like all other dating sites out there, doesnt really serve its purpose as well as it claims.... its HARD to make a connection when the girls are scared to talk to the guys because they think we all want sex... and its gonna become even worse when we are all forced to pay, because if a GUY is gonna pay for a site like this, hes gonna EXPECT to score... im not speaking for us ALL dont get me wrong... but most generally 3 quarters of the single men out there are ONLY looking for sex. makes things hard on us ones that are looking to try to win someones heart.

Perhaps this thread is for naught as I have noticed the number of dots has leveled off. We have nothing to fear but fear itself, and the yellow dots.

I have this question for fish that are fearful of the yellow dots. What have you done recently to improve your profile ? Have you experienced happiness here on POF?

Think about it? Will an upgrade help you? Maybe?

Here are some hard cold facts about PoF.

There is this one guy named Marcus. He's just a guy. He worked and gambled hard to make this site what it is. This site isn't run by a corporate "THEM". Marcus is just trying to keep this thing alive using the least invasive economic model he can apply.

"Serious Member" is one part of that model. Advertising is the other. I have a "Serious Member" account so I don't have to look a thousands of advertisements. I value my time and mind enough to spare myself from that. The account costs me 20 cents a day. I think that may be cheaper than oxygen. If you like free, good for you, but that doesn't make PoF or Marcus an evil corporate overlord. He's just a dude!

Question is has your present situation, lacking the yellow dot helped you? Really not a large price to pay if by chance you find happiness?

Exactly! Do some basic math. If you made minimum wage (I suspect most of us here make 3 -5 times that), you are talking about 20 cents a day. That is like 90 seconds of your time in a day to to pay for:

A: Not having to deal with advertisements.
B: Showing that you are not anonymous to the people who run the site (accountability).
C: Having more people contact you.

I do infact get more people contacting me because there are way more men on this site than women and the fact my listing appears on the first or second page of any search result is a HUGE advantage over other guys who are on something like page 55.

I like my dot like Stalin liked his statues.

Hope that helps :)

Maybe it's just me.... but Supercalifragilisticexpia seems more like a planted ad than a real person posting. He comes into the Ohio forums (when he's from Canada) and sounds like a walking testimonial for this product. It's hard to take him seriously as an honest member when he's actually making a full blown sales pitch. He says he owns an internet business in Canada and it really makes me wonder if it isn't this one.

Guess again... maybe 10 years back....

What is Minimum Wage in Canada anyway?

Like a Shill? I would suspect a moderator, as this site does originate out of Canada. Kudos for them keeping this a freebee for so long, but then again it's their sandbox, & they are free to do as they wish.... look how Pay TV took off, & you are NOW paying to watch ads there, is this any different?

How about all the folks that post a testimonial ? Is that not being a shill? Again, you don't want it, your too cheap, too bad!

i dunno... me personally... ive paid for dating sites before and got ZERO return on my money.... im already getting exactly what i pay for from this site (NOTHING). why pay when the end result is the same? sure they match you up and what not... but they cant MAKE the girls talk to you.... they cant MAKE them email you...

Quite frankly, knowing they seeded the site and gave away a lot of free memberships, I don't see the women with the dot, as any more serious than the rest.

Honestly, I've met a lot of very cool people on this site. I think it's less the site and more what you make of it that counts. I do not have a serious member gold dot. However, I've gone to some of the social functions hosted by regular people and I've made some friends along the way. At the very least, I've made contacts through whom I can network. That's much more than I've gotten from any of the other sites where I've had to pay to find people.

Now there is a thought that might be applied to life in general. Just imagine if people went out each and everyday intending to have a good day?

Are you saying that you don't do that? I know my friends and I always do... every day has the potential to be a good day and when it isn't we make it into one.
